I love this time of year…games
on Saturday!! Now I am a worthless heap of <stuff>
both days of the weekend. Besides getting nothing
done and putting off my Christmas shopping another
day I can bypass the tragic congestion of a mall
on Saturday and visit later on Tuesday. See how
football makes life’s decisions easier and
my fantasy fanaticism requires the second by second
stat tracking online during fantasy playoffs! Here
are my thoughts on the games this weekend and how
you too can win your league and become legendary!
At least for the next nine months anyway. The Week
15 Previews are next...
Patriots -
No matter who lines up in the backfield
this week, running lanes will much tighter
than normal against a sturdy TB run D. Brady
is the star anyway and he will be poised
as usual keeping his team in the game with
big plays in clutch moments. Branch should
get the majority of the looks but Davis
could make an impact opposite the top target.
Watson has yet to be consistent enough to
start on a regular basis but he may fare
well against the TB LB’s. The NE D
has improved with the return of Bruschi
and Seymour but still hasn’t played
at an elite level against the pass or the
run. The Pats will likely win the East by
default but look for the Champs to finish
strong with their experience and the team
coming together at the right time. PATS:Start: Brady, Branch -
Bench: Givens, Graham, Pass, DST
Bucs - Buccaneers:
The Bucs want to keep driving that luxury
ride. Cadillac Williams has proven his importance
to his team reflected by the awesome record
they sport with him in the lineup piling
up carries, yards and time. Another good
day against a NE run D that struggles means
Simms and Galloway hook up often…and
deep. All three could score a couple TD’s
today. Clayton could also shine if he is
healthy. Simms has played well and he knows
the secret to success is taking time off
the clock to set up the defense that has
been stellar in almost every occasion to
help the Bucs win with big plays and turnovers.
They will be extra motivated because their
playoff hopes lie in the balance of the
season and Brady will go down swinging.
BUCS - Start:
Caddy, Simms, Galloway - Bench:-
DST, Pittman. A Smith
Kansas City @ New York
G-Men - Week 15 Fantasy Preview
Chiefs - Tough
loss last week but no time to worry about
last week. The Chiefs playoff lives could
be determined today against the Gmen. Green
will look to exploit the secondary and loosen
up the middle with LJ busting up a Pierce-less
Giant D. LJ should have another big game,
the guy looks unstoppable. Gonzo will be a
big play guy for the Giants who will have
trouble tracking him down. Kennison and Hall
may be limited in contributions but if the
Giants blitz Green may air it out. The defense
has been porous this season but if they can
play to their potential these next few weeks
the Chiefs should make the playoffs. Surtain
and Warfield need to play better or teams
will keep airing it out against the Chiefs.
CHIEFS - Start:
LJ, Green, Gonzo - Bench:
DST, Kennison, Hall
Giants - The Giants have
been solid this season and lead the NFC East
division by a game. Thanks largely to Tiki
Barber who has proven himself an elite back
and fantasy star this season consistently
putting up big yards and TD’s. Eli has
been decent but has shown signs of his growth
this season and played capably with Shockey
and Burress stepping up to help the young
QB. Those two should have big games against
a poor Chief pass D and Tiki is a must start.
The defense has been the biggest surprise
but they face a tough test without perhaps
their best defensive player Antonio Pierce.
That puts more pressure on Strahan and Umenyora
to force turnovers and stuff the Chiefs O
before it can go. NY - Start: Barber Shockey Burress
- Bench: Eli DST
Broncos: This
looks like a no-brainer matchup pitting the
awesome rushing attack of the Broncos against
the poor run D of the Bills. Jake has been
prone to mistakes lately so expect the Broncos
to remain patient with the run game and Bell
and Anderson to run wild in snowy Buffalo.
The weather wont favor a passing game so I
would say reserving the WR’s and TE’s
on this game is a good idea. Smith could have
some big grabs just because it is what he
does. The defense will have to be especially
good against MacGahee who is a force on the
ground so look for Denver to keep Lynch around
the line and force the Bills to throw. Sound
defense and a good running game has kept Denver
in the AFC West division lead and they are
the better team in this one. DEN -
Start: Bell, Anderson,
DST - Bench: Plummer, Smith,
Lelie
Bills: Losman has learned
the hard way and I think Buffalo’s entire
team learned and struggled along with him.
