Well the pretenders are starting
to get weeded out and the contenders are starting
to display their dominance making for an exciting
second half of the season. When next week is over
we should have a good group of middle of the pack
teams fighting it out for wild cards and upper teams
fighting for division supremacy. I love the parity
in the NFL and how much desire plays a role in the
wins and losses each week. I think it is more than
any other sport and maybe why I am such a freak
about the NFL, those who want it most win. Isn’t
that close to ideal? Anyway I am waxing philosophical
about a game built on some physical dominance so
obviously rambling and I’ll get to the previews.
Make sure your lineups are set early boys and I
hit the previews next.
Browns: Dilfer
may get the hook if he can’t come
out and show some semblance of offensive
control in this game. Expect Droughns to
get the ball a lot and have a second 100
yard rush game and a TD this week. Bryant
will be the man and grab 80 and a TD but
it won’t be long before Braylon takes
over that status in Cleveland. He is a physical
specimen and will grab a TD and 60 yards
this week. Defense has bought into Crennel’s
system and plays tight but losing Baxter
for the season will open up the passing
D a b it to be exploited. If it wasn’t
the Texans this week they would be worried.
Texans:
9 passes? 6-9? I know their O-line is awful
but 9 passes. Is that like a give up game?
Expect more this week as Carr and Davis
will need to come up with a big win here
or a win could be tough to come by this
season. Carr should throw for 180 and a
TD but those numbers jump up if Andre can
recover and play. Davis will be the workhorse
like always and will go for 150 total yards
and a TD. Look for Bradford to get deep
on the CB this game for a long TD. The defense
needs to tackle better especially from the
safeties and CB’s because they can’t
seem to stop anyone and you can’t
expect teams to stop themselves all the
time
Vikings: The
Vikes came up huge last week but that was
home. They have been awful or worse on the
road so C-Pep had better bring his A game
and he needs help from his RB and WR’s.
Moore will have success on short passes and
should total 100 yards. Look for Williamson
to breakout with a big game this week and
go for 100+TD and Burleson to make key grabs
for 80 and a score. Wiggins could have a decent
game as an outlet for Daunte. The Vikes D
has been a huge disappointment and must turn
it around quickly or the Vikes will fail to
make a run. They need to be much better against
the run and not give up the deep plays.
Panthers:
Jake was knocked loopy but a bye week will
help get his senses. He could find Smith if
he was blind and had a broken arm though and
expect Smith to roll against a soft Vikes
D for 120 +2TDs. Coach Fox must see Davis
is sluggish and if the Cats are going to make
a run at the Bucs Foster has to be the feature
back soon. Davis is great in short yardage
and should get 60+TD but Foster, if healthy,
is a dual threat with has size and speed.
The defense needed the bye week to get healthy
and fix the secondary. Peppers has to begin
to play like a dominant force and the DB’s
must improve. This week they can dominate.
Cardinals:
McCown had a down week and will look to re-group
and find his dynamic duo often this week.
Boldin and Fitzgerald are both start-worthy
and should both gain close to 100 yards each
scoring a TD. The Cards will try and get a
running game going with Shipp and short passes
to Arrington to ease the pressure McCown will
feel. They may combine for 140 total offense
rushing and short passes. The defense will
try and pressure Bledsoe into mistakes taking
advantage of young LT/RT of the Cowboys and
Berry could be a difference maker. Pass D
has to be much better against WR’s and
TE or this game gets away quick
Cowboys: Heartbreaker
last week but the Cowboys will come out and
try to establish the run and go deep early.
RB by committee should tally 150 and a TD
this week but look for the damage to come
through the air. Glenn should have a big game
100+TD and Witten should exploit his match-up
for 80 and a score. Keyshawn is showing he
isn’t washed up by being a guy across
the middle and should have 80. Look for Price
to get involved on a deep bomb and score.
The defense has been great this season and
they will pressure MCown into mistakes. Cowboys
DST should rack up sacks and INT’s this
week and is a great play.
Bears: Division
supremacy is on the line in this battle and
it will be a close defensive battle. Orton
pulled out a win for the Bears last week with
the help of Thomas Jones who is having a monster
season. Cedric who? Jones should roll for
110 total yards and a TD this week against
a stiff Lions D. Mush should benefit from
Bly’s injury and snag 80 yards but the
rookie Bradley may have a similar stat but
start to show his YAC ability this week. Defense…are
you kidding me, this team is all about D and
they are good enough to be the reason Bears
win at all.
