Fantasy Football Waiver Wire - Week 5
(Following Week 5's NFL Games)
This is our waiver wire pick-ups
column. The WagerOnFootball.com staff will scour
the free agent pools in fantasy land for the best
available talent every week. Availability, of course,
depends on the league. We’re using 12 team,
15 roster spot leagues as the median, but we’ll
look for roster candidates for leagues of all shapes
and sizes. Grab the following before NFL Week 5.

WEEK
5 NFL FANTASY FOOTBALL WAIVER WIRE
Jeff Garcia
Waiver
Wire - QUARTERBACKS
Ok here is the
scoop of the year. When Garcia comes back
in a couple weeks Joey I SUCK Harrington will
be benched. Mooch can't afford to lose this
season with a struggling QB so watch for the
hook there. Grab Garcia now before everyone
else does.
Charlie Batch
With Tommy Maddox out, if Steelers' starter
Ben Roethlisberger (hyperextended left knee)
is forced to the sidelines, Batch would start
against the Jaguars on Sunday, and possibly
a couple of games after that, the Pittsburgh
Post-Gazette reports. Right now, all preliminary
indications are that way. Those who are looking
for some short-term QB depth may want to consider
Batch
Kelly Holcomb
Holcomb was strong in his first game as a
Buffalo starter, completing 20 of 26 passes
for 169 yards and a touchdown to Eric Moulds.
It was interesting to see the Bills offense
run so much better with the change in QBs,
with Moulds, Lee Evans and Mark Campbell all
being much more involved. It's pretty much
a certainty that Holcomb will start next week
against the Jets.
Cedrick Houston
Waiver
Wire - RUNNING BACKS
Though Houston did not record a carry in
Week 5, fellow running back Derrick Blaylock
suffered a foot injury and is out for the
year. The team will probably have to sign
another running back, but with Blaylock gone,
Houston slides into the Jets' No. 2 RB slot,
at least temporarily.
Tony Fisher
Ahmen Green is breathing easier today. With
Davenport out for the year Fisher moves up
the depth chart to back up the so far under
achieving Green. Wait and see on this guy.
He's a good receiver though for those in leagues
awarding catches you'll like him in there
on a stud's bye week.
Antowain Smith
With reports that Deuce McAllister is done
for the season with a knee injury, Smith is
in line step in as the Saints' featured back.
If Smith is still out there in your league,
grab him immediately, especially if you are
a McAllister owner.
Joe Jurevicius
Waiver Wire - WIDE RECEIVERS
Jurevicius caught a career-best nine passes
for 137 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's
37-31 victory at St. Louis. With Darrell Jackson
out for a few more weeks, Jurevicius should
remain in the starting lineup and as such
is worth a pickup if he is still available
in your league.
Eric Moulds
Moulds had his best game of 2005 by a good
margin in Sunday's win over the Dolphins,
catching seven passes for 59 yards and a score.
Moulds has a lot more to work with when Kelly
Holcomb is out there, and we'll see if he
can build on this performance in the coming
weeks.
Brian Finneran
He is emeging as a decent bye week fill in.
I'm serious. Schaub sure likes him that's for
sure. Finneran caught five passes for 103 yards
in Sunday's loss to the Patriots. Finneran led
the Falcons in receiving yards, but did not
score this week. If Michael Vick misses any
more time with his sprained knee, Finneran and
Alge Crumpler appear to be Schaub's go-to-guys.

FANTASY FOOTBALL WAIVER WIRE
Chris Cooley
Waiver
Wire - TIGHT ENDS
Cooley was more involved on Sunday catching
eight passes for 82 yards and a touchdown.
This is the kind of production owners expected
when drafting Cooley. His numbers have increased
over the last few weeks as quarterback Mark
Brunell becomes more comfortable in the offense.
Bills DST
Waiver
Wire - DST's
Trust me on this one. Add the Bills Defense
for this weeks matchup vs the New York Jets.
Martin and Vinny aren't enough to move the
chains with any significance in this game.
With Holcomb now on the field Buffalo's Defense
is now getting some rest with sustained production
and drives by their offense. Both are pluses
for this underachieving unit. If they're on
the wire, grab them this week.
Matt Bryant
Waiver
Wire - Kickers
Bryant made all four of his field goal attempts
for Tampa Bay on Sunday. Bryant is now 8-for-9
on field goal attempts for the Bucs this season,
tied for sixth in the NFL after Sunday's game.
Bryant has brought stability to the Bucs'
kicking game, and he's made Bucs fans forget
all about Martin Gramatica.
