Is it half way through the
season already? Time flies when you are having fun,
I guess and these previews are a blast to cover.
Predicting the NFL is pretty tough to do as was
evidenced last weekend by the Bucs getting beat
by the hometown 49ers and the Rams, missing all
their weapons. beating the Jags. No difference to
fantasy players, all that mattered was you started
Taylor, Jackson, Galloway and Barlow making sure
that Caddy and all 49er WR were resting comfortably
on the bench. I will try and fill you in on all
my fantasy gems this week even though my best players
are all on byes or injured. Bad drafting I suppose
but good players are good players right? Enough
with the analysis let’s hit the previews…
Bengals: Palmer
is all grown up and makes smart decisions
to help his team win. Chad has a sore shoulder
but should be good for 100+TD against the
physical Ravens D. Housh has picked up his
game and should grab 80 and a score. Rudi
has been very solid and looks to be more
a part of the offense, this week he goes
for 80 and Perry adds another 60 total yards.
The surprising Bengal D should have a great
day against the anemic Raven offense and
create plenty of turnovers. The D needs
to be much better against the run or this
game will be close.
Ravens:
Billick has to be happy with how close his
Ravens kept the game last week but it was
still a loss. Wright played OK but has to
improve if the Ravens are going to compete.
Mason has come on of late and expect 80
yards but the focus of the Ravens attack
should be with Lewis who will have his first
100 yard game and score. Taylor may also
be near 100 yards and Heap should go for
60 and maybe a TD. The defense will have
its hands full with the explosive Bengals
but defense is not the problem in Baltimore.
Can Boller even help?
Browns: This
game may be the one where we see Charlie Frye
take over for Dilfer after losing to Houston
last week. Droughns has played well the past
two weeks and should be able to generate 120
yards total offense and a TD no matter who
plays QB. Bryant has been the main man and
should continue this week with a 100 yard
effort and a TD against young DB’s.
Edwards will start to be more of an offensive
threat this season as the Browns look to next
year and expect 80 yards from the rookie while
Northcutt adds another 60. The Browns D has
been solid but will be tested in the secondary
by McNair and need to improve against the
run.
Titans: McNair
will look to his young WR’s to make
an impact and go deep often against the Browns
Db’s to Roydell Williams who could have
a 100 yard game. Brown will get the majority
of carries and could explode for 100+TD against
soft run D while Henry works his way back
into shape off of a suspension for 50. Troupe
is hurting so expect Kinney to see 80 yards
and a TD. The Titans D will look to pressure
the Browns QB and force turnovers and create
sacks like they have done all year to keep
them in the game and this game will go to
the wire.
Texans: Carr
played much better last week and may have
Johnson back this week. The offense sure needs
their big play star receiver, even at 80%
and he should get a few looks from Carr for
80 yards. His presence should mean Gaffney
and Moses could roll up 100 yards between
them and Davis may have a little more room
to gain 120 total yards and a TD. The Texans
are playing pretty well defensively but need
to be better against the run. If the offense
can improve the Texans can be competitive
and could make a late run for Capers to save
his job.
Jaguars: Taylor
had a monster game last week and you can expect
another good outing for 120 total yards and
a TD as he quietly puts together a pretty
good season. Leftwich has been efficient but
will need to be better at getting Smith involved.
Smith should grab 80 and a TD while Matt Jones
should grab 80 yards and a TD stretching the
young Texans D. Wilford could get involved
opposite Smith but moderate gains. Jags D
was ripped last week by the Rams but will
stiffen against the run this week and the
Texans don’t have the downfield passing
attack of the Rams so expect a decent outing
by the Jags D. A safe start.
Raiders: “Best
1-4 team in the league” has become a
contender in the tight AFC West at 3-4. Collins
has played well without Moss and has found
ways to get the offense moving, on the legs
of Jordan. Smart move by Turner to involve
him a little more and expect another good
game with 120 total yards and 2 TD’s.
