The last group of teams are
on the bye week and for us fantasy players they
include some of the top players in the game such
as LT, Brees, Gates, Palmer and CJohnson just to
mention a few. So any of us, yeah me included, that
depend on these studs to fill a spot in the lineup
on a weekly basis scramble for a replacement, when
we know there is no way to replace their production.
Anyway week nine was an interesting show with trends
starting to become clear on which teams and players
are going to remain on top and which are destined
to flop. Final week with a paltry 14 games and I
can’t wait until we are back to the full 16
game slate, but for now here are how the 14 contests
play out this week. The previews are next…
Chiefs:
Big blow losing Holmes for the season but
this is the opportunity Larry Johnson has
been waiting for since his draft day and
expect him to make the most of it against
Buffalo’s league worst run D going
for 100+ and a couple TD’s. Green
played well last week but the Bills secondary
is much better than last weeks opponents
so Kennison and the Chiefs WR’s could
be held to mediocre games around 60 yards.
Gonzo should be huge as the Bills will be
focused on stopping the run so expect 100
yards and a score for the all world TE.
The defense will try and stuff MacGahee
but will be conscious of the passing game
with Holcomb slinging it around. This defense
was expected to be improved and must start
to produce or the Chiefs playoff hopes will
fade down the stretch
Bills: MacGahee
can’t do it all and the coaching staff
at Buffalo should open up the playbook a
little and force teams to respect a passing
attack that has been almost non-existent
this year. It is a testament to how good
MacGahee is that the Bills have any wins
at all this year and he should continue
his success against the Chiefs rolling up
120+ a TD or two. Moulds should go for 100
and a TD but this offense needs Evans to
be a factor in the offense if they want
to challenge for the division and expect
a breakout with a couple deep balls. The
defense must improve against the run and
find some way to stop the opponents in short
yardage because the offense is not scoring
enough points to win consistently. The pass
D is excellent and can build on that confidence.
San Francisco vs Chicago
- Week 10 Fantasy Preview
Bears: Orton
had a big game last week and proved he can
lead this team to victory and a division title.
This week is another challenge against a 49ers
team that plays solid defense and the Bears
could be without Thomas Jones who is nursing
some injuries. Benson could get the start
and he will be eager to prove to the Bears
he is more than worthy of their 1st round
pick by gaining 80 yards and a score in his
first start. Muhammed should also have a decent
outing and go for 100 and a TD against a weak
secondary. The Bears D is a must start every
week and especially against a diminished offense
struggling with young QB’s but must
be ready to stuff Barlow and the 9ers running
game. The defense should score points this
week with sacks and turnovers while limiting
the 9ers scoring.
49ers: Pickett will likely
start his second consecutive game and against
a menacing Bears defense look for the Niners
to run the ball often to Barlow who has picked
up his game of late. Barlow will see the lions
share of the work and gain near 100 yards
and score while Gore will spell him and change
the pace for another 50. The running game
may alleviate some of the Bears pass rush
and Pickett may be able to find Battle and
Lloyd a couple times each in this game but
don’t expect more than 60 yards from
either although both WR’s do have the
ability to break tackles and make big plays.
This game will be decided by the Niners defense
which has played extremely well this season
despite a huge loos to Washington. The D will
make running difficult and apply pressure
on Orton hoping to force mistakes from the
young Bears QB and the outcome of the game
will depend on the Niners ability to force
mistakes and take advantage.
Cardinals:
Warner threw for 300 yards last week in a
losing effort and expect another big game
for the Cards QB. The running game is awful
but look for Arrington to start taking more
reps as the season goes on and should tally
80 total yards this week as Shipp goes for
60 total yards. Fitzgerald is a phenomenal
talent at WR and will have 100 plus yards
and at least one score this week with Bryant
Johnson likely to miss the game with a bum
shoulder. The Cards need to spread the offense
out more because they really miss Boldin’s
big play ability on the other side. The Cards
D is going to miss DE Berry on the pass rush
but the defense can play better than they
have if they do they can surprise DET and
finish with a flourish
Lions: Harrington
isn’t the reason the Lions are brutal
offensively. He can do more to help his team
win but the Lions need much better play from
the O-line to get Kevin Jones some holes and
Joey some time. The upside is Joey’s
2 starting WR’s are back from ailments
and suspension and Williams should be back
with a solid 8/100 and a score effort while
Rogers contributes 80. Jones should get a
break in a weak Cards run D so expect 80 and
a score. The defense will have its hands full
with the pass happy Cards and will give up
plays missing some key players in the secondary.
This game will be higher scoring than people
think and Detroit needs this home “W”
Texans: Carr
breathes a sigh of relief having his stud
WR back. Look for him to try and get the ball
to Johnson another ten times this game and
explode for 120+ and at least one score. The
RB Wells or Davis, will move the ball on the
ground and should roll up 100 yards + score
if the Texans don’t give up on the running
game. Gaffney should have a nice game on the
other side rolling up 80 in a support role
and Bradford could haul in a few deep ones
against the aggressive Indy D. This game looks
like a rout on paper but expect the Texans
to play their best game of season and keep
it close. The defense has improved with the
return of DL Walker and should be able to
contain Edge and the Texans have 3 very good
CB’s that will create problems for Manning
and the Colts.
