Last week was insane and teams
all took another step in sorting out the playoff
picture. Amazing races down the stretch in some
divisions and some teams look to clinch in others.
In the NFC the Hawks look to have a leg up on homefield
advantage through the playoffs and a couple more
wins will cement it. Indianapolis has a shot at
16-0 so naturally I think they are the team to beat
in the AFC and the road to the Superbowl goes through
the RCA Dome. Both teams look to clinch a playoff
berth this weekend with wins. Enough of what you
already know. Coming up next are the fantasy previews.
It's nearly Fantasy Playoffs time. Leagues are starting
to wind downs, and you need wins NOW, Not next week
right? We're here before week 13 of the NFL season
to help you prepare for your week so that you could
perhaps become your league's fantasy champion! Here
you can view the predictions for each game. The
Week 13 NFL analysis and fantasy previews are next…
Texans -
Wow. Does Johnson make a difference to this
offense? They came close to beating a capable
Rams team and the Texans have shown spunk
late in the season to save Capers job. I
think they continue with improving efforts
every week. Davis and Carr both looked much
more effective with AJ's return so expect
a decent performance from all three the
rest of the season. The defense has also
shown improvement with the offenses spark
to life and the return of key vets. Houston
has started to show potential people thought
they had before the season. Dom's job should
be safe and next year the Texans need to
keep their QB safer...hint: draft RT/LT/2G/C
Ravens - Boller
gutted out an attempted comeback last week
but the Ravens are not built for offensive
explosions. Heap had a great game and Mason
showed up on the scoring page but the biggest
factor was Lewis breaking out for his best
game of the season and scoring. That was
huge and this guy needs to be better and
show the Ravens he is the guy to keep. Taylor
sat out last week and Lewis took advantage.
The defense has been injured and a disappointment,
once a feared scoring threat the D is a
shell of its former incarnation with Lewis
and Reed missing extended time. They have
to get serious or Billick could be looking
for work...I'd hire him.
Falcons - Vick
has shocked throwing the ball a lot the past
few weeks, of course the Falcons have been
losing. Since when do NFL teams care how they
win? Vick and that running game have to be
the focus. Dunn has been a stud and with him
they can recover and compete for the division
title. The defense has to play better or Vick
and the run game can’t keep up. They
need to stop the run or the Falcons may miss
out on the post-season after their strong
start.
Panthers - Jake and Steve
the amazing duo have lost a little magic or
has the rest of the NFL figured out the Panthers
one track offense? I think the latter, Smith
is still a stud and Jake is still a playmaking
QB but they have started to involve the running
game which will pay off come the playoff.
Look for Foster to be a bigger part of the
offense as the season moves on. Peppers and
the Carolina D have played much better than
at the start of the season. Solid 8-3 team.
Packers - Favre
has been great but with all the offensive
injuries and turmoil on this team the past
season maybe it is time to call it a season
in Packerland and have Favre play the first
quarter all year and see what Aaron Rodgers
is made of the other three. Give him an opportunity
to learn on the field in a season that doesn't
matter and save Brett for next year when you
can surround him with their IR talent and
perhaps reduce the risk of injury to the future
HOFer. The defense could use some help but
KGB is a demon on the outside. He is a QB
killer like few others in the league and KGB,
Barrett and Kampman give the Packer D someone
to build around at the very least
Bears - Division leaders...who'da
thunk it? Defense wins championships means
the Bears win because hands down this is the
best defense in the NFL every single Sunday.
However, the offense has been overlooked and
I think young Orton is not getting the credit
he deserves. He scores when the Bears need
a score...then makes sure the team commits
no critical errors. That is smart football
and a future star QB, not a game manager.
Winning breeds confidence and the Bears have
confidence in their QB and the WR make plays
for him. Winning is everything and the Bears
are winning...'nuff said!
Jacksonville vs Cleveland
- Week 13 Fantasy Preview
Jaguars - Leftwich
injury hurts but the Jags have a weak schedule
to round out the season, aside from the Colts.
Garrard looked OK in relief and if he can
manage the game and make the occasional play
in the passing game or with his legs the Jags
cruise to a playoff spot. Matt Jones has started
contributing, Greg Jones has been a stud filling
in for Taylor and either go large this week.
The Jags roll on their D and that has been
solid all year. Henderson and Stroud are monsters
in the middle and the Cleveland QB and Droughns
will gameplan to avoid those two.
Browns - Romeo must come
to terms Dilfer isn’t getting it done.
Frye is a pick with potential and next years
draft is loaded with potential franchise QB’s.
Tome to find out if Frye is a player or they
need to draft a QB early to go with good looking
rook WR Edwards. Bryant is solid on the opposite
WR position and Droughns has solidified the
Browns rushing attack. Offense has potential
just needs a triggerman with a little flare.
