NFL Week 5 Fantasy Football
Tips
This is our waiver wire pick-ups column. The
WagerOnFootball.com staff will scour the free
agent pools in fantasy land for the best available
talent every week. Availability, of course,
depends on the league. We’re using 12
team, 15 roster spot leagues as the median,
but we’ll look for roster candidates for
leagues of all shapes and sizes. Grab the following
before NFL Week 5.

WEEK 4 FANTASY FOOTBALL WAIVER WIRE |
1. Charlie Frye |
Waiver
Wire - QUARTERBACKS
Frye's name
is the unfamiliar one near the top of
the rushing TDs by quarterbacks after
he ran for a score in each of the Browns'
first three games. He also has found a
big-play weapon in WR Braylon Edwards,
who should attack the Raiders' suspect
defense vertically. |
|
Waiver
Wire - QB'S
ESPN's Chris Mortensen said Dennis Green
changed his mind overnight. Kurt Warner
will have to put his turnover problems
in the past and will be on a short leash,
but Leinart's first start will have to
wait. Warner owners in deeper leagues
can keep Leinart on their roster in the
meantime. |
|
Waiver
Wire - QB's
With Chris Simms (spleen) sidelined, Bucs
head coach Jon Gruden said Monday that
rookie QB Bruce Gradkowski will start
for the Bucs in Week 5 at New Orleans.
Gradkowski will be backed up by Tim Rattay. |
|
Waiver Wire
- RUNNING BACKS
Morris is one of the only running backs
in the NFL with a yards-per-carry average
as bad as Shaun Alexander. We don't hold
out much hope for a big effort this Sunday
night against Chicago. After that, Seattle
has a bye, then the Rams. |
2. Michael Robinson
|
Waiver
Wire - RB's
Robinson is valuable as a handcuff to Frank
Gore, who has an injury history and is struggling
with fumbles. The converted quarterback
should be owned in all fantasy leagues. |
3. Maurice Jones-Drew
|
Waiver
Wire - RB's
Foster has averaged only 2.9 yards per
carry and he rushed 13 times for only
26 yards against Minnesota Sunday. Williams
didn't get any carries in Week 1, but
he had 74 yards on 13 carries against
the Vikings, including a 19-yard run on
his first pro carry. He also caught five
balls for 24 yards. Until further notice,
start Foster as a No. 2 RB in Week 5 at
Tampa Bay, with Williams a decent flex
option. |
|
Waiver
Wire - WIDE RECEIVERS
McNair and Clayton are beginning to get
into rhythm with one another and Clayton
may be able to exploit some single coverage
matchups. The youngster could surprise with
a big play or two any given Sunday. |
|
Waiver
Wire - WR's
He’s scored in back-to back weeks
and now deserves a roster spot, if not a
starting spot, in leagues of all sizes.
He is a low-end No. 3 WR option Week 5 as
the Packers travel to Philadelphia. |
|
Waiver
Wire - WR's
Most all of Gabriel's 65 yards on 6 receptions
came vs. loose coverage the Broncos were
playing with a solid lead. I would not call
Gabriel the "go to guy" yet. The
Pats are still looking for a big play receiver. |
|
Waiver
Wire - WR's
Seahawks WR Nate Burleson caught four passes
for 42 yards and a TD in Week 3 vs. the
N.Y. Giants. Burleson has been struggling
thus far and will need to increase his awareness
of the offense and get more comfotable with
QB Matt Hasselbeck. |
5. Braylon Edwards (again) |
Waiver
Wire - WR's
Braylon Edwards had five receptions for
116 yards and a touchdown in Week 3 against
the Ravens. It was his second consecutive
100-yard and third-career game eclipsing
the mark. Edwards is making an impact
as a much-needed deep threat for a previously
conservative offense.
|
1. Minnesota Vikings |
Waiver
Wire - DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS
The Vikings held the Bears to 19 points,
278 passing yards and 51 rushing yards.They
will face the Bills in Buffalo next week
and will have the chance to put up a good
outing there. Consider using them if your
primary defense is on bye in Week 5.