Colts: Manning
and his crew won a big emotional game last
week and now face an inferior opponent so
a letdown can be expected. Edge has to be
the stud he has been all year and should roll
through the Texan D for 100 and 2 scores this
week as Indy tries to control the game and
dominate the clock. Harrison will grab his
6/85 and a score while Wayne and Stokely will
add 60 each. Clark could exploit the LB’s
and have a better game this week and score.
The defense has been terrific in stopping
opponents but more than that they force opponents
into mistakes and take advantage of them.
They stopped a potent offense last week and
face a very shaky offensive line this week
so expect huge numbers from the Colts D with
turnovers and sacks piling up
Baltimore vs Jacksonville
- Week 10 Fantasy Preview
Ravens: Thank
goodness for Kyle Boller. Don’t expect
an explosion but he does give the Ravens a
passing arm teams will respect at least. Mason
should start to produce more but not against
Mathis this week, expect 80 yards in bail
out throws. Heap will get the big plays and
probably score but that should open up more
running lanes for Lewis who has been a focal
point for opposing defenses to this point
and should start to roll this week with 80
yards. The Ravens D has started to be more
consistent and will get healthier as the season
moves along. The Ravens have the D to stop
Jacksonville so if the offense can put up
a few points the Ravens are poised to start
a run.
Jaguars: Leftwich
has been OK but he needs to be great if the
Jags want to be playing into January. Greg
Jones should start and could roll up 60 or
more with a score on the ground but the key
will be Byron’s ability to get the ball
downfield and exploit match ups. Smith should
grab 7/90 and a score but Wilford has improved
and look for a big game with 100 yards. Jones
is a nightmare to match up but the Jags haven’t
used him much. The D has been very solid and
gives the offense a chance to win every game.
The Ravens offense doesn’t pose a huge
threat but Boller’s return could mean
the Jags have huge potential to create turnovers
and stuff an anemic offense.
Pats: Brady
and his boys will be a little mad after last
week’s annihilation at the hands of
the rival Colts but bet Belichcik wont let
his team be distracted by the loss. They will
be focused on their division but without Dillon
it is anyone’s guess who will step in
and run the ball for NE. Brady will have a
monster game as will Branch, Givens and both
TE’s. Branch and Graham will receive
TD’s while Watson and BJohnson will
stretch the field on some deep balls. The
defense will look for redemption with a better
result for their effort this week. They played
well last week but Indy’s offense was
just too much for their decimated defense
to overcome. Frerotte is not Manning so look
for NE to stack the line and stuff the run
and put pressure on the Fins QB exposing their
secondary but making plays in the backfield.
Dolphins:
Ronnie Brown has been impressive over the
past few weeks and I look for the trend to
continue with another 100 yard game and a
score while Ricky rambles for another 60 yards
and a score. The Fins will try to win with
the ground attack and limit mistakes from
the QB position but with the Pats injury depleted
secondary it will be hard to resist throwing
to WR Chambers who should have 80 yards and
score. The Fins D will not have to worry about
the run much and will pin back their ears
and rush Brady trying to force turnovers with
superstar Taylor from the outside. This game
will go back and forth with big plays and
the Fins can jump into first with a win so
expect them to be motivated and firing on
all cylinders.
Minnesota vs New York
Giants - Week 10 Fantasy Preview
Giants: Surprise
team of the first half has got to be the Gmen
and young QB Eli Manning but the real star
of this team has been Tiki Barber who has
been spectacular. He should be great again
this week against the Vikes brutal run D and
rool for 100+TD and maybe more. Plaxico Burress
has been up and down but is the favored WR
so expect an 80 yard performance and maybe
a TD grab. Shockey has been an offensive star
this year and he should gain 80 and probably
score when the Vikes LB’s get burnt
on play action. The defense has been opportunistic
and able to hold opponents scoring down by
creating turnovers and getting pressure on
the opposing QB’s. They should dominate
the Vikes offense and stuff the run but may
allow big plays passing.
Vikings: Brad
Johnson comes in a bad situation but the savvy
vet will make the most of his opportunity
and should exploit the Gmen through the air
in the Dome. Expect Williamson to have a big
game and get deep a couple of times and go
for 120 and a TD. Taylor and Burleson should
also have good games and be around the 7/90
mark each. Bennett and Moore will split carries
and should produce decent results to the tune
of 120 between them and another 60 through
the air. This game will be a shootout because
the Vikes D is playing awful and lost CB Smoot
which won’t help any. The Vikes will
try to stuff Barber and the run game while
pressuring young Eli Manning and forcing him
into mistakes and generating sacks but may
give up big pass plays as a result.
