Every week we will provide a Blitz
Package, which is our way of giving an overview
of the weeks upcoming games and our expectations
in a quick hitting preview. We’ll run down
the match-ups and give our insights on offensive
and defensive components to help you be the most
informed fan on the planet…in less than a
minute. We’ll dig deep into the war chest
and review plans of attack and expose team secrets
that could prove to be the difference between winning
and losing.
Well the bye weeks have begun. I
think a few of the teams despite no one really ‘wanting’
the early break in scheduling will benefit from
the extra week of preparation. Harrington and Detroit
have to get some semblance of offense from their
talented trio of Williams, Rogers and Jones. Down
in Rita the Texans need to re-work offensive game
plans with the firing of Palmer and Carr needs to
heal his bruises and find some way to get the ball
to Johnson downfield. Ravens need a QB and Jamal
Lewis to wake up, if a 245lb RB can’t make
positive yards running behind Ogden no QB will save
this team. Gibbs probably would rather have his
team ride the HUGE win on Monday over arch-rival
Dallas, but 3 out of 4 ain’t bad.
Anyway week three starts to
separate the men from the boys in this league (see
my picks) and I am anxious to see what
pans out this week. Some trends are developing and
teams are surprising but I’ll ride it out
another week and see if the improbable is the ‘real
deal’ or a two week glimmer. Previews are
next:
Atlanta:
How is Vick’s hammy? Atlanta will
use double D running attack. Hey maybe we’ll
see Vick try his luck at throwing the ball.
Crumpler has a big game and a WR scores
finally but its Finneran. Falcon D is a
pressure the QB type which is prefect against
Losman but be wary the Willis who they contain
after getting ripped last week.
Buffalo:
Losman looked shaky last week but they still
have MacGahee and I expect the rook to have
games like that. Buffalo’s talented
WR’s are wasted and look for one of
them to be involved this week and JP seems
to favor Evans. The D they face this week
is no easier task than last week’s
so Buffalo’s D has to play better
against a better offense to keep JP in the
game.
New Orleans: Brooks
made mistakes and has to eliminate them this
week. Deuce should bounce back in a big way
this week after a mediocre day and Stallworth
will break loose this week. Horn will have
a good day and Conwell should open up the
middle with Sharper ailing. Saints match up
well on the D and will pressure Daunte all
day long and if the corners hold the Saints
can be 2-1.
Minnesota:
Birk is a huge loss up front, every opponent
has exploited it and had Daunte under the
gun. I am no expert but maybe moving Daunte
around and running the ball would help? If
they do Bennett/Moore could post decent numbers
and C-pep has time to throw the ball and posts
a 300yd game. Defense needs to play to potential,
0-3 is too big a hole for this team.
Cincinnati:
Palmer and his receivers are on fire and Johnson
has been solid. I expect more moderate success
this week but CJ will score and so should
Rudi but 30 points is unreasonable so Graham
should contribute 2 or 3 FGs. Defensively
the Tabby’s should pressure the rookie
QB but stopping Jones/Benson must be the priority
to pressuring Orton.
Chicago: Orton,
poised and very accurate as a rookie, is proving
to be a decent offensive threat. Jones should
find running room as the Bengals haven’t
been tested and I expect a score from him.
The WR’s will need to help Orton by
getting open on short slants and quick double
moves easing the Bear pressure. Defense is
dominant but will be tested this week; a game
I wanna see.
Tampa Bay: OK…Brian
Griese hasn’t tripped over his dog…yet.
He is actually on one of my fantasy teams
because of this favorable match-up. ‘Cadillac’
is as good as advertised and tore up one the
NFL’s better defenses last week so he
should start until further notice. Alex smith
may be a factor in the middle of the field
and Galloway will break a big one. Defensively,
Chucky’s team is scary but they have
yet too face a solid NFL offense…play
the D this week.
Green Bay: Ahman
Green has to do more, with less help but he
has to be a factor this week running and in
the pass game to keep Farve upright. Farve
will find Driver and Ferguson but rookie Terrance
Murphy will have to flash some of his potential
as a playmaker if the Pack stands a chance.
Defense has been ripped the past 2 weeks and
will be ripped again.
Indianapolis: Peyton
will look to score all the points they haven’t
in the first 2 weeks this week. Wayne, Harrison
and Edge all score and maybe even Clark but
the first 3 all top 100 yards also. Stokely
may score too but the defense will score as
well when the Browns are playing comeback.
Play COLTS this week…all of them!!
Cleveland: Dilfer
will find a rough day awaiting but the return
of Suggs and an effective running game may
allow the Browns to move the ball. Bryant
should out-match Colts DB’s and is dangerous
after the catch. Edwards is good but has to
move to WR2 before he makes plays consistently.
Defensively make them eat the clock while
scoring? I don’t see this being pretty.
Carolina: Jake
has to play better, not just good enough to
win. Davis may not have success rushing early
but Foster matches up well and should break
one for a score. Smith has been electric and
scores today. Look for Carolina to shut the
Dolphins out, I love the way the D rebounded
after losing DT Jenkins but they are hurting
again this week.
Miami: Brown
better show why he was a top pick or reasons
why Cadillac started ahead of him may be obvious.
That’s not fair because Frerotte’s
arm scares nobody so teams stack 8 and rush
the passer while stuffing him. McMichael is
key factor to opening holes for Brown this
week. Defensively Dolphins must plug up the
inside run and pressure Delhomme who has looked
shaky.
Jacksonville:
Leftwich has to show me more before I am a
believer and it will start this week. Jags
have to lean on Taylor more to give Leftwich
time. Jimmy is awesome and all Byron’s
other receivers are 6’6. No corner can
match up so just throw it! Del Rio’s
D is the reason this team wins and why the
Jags are a playoff team, Peyton’s golden
arm got 10 pts, ‘nuff said?
New York:
Pennington improved and Martin is healthy,
well, healthy enough but they aren’t
facing Miami this week. Martin finds room
but not enough to win so Chad will have to
exploit his WR matchups and the TE in the
middle of the field. Baker should score but
that is it. The Jets D will have to stuff
Taylor but be wary of the deep pass while
doing it but will keep it close.