Dilfer=no flare. The D has been surprisingly
solid all year keeping the Browns in every
game so expect a tight contest but Cleveland
is outgunned here.
Vikings - Brad
Johnson has managed to get the Vikes back
in the chase. Strike that the Vikes D has
managed that Johnson just hasn’t blow
it. The Vikes offense has to do more because
their D isn’t good enough to carry this
team against quality opponents or even the
Lions. Moore has played well of late and looks
to be the runner in Vike-ville for the time
being anyway which bodes well as he is a dynamic
dual threat. The D has been playing to expectations
finally but is it too little too late? They
must win this game against an emotional opponent
or the playoffs become a dream.
Lions - Mooch
is out but it was a matter of time. If Detroit
brass was smart Millen would have been gone
and Mooch kept. Millen has provided players
that don’t make plays no coach can make
a player out of a combine star. Joey has been
better recently but his O-line is still awful
and no QB has done much in Detroit as a result.
Jones has to be better or the Lions will be
mediocre at best but RWilliams at least keeps
teams honest respecting his ability to change
the game on every play. The D has been good,
even better than good if the offense could
hold up its end the Lions are fighting for
a playoff spot…not firing a coach in
week 13.
Tennessee vs Indianapolis
- Week 13 Fantasy Preview
Titans - Some
young WR's are learning quickly how difficult
it is to contribute in the NFL but they are
contributing and that may get McNair back
for another few seasons. A solid ground game
with Brown and Henry backing him and Troupe
was emerging as a stud TE before an injury
makes the Titans a very dangerous offense
any given Sunday. The defense is young and
typical Fischer defense...aggressive. They
have learned the hard way but experiences
build fast in young players and the D has
improved noticeably making for a competitive
team in a very short turnaround. Watch out
AFC the Titans are going to spoil some dreams
this year, not this week though.
Colts - What
can I say that hasn't been said? They are
the class of the NFL this year without question.
Offensively spectacular and defensively sound
the Colts are the favorite for everything
and be certain the RCA Dome will host a couple
playoff games. Harrison, Edge, Manning, Wayne
and even Clark are starts in most formats
simply because the Colts offense is going
to score. The defense is much improved but
are not invincible, just good enough Manning
doesn't feel he has to score every time he
gets the ball...good enough for 11-0 is good
enough for me and Dungy.
Bills - Losman
hasn’t looked like the savior in Buffalo
and I wonder if the Bills are going back to
Holcomb this year. The Bills still have an
outside shot at the AFC East but they would
need to beat the Phins on the road on Sunday.
MacGahee hasn’t looked explosive enough
and how can he against nine defenders so the
Bills passing game has to make plays and keep
MacGahee facing eight or less in the box.
The defense has started playing better and
we know how good Buffalo is at home in the
cold. Their chances revolve around D and MacGahee,
both need to step up now!!
Dolphins - Brown
and Williams has been a dangerous combo but
Frerotte has been gunning the ball all over
and keeping the Phins close in every game.
Chambers and McMichael have been awesome this
season supporting the journeyman QB. This
team has suffered some losses at LB that have
hurt the defense and Taylor hasn’t beeen
the disruptive force he needs to be. Offense
should be put in the rookies hands and Williams
to keep the stud Brown fresh. Saban has to
be pleased with results this year even though
they are out they can ruin Buffalo’s
year and play spoiler.
Tampa Bay vs New Orleans
- Week 13 Fantasy Preview
Bucs - Simms
has given the Bucs a chance but Cadillac is
the real show in TB. When he rushes for 80+
the Bucs are a much different team and can
play with any team. The kid is the real deal
and he gives the Bucs D time to refresh and
attack the opposition and Simms the ability
to play action deep to Galloway. I expect
big games from these two for the rest of the
season. Isn’t that what a running game
is for, to open up the deep pass? The Bucs
D is a tale of two D’s but they have
shown their dominance at times and bet on
them in the clutch with speedy playmakers
and ball hawks but the Saints offense has
been better recently and will be a good test.
Saints - They
haven’t quit on their coach which says
a lot for what the players think of Haslett
and teams that play for their coach down the
stretch ruin other teams playoff hopes. The
Saints enigmatic QB Brooks has played much
better and Donte Stallworth has started to
show his immense potential as a gamebreaker.
Horn’s return should help the passing
game and Stecker and Smith have filled in
adequately for McAllister. The defense has
been up and down but is strong up front pressuring
the passer but needs to improve against the
run to protect the CB’s who are capable.
The match-up this week has upset written all
over it as conference opponents face each
other in a critical game for one team and
another coming off a big win and playing for
pride