Moulds is back after a one game suspension
but he was suspended for not being happy with
his role in the offense. That is no secret
to Bills fans or the rest of the league who
are thrilled the Bills have decided not to
include the former Probowler in their offensive
gameplan. MacGahee is the game plan and every
team knows it so they are ready but MacGahee
is good enough to overcome that too. If the
Bills could trust Losman with the ball the
Bills would be playing for something right
now, instead of playing spoiler. The defense
has suffered and will have to shore up the
run D on Saturday or this game will only feel
long because Denver will pound the ball all
day long. The pass D has played well but not
enough big plays from the defense and poor
offense have eliminated a chance of success.
BILLS - Start:
MacGahee - Bench: Losman,
Moulds, Evans, DST
Cards - Cardinals:
The Cards have got talented WR’s and
they have proven all year they can get it
done but the Cards pathetic running attack
has crippled the offense. Warner has shown
the ability to throw the ball well again and
Fitz and Boldin are likely the deadliest duo
in the league. Both make big plays this week
as the Cards shred the Texans pass D. Arrington
may find more success on the ground and out
of the backfield and the Cards throw so much
anoth receiver should have a good outing.
The defense is spotty but coming together
late in the season as young defenses do. They
will continue to improve until the last game
and expect the Cards to run off a string of
wins to keep Dennis Green’s job safe.
AZ - Start: Warner, Fitz,
Boldin - Bench: DST, Arrington,
Shipp
Texans - David Carr has
played well the past four games or so and
the Texans seem to be a different team since
they settled on an O-line and Johnson returned.
They are still losing so my accolades only
extend to courtesy recognizing effort. They
need to get things done and involve a deep
passing game to further utilize the talents
of AJ and create room for Davis who has taken
the team on his back. Johnson should be a
start this week against the Cards pass D and
young DB’s and Davis will be huge again.
The defense has played better but are not
talented enough to stop teams consistently
so scoring could be high - HOU - Start:
A. Johnson, Davis - Bench:
DST, Gaffney, Wells
San Diego @ Indianapolis

Chargers -
The Bolts took one on the chin last week but
this offense can score with anybody and the
defense can stop teams occasionally making
them ever dangerous. Gates and Brees have
the deadliest TE-QB combo in the league and
McCardell could shine this game too. The star
in SD though is LT and he will be jacked to
run up and down the Colts vaunted defense.
Expect big games from all four of those guys
knowing this is a must win game for them to
keep up with Denver and KC. The defense will
be tested but should have a decent day if
they can stop Edge and pressure Manning. Enough
early pressure and Dungy may pull him to avoid
injury…wishful thinking I know but the
Chargers need this one bad, expect some passion
and motivation to spur the D. SD -
Start: Brees, Gates, LT, McCardell
- Bench: DST, Parker
Colts - What
does one say about a 13-0 team? Do I need
to tell you who to start? All of them, from
Manning to Edge, Harrison and Wayne. Even
Dallas Clark could be worth a start and Stokely
has been silent maybe ready to break out.
End story is we just don’t know if Dungy
will ‘rest’ guys or not. Risky
for Colts owners during fantasy playoffs but
probably worth a risk. The defense is up for
a stiff challenge against the dynamic Bolts
offense. They will have to load up and try
to stop LT but that will leave Gates open
to patrol the middle of the field. A challenge
but the Colts D has shown they are up to a
shootout if the other team forces one. Indi
- Start: Everyone - Bench: DST
49ers - The
only race the 49ers are in at this stage is
the battle for the top pick in next year's
draft. San Fran has dropped six consecutive
games, including an embarrassing 41-3 loss
to the Seattle Seahawks this past Sunday.
I don't see much changing this week for the
49ers. Smith's rookie woes are also likely
to continue when he comes face-to-face with
one of the league's best defensive lines.
