NFL Week 5 Fantasy Football
Tips
This is our waiver wire pick-ups column. The
WagerOnFootball.com staff will scour the free
agent pools in fantasy land for the best available
talent every week. Availability, of course,
depends on the league. We’re using 12
team, 15 roster spot leagues as the median,
but we’ll look for roster candidates for
leagues of all shapes and sizes. Grab the following
before NFL Week 5.

WEEK 5 FANTASY FOOTBALL WAIVER WIRE |
1. Charlie Frye |
Waiver
Wire - QUARTERBACKS
Frye makes
his share of youthful mistakes, but he
is throwing a lot and finding his emerging
young weapons week after week. |
|
Waiver
Wire - QB'S
In his first start, Leinart faces one
of the more difficult matchups he could
have. In the Chiefs, he will see the league's
No. 2 overall defense and one of three
teams that have yet to allow a passing
TD. |
|
Waiver
Wire - QB's
If the Redskins can handle the Giants'
pressure, Brunell can continue making
big plays. The Redskins have hit their
stride offensively with 67 points in the
last two games |
|
Waiver Wire
- RUNNING BACKS
As long as the Titans keep the game competitive,
they will try to run the ball hard and
that could mean a big dose of White vs
the Indi Colts this week. |
2. Musa Smith
|
Waiver
Wire - RB's
Smith has overtaken RB Mike Anderson as
starter RB Jamal Lewis' primary backup.
The Ravens hit the road this week to face
an excellent Denver run defense. |
3. Leon Washington
|
Waiver
Wire - RB's
Washington jumps up a notch, but the Jaguars
will not allow him to get outside. With
the Jaguars hurting up the middle because
of DT Marcus Stroud's ankle injury, that
is where whatever holes the Jets will
find will be. |
|
Waiver
Wire - WIDE RECEIVERS
Gabriel has been the intended receiver on
more Brady throws (including two he turned
into TDs) than any other Pats receiver the
past two weeks. |
|
Waiver
Wire - WR's
Feel free to pick him up, but give it plenty
of thought before starting him this week.
Furrey has quality size and speed, and he
knows the offense of Lions coordinator Mike
Martz well. But a good deal of his success
appears circumstantial: WR Roy Williams
is freeing him up. |
|
Waiver
Wire - WR's
A glass-half-full owner looks at Robinson
and sees a guy coming off a five-catch,
78-yard, one-TD outing. We look at him and
see a player who was a healthy scratch in
Week 3. Few fantasy performers are as unpredictable |
|
Waiver
Wire - WR's
Injuries move Lewis up the depth chart,
but he still is a risky play. Lewis burned
Green Bay on two long touchdowns Monday
night. Most teams have had success throwing
the ball against the Packers, so Lewis’
performance is not all together shocking. |
|
Waiver
Wire - WR's
QB Drew Bledsoe rarely throws to anybody
but his top two receivers, tight ends
and running backs out of the backfield.
Crayton's value is limited.
|
1. Kansas City |
Waiver
Wire - DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS
The Chiefs defense, getting a rookie QB
in his first start, is poised for its
second big game in a row. Expect a couple
of turnovers and sacks behind a poor offensive
line, making the Chiefs' defense a must-start
for another week.
