NFL Week 3 Fantasy Football
Tips
This is our waiver wire pick-ups column. The
WagerOnFootball.com staff will scour the free
agent pools in fantasy land for the best available
talent every week. Availability, of course,
depends on the league. We’re using 12
team, 15 roster spot leagues as the median,
but we’ll look for roster candidates for
leagues of all shapes and sizes. Grab the following
before NFL Week 3.

WEEK 3 FANTASY FOOTBALL WAIVER WIRE |
1. Rex Grossman |
A monster
game seemingly out of nowhere, although
Grossman did throw for 262 yards in Week
1. He hooked up with WR Bernard Berrian
and TE Desmond Clark on two long touchdown
strikes, and found backup TE John Gilmore
twice from within the 10-yard line. With
the game out in hand, Grossman gave way
to QB Brian Griese midway through the
fourth quarter. |
|
Waiver
Wire - QB'S
Alex Smith completed 11-of-22 passes
for 233 yards and a TD Sunday. Smith's
efficiency needs work, but he was better
than those numbers suggest. His touchdown
came on a 72-yard completion to Antonio
Bryant, his favorite target. Smith will
likely be inconsistent in his second season
but he's emerging as a workable QB2, not
the next Heath Shuler. |
|
Turner came on in relief of LaDainian
Tomlinson once the game became a blowout
in the second half and broke off a 73-yard
run. Turner has played like a legit RB3
option so far, but it's tough to count
on the Chargers getting ahead by enough
each game for Tomlinson to take the fourth
quarter off. |
|
Waiver Wire
- RB'S
Kubiak was impressed by Samkon Gado's
performance in Week 3, saying Gado showed
"big-play ability." The three-man
RBBC makes all Texans backs nothing more
than desperate flex plays in all leagues. |
3. Correll Buckhalter |
Waiver
Wire - RB's
Buckhalter appears to be the key insurance
player owners for Brian Westbrook need to
acquire. He should not start for Fantasy
owners, but he's worth reserving at this
point. Reserve him in all leagues for Week
3 at San Francisco. |
4. DeAngelo Williams |
Waiver
Wire - RB's
Foster has averaged only 2.9 yards per
carry and he rushed 13 times for only
26 yards against Minnesota Sunday. Williams
didn't get any carries in Week 1, but
he had 74 yards on 13 carries against
the Vikings, including a 19-yard run on
his first pro carry. He also caught five
balls for 24 yards. Until further notice,
start Foster as a No. 2 RB in Week 3 at
Tampa Bay, with Williams a decent flex
option. |
|
Cotchery scored a mind-boggling 71-yard
touchdown where he was hit hard, landed
on a defender, and scampered past a snoring
secondary for a long TD. While that was
fluky, Cotchery was targeted often and once
again showed toughness and great hands.
He's a decent WR3 option next week against
a suddenly stingy Bills D though. |
|
Waiver
Wire - WR's
14 receptions in his first 2 games. Formerly
known as a first-round bust, Williams has
come a long way. He's not going to outrun
DBs, but his speed has improved. Williams
came up big late in the fourth quarter by
making a 48-yard catch on a third-and-four
that set up a field goal. He should be owned
in all leagues. |
|
Waiver
Wire - WR's
Berrian is going to get picked up in a lot
of Fantasy leagues, and he's worthy of it
-- to a point. Don't go making him your
No. 2 or even No. 3 Fantasy receiver at
this juncture. Spend a roster spot on him
over a lesser receiving option and wait
to see how he progresses. He should be good
for around 50 yards per week. |
|
Waiver
Wire - WR's
Toomer finished with a huge game: 12 catches,
with two going for touchdowns. This goes
to show that the Giants haven't totally
forgotten about their all-time leading receiver.
He is worthy of being owned in all formats
and should be considered a decent start
as a No. 3 receiver or flex option in Week
3 at Seattle. He already has 17 catches
on the year. Keep an eye on Shockey's injury
status. |
|
Waiver
Wire - WR's
Braylon Edwards caught four passes for
110 yards, including a 75-yard catch in
Week 3 at Cincinnati. He did not find
the end zone in the game, but still posted
nice totals. Edwards could potentially
become a No. 2 option in Fantasy leagues,
but for now remains mainly a flex option
for Week 3 vs. Baltimore.
|
5. Atlanta Falcons |
Hartwell and Abraham's presence will only
help the Falcons defense, who looked great
in Week 3 without them. They should be
considered a good bye-week replacement
unit for Week 3 Fantasy play.