Gore, Barlow and Hicks won't do anything,
and Brandon Lloyd won't get enough looks from
Smith. The Jaguars and 49ers have met just
once all-time, a 41-3 Jacksonville rout at
home during the 1999 season. 49ers
- Start: Noone - Bench: Everyone
Jaguars - The
Jaguars continue their push for the playoffs
this Sunday, as they host the floundering
San Francisco 49ers at ALLTEL Stadium. The
Jaguars did a decent job of slowing down Edgerrin
James and Indy's rushing attack last week,
so just imagine what they could get up to
this week. Jacksonville has the league's 15th-
best rushing defense with an average of 107.2
yards allowed per contest. This spells doom
for the niners RB's. Jacksonville has the
league's 12th-best rushing offense, averaging
117.8 yards per game and San Francisco's defense
yielded 438 total yards of offense to Seattle
last week and 185 of those came on the ground.
This bodes well for the Jags. Jacksonville
will be able to run the ball successfully
and Garrard should have his best game yet
against the reeling San Francisco secondary.
Jax - Start: Gerrard, Smith,
Wiltord, Jags DST - Bench:
M. Jones, G. Jones, Taylor
Jets - Herm
Edwards has my sympathies. Losing 2 QB’s
is tough and this offense has never gotten
on track because of the turmoil at QB. Coles
hasn’t made plays like he needs to when
he has gotten opportunities and McCariens
hasn’t been much help either. Martin
the best and only consistent offensive player
is on the shelf opening the door for rookie
Cedric Houston who is a big fast RB with good
vision. He gets a banged up Miami D so look
for him to help out Bollinger with a good
run game. The defense has played much better
than the Jets record shows and has kept the
anemic offense close in every game. Any chance
the Jets have start with the defense. NYJ
- Start: DST, Houston - Bench:
Coles, McCareins, QB
Dolpins - Who
knows who will play QB for the Dolphins week-in
week-out but I say Frerotte’s hot streak
of huge passing games gets him the nod. This
week will be a tough one for an offense that
has been dynamic the past few weeks against
less formidable defenses. Law will match up
on Chambers but no CB can take him one-on-one.
Brown has seen a drop in his carries but he
is dangerous and very effective when he is
given opportunity which he will today. Williams
has been a non-factor most games but the Jets
run D will be tested by both Phin RB’s.
The defense is solid but missing key players
and has been very inconsistent throughout
the season. They will attack the Jets young
QB and force turnovers today staying in the
race for the division. MIA - Start:
Chambers, Brown DST - Bench:
Booker, Frerotte, Williams
Steelers - Big
Ben hasn’t been much help to a reeling
Steelers team but they won and need to follow
up their success with another victory this
week to keep alive in the playoff hunt. Bettis
and Parker will see a ton of work this game
to exploit the Minnesota run D which is still
a weak link. Ward will be tested but is easily
one of the tougher and smarter WR’s
in the league, he will find an opening. Randle
El may be used to test the Vikes deep where
they have vulnerabilities. Pitts D will have
to step up the pressure like last week and
get to Brad Johnson but they were very impressive
last wee and expect the veteran D to finish
the season strong heading into the playoffs…they
hope.
PIT - Start: DST, Ward, Parker - Bench: Bettis,
Big Ben, Randle El
Vikings - Riding
the streak effectively after the “Love
Boat” escapade and losing Daunte this
team has gelled together and played to potential
especially on defense. Moore/Bennett will
have a tough day unless they burn the D with
receptions out of the backfield early. Brad
Johnson will be under pressure so look for
deep sideline routes to his big WR’s
to alleviate the pressure some. KRob could
have a big day as could Marcus Robinson. The
defense is the standout compononent and needs
to continue to play as well as they have to
catch the Bears. The D has scored and created
big plays to start and continue the win streak
and they will have to do it every week as
the offense continues to find consistency.
MIN - Start: KRob, MRob DST
- Bench: Brad Johnson, RB’s,
Wiggins