Moss has been hurting but should explode in
this key match up for 120 +TD. Porter was
found and could have 80 while Gabriel grabs
a bomb for a TD. The defense has played much
better stopping the run and defending the
pass even with out Woodson and Gibson. This
game will be a shootout
Chiefs: Green
found his game last week but he’ll need
to put together another big game through the
air if the Chiefs are going to win this one.
LJ looks to carry the load this week and should
have 80 and a TD while Kennison should put
together a solid 100 yards and score. Gonzo
showed up finally in the right way on stat
sheets and expect more of the same this week
as all world TE gains 100+TD. The defense
will have its hands full with the balanced
attack of the Raiders but KC may have the
make up to get to Collins and force the mistakes
I have been expecting from him for 8 weeks
now. It will still be a shootout.
Falcons: The
DVD attack is back to full throttle this week
as Duckett returns from an ankle injury. The
Falcon rushing attack didn’t seem to
miss a beat with Dunn carrying the load and
that continues for 120 total yards. Duckett
should score on a short run and rack up 40
in his return while Vick runs for almost as
many yards as he passes for but should find
Crumpler for 60 and a score. The Falcons D
should be a solid play this week against the
‘Phins but will need to improve the
rush D against a good running game or this
game is closer than expected.
Dolphins: Frerotte
needs to start making more plays or he could
find himself benched. Chambers will face a
tough match up this week but should grab 80
yards and score while McMichael rips the middle
for 80 yards. Brown should have decent numbers
and Williams is improving so the ‘Phins
should roll up 150 on the ground and help
control the clock. The Miami defense plays
the run well and could force Vick into mistakes
when he tries to open up the passing game.
If the D can pressure Vick and get timely
stops the ‘Phins Could upset at home
Chargers:
Tomlinson could have another tough outing
against a solid Jets D but still go for 120
total yards and a TD. Brees should find Gates
easily though he will be limited by the athletic
Jets LB’s to 80 and a score. McCardell
will have a tough match-up against Law so
60 yards would be a decent outing. Think Caldwell
has something to prove after 2 costly fumbles
trying to make plays but the effort has to
be admired and I think he may snag 8/100 replacing
Parker. The D will stuff the run but no matter
who QB’s the pass defense has to be
better because they have been ripped through
the air. Pressuring Vinny may offset that
pass attack.
Jets: Vinny
or Brooks? Vinny starts and the Jets have
a real shot at ripping the Bolts D but Bollinger
seems to get the playbook with five pages.
Martin will have a tough day but will slug
it out for 100 yards anyway and will score.
Coles could be huge for Vinny today and expect
120+TD out of Coles who will look to finish
the season strong. Justin could be a deep
threat as the Chargers pass D is not very
good and he could have 100 yards as well.
The D will focus on stuffing LT and leave
the Law to look after one WR and have some
deep help. The D-line should get after Brees
when he drops back and could cause a few turnovers.
Panthers: Jake
has found Smith every week, Smith will have
more difficulty against good TB tacklers and
CB’s but should still be good for 120
and a TD. Davis could score on a short one
but the damage rushing will be done by Foster,
80 total yds, against fast TB LB’s.
Gardner or Colbert need to step up on the
other side to distract the deep safeties or
take advantage of double coverage on Smith.
Panthers D must stop the TB ground game and
pressure Simms following the 49ers game plan
and have a good chance of going home 6-2
Buccaneers:
Simms did not play badly last week but he
will have to play better as will Cadillac
and Pittman. Cadillac should be able to break
loose for a few runs and gain 80 yards and
a score if healthy and expect Pittman to pick
up the slack catching passes out of the backfield
easing the Panther pass rush. Galloway has
been a monster and should find success to
the tune of 100+TD. Bucs D will have their
hands full with Jake but may be able to force
turnovers from the erratic QB and should be
able to apply pressure and stuff the Cats
run game.