Detroit: Was
it me or did the Lions all play better for
Garcia? That is good but why quit on Joey?
Past issue and the offense looked OK with
rookie Williams, Vines and Johnson. Yeah ok,
Detroit needs a Roy in the lineup because
Kevin Jones is getting nothing. Either case
a WR in DET needs to step up and help Garcia
and Jones be more effective but if not Garcia
could be in trouble. Detroit’s D stepped
up last week and the Browns look like an NCAA
team. They are good enough to carry this team
against weaker offenses, welcome Orton and
the Bears.
Bengals: Well
the Bengals will have another opportunity
in a few weeks to knock off the Steelers but
can’t look past GB this week. Palmer
will pick apart the secondary and CJ should
have a monster game with a couple TD’s
and 120 yards. Young Henry should get more
time as Housh has hand problems. Rudi and
Perry could exploit the GB defense for 160
between them and a score by one RB. The pass
game will be effective and Palmer is a great
play this week. Defense will be pressing to
stop Favre with his limited options at WR
and RB. The Bengals have to shore up against
the run or GB and Farve will burn them on
both ends.
Packers: Playing
to not lose doesn’t suit Favre anyway
so expect the Pack to come out firing and
Fischer could have a great day against a vulnerable
Bengal front seven. Favre is a slinger and
he will find Driver and other WR Chatman and
Thurman as well as his TE’s Martin and
Lee. Driver, Martin and Thurman will score
as will Fischer who will also tally 110+ total
yards. The Bengal DB’s are good and
expect a few turnovers when WR’s don’t
make plays for Brett but GB ‘s playoff
hopes are slim and rest on Favre’s gun.
Defense will be hard pressed to stop the Bengals
offense but slowing them down to keep it close
favors the Packers QB in the 4th Quarter.
Miami: Saban
is right at home in LSU and the Dolphins have
a motivated Saints team coming to challenge.
Brown has improved each week and is the ball
carrier the Dolphins will rely on for 100+TD.
Ricky may find a little more room but don’t
expect much. Chambers is a force but may be
limited to 80 and a score going up against
CB McKenzie while Booker/McMichael catch more
of the action against young secondary. McMichael
should score and roll for 85. Miami is hurting
on D and will have to play to stuff the run
while covering the speedy and elusive Saints
WR’s and containing the improving Brooks.
This game could be high scoring.
Saints: Brooks
has played much better the past few weeks.
Along with Joe Horn’s return and the
first game in LA will make for an emotional
Saints team in a must win game. Smith should
get most of the carries and keep the Dolphins
pass rush at bay going for 80+ a short TD.
Horn will look to help the hurting Saints
WR’s and grab 8 for 80 and a TD while
Stallworth and Hakim make huge YAC’s
after catch against a vulnerable ‘Phins
secondary. Conwell matches up well with ‘Phins
LB’s and could grab a TD. The defense
will try to stuff the run and pressure Frerotte
into turnovers leaving Mackenzie locked on
Chambers and zone to cover deep.
Redskins:
We see some NFC East teams beat each other
up. This is a great match-up and Brunnell-Moss
is the hottest tandem in the league against
a suspect Giant pass D. Think 120 and a TD
for Moss and look for Portis to explode on
a couple runs and have 125 yards +TD after
a breakout game last week. Look for Cooley
to get 8 opportunities to make plays for the
‘Skins and go for 80 maybe a TD. The
defense is playing great but will be challenged
by the G-men and Eli. If they can get pressure
they should force mistakes from the young
QB
Giants: Eli
is on fire and was clutch in their win against
Denver last week. If he spreads the ball around
to Toomer and Shockey the Gmen can win a lot
of games. Plax may miss this week so expect
Toomer to grab 80 and a TD and Shockey to
continue to gain close to 100 and score. Tiki
may find running room scarce but should total
80 yards as a dual threat and Jacobs may bull
one in from short range. The defense will
need to play better in pass defense or this
game will get away but expect lots of pressure
on Brunell from the front 7.
