Fantasy Hot & Not - Following Week 4's NFL Games

FANTASY
FOOTBALL WHO'S HOT - AFTER WEEK 4 |
Kevin Curtis, WR ST.L:
|
Week 5 Outlook: A solid start,
even against a decent cornerback. Seattle
CB Andre Dyson is athletic and experienced,
and the Seahawks will cause QB Marc Bulger
problems with their pass rush. But WR Torry
Holt will draw so much attention that Curtis
often will work against single coverage, which
will draw Bulger's eye.
|
Joe Jurevicius, WR - SEA: |
Week 5 Outlook: Need a Week 5
fill-in? You just found your man. Jurevicius has
everything going his way in Week 5, including
opportunity and matchup. With WRs Darrell Jackson
(knee) and Bobby Engram (ribs) likely out, Jurevicius
should be Seattle's No. 1 receiver. That could
force QB Matt Hasselbeck to be a bit less democratic
in his distribution of the ball, yet the Seahawks
could be forced to throw often to keep pace with
St. Louis. |
Ravens D/ST |
Week 5 Outlook: Detroit has plenty
of weapons, but the Lions apparently have no clue
how to use them. At least, QB Joey Harrington
doesn't seem to know how. And because Harrington
generally responds poorly to pressure, he will
be a sack magnet against a relentless Baltimore
defense that will run some 4-6 fronts (sorry RB
Kevin Jones) and bring lots of pass-rush heat |
Edgerrin James, RB - IND: |
Week 5 Outlook: Because the 49ers
are so hobbled in the secondary (where they weren't
all that deep or talented to begin with), expect
the team to drop seven or eight defenders into
coverage on most plays. And though San Francisco's
front line has pulled its weight, the linebackers
have been out of position at times--a weakness
James is especially qualified to exploit. |
Brandon Lloyd - WR - 49ers |
Week 5 Outlook: Brandon Lloyd
is the only player the niners have. Somebody has
to be able to help this team??!!! |
Keyshawn Johnson, WR - DAL |
Week 5
Outlook: Johnson works the intermediate
area of the field as well as anyone in football
and should be a popular target for a pressured
Drew Bledsoe. Unable to wait for his downfield
receivers to get open against a blitz-happy
Eagles' defense, Bledsoe will settle for short-intermediate
throws to Johnson.

FANTASY
FOOTBALL WHO'S NOT HOT |
Alex Smith TE, Bucs:
|
Week 5 Outlook: Limited impact
with passing game on back-burner. Smith is a solid
receiver but with Tampa's offense relying heavily
on the run, his receiving chances will be limited.
In addition, New York has athletic linebackers
and safeties capable of containing Smith downfield |
J.J. Arrington, RB Cardinals:
|
Week 5 Outlook: Change-of-pace
carries is all he'll get for now. Arrington still
seems to be learning the ropes, and he isn't likely
to luck into any big plays at this point. He is
a quicksilver runner, but he needs a seam and
he hasn't learned to be patient and set up his
blocks. And because RB Marcel Shipp is the third-down
back and the goal-line runner his value is limited. |
Brian Jones, TE Jags:
|
Week 5 Outlook: Jags' best pass-catching
TE isn't much help. The Jaguars have too many
other talented options to throw the ball to that
have both size and much more playmaking ability
than Jones |
Eric Moulds – BUF K:
|
Week 5 Outlook: Horrid season
continues as passing game goes down in flames.
Moulds' four week stats (10-catches, 80-yards)
are more along the line of what you would expect
from him in one game. It's been an abysmal season
for Moulds and doesn't look likely to improve
against the Dolphins. With Buffalo's passing game
in tatters, Moulds' downfield passing ability
is a nonfactor. |
Marty Booker – MIA WR:
|
Week 5 Outlook: Conservative
offense offers few big play opportunities. Miami's
passing game is limited to short, safe throws.
Gus Frerotte will target Booker as a possession
receiver but with limited receptions and little
big play ability, Booker is a fantasy no-go |
John Carney – NO K:
|
Week 5 Outlook:
Don't expect more than extra points this week.
The Saints should score TDs in Green Bay, but
don't expect a lot of field-goal production for
Carney. He hasn't kicked well on grass lately,
he has missed a couple of chip shots this season,
and Green Bay's red-zone defense is awful. |
