NFL
week 6 2006 power rankings
Each week during the heart
of the NFL season, and once or twice during
the NFL Preseason, we'll gather the troops around
the roundtable and hash out the NFL Power rankings.
We check out the stats, looks at the records,
and, most importantly, we take a close, close
look at the heart of each team. We encourage
you to come back each week and see how the NFL
Power Rankings have changed. NFL Power Rankings
will be updated by Wednesday every week. Be
sure to visit our home page for more articles
and NFL analysis. Its with this knowledge that
we can then deliver to you The
NFL Power Rankings!
With the NFL week 5 behind
us, it's time to check in with the Week 6 NFL
Power Rankings.
Wager
On Football's 2006 NFL Power Rankings |
This week's NFL Power rankings were determined
by a poll of WageronFootball staff -- writers
Q. Smyth, D. Bachman, and M. Pool. |
The Bears destroyed the Buffalo Bills on Sunday,
while the Colts barely defeated the Tennessee
Titans in their Week 5 matchup. As a result, it's
Chicago at No. 1 and Indianapolis at No. 2. The
Broncos jumped five spots (No. 8 to No. 3), while
the Chargers moved up four places (No. 9 to No.
5).
Also taking a tumble this week are the Oakland
Raiders, who have now been judged to be the
league's worst team and populate position No.
32. The Raiders are one of four winless teams
right now - the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Detroit
Lions, and the Tennessee Titans are the other
three. Those four clubs take up the bottom four
spots in this week's edition of the rankings,
and all four will be in action once again in
Week 6. If the Raiders can somehow pull out
a victory over the Broncos on Sunday night they
might be able to leapfrog one or more of those
teams next week.
Here is the Week 6 edition of the NFL Power
Rankings.

Didn't get a shutout versus
the Bills, but three touchdowns in the second
quarter turned the game into a laugher. |
2 |
Peyton
Manning threw for only 166 yards in their
win over the Titans; he used to do that
in just a single half of play. |
3 |
Jake Plummer threw for just
106 yards against the Ravens on Monday night,
but they still picked up the victory. |
4 |
Donovan
McNabb threw for 354 yards as the Eagles
surged to a 38-24 win over Terrell Owens
and his Cowboys. |
5 |
Didn't get much from LaDainian
Tomlinson on Sunday, but they still managed
to get a victory versus the Steelers. |
6 |
Fell from
the ranks of the unbeaten with their loss
on Monday night. Steve McNair was picked
off three times. |
7 |
It's not looking like winning
the AFC East is going to be much of a challenge
for the Patriots again this season. |
8 |
Shaun
Alexander isn't expected to be back on the
field for the Seahawks when they come off
a bye this week. |
9 |
Are enjoying seeing the
rival Steelers floundering to start the
season, but they need to worry about the
Ravens. |
10 |
Come off
a bye to host the Giants this week. Trail
the Saints by a half game for first place
in the NFC South. |
11 |
Emphatically defeated the
Jets at home on Sunday, going up 28-0 at
halftime and then cruising to a 41-0 victory. |
12 |
Win over
Cleveland on Sunday was important, but they're
still languishing in third place in the
NFC South division. |
13 |
Reggie Bush scored a TD,
and Deuce McAllister ran for 123 yards as
the Saints held onto first place in the
division. |
14 |
Win over
the Packers last week put them alone atop
the NFC West. Have the rival Seahawks coming
up though. |
15 |
The marriage between T.O.
and the Cowboys is just going to get uglier;
the WR had only three catches on Sunday. |
16 |
Eli Manning
threw for 256 yards and a touchdown versus
the 'Skins, but the Giants' defense got
them the victory. |
17 |
Climbed back over the .500
mark with their win over the Lions on Sunday,
but they trail the Bears by two games. |
18 |
Need to
go back to the drawing board with their
offense, as their loss on Sunday dropped
them to 1-3 on the year. |
19 |
Two straight victories have
pulled them back to the .500 mark. Meet
the struggling Steelers in Week 6 action. |
20 |
Washington
fell to 2-3 on the season with a lackluster
performance in New York where they scored
three points. |
21 |
Awful game for Chad Pennington
versus the Jaguars: 10-of-17 for 71 yards
passing, with three interceptions. |
22 |
Alex Smith
tossed three touchdown strikes as the 49ers
got past the floundering Raiders on Sunday
afternoon. |
23 |
Found out the Bears were
a tough team Sunday, with J.P. Losman and
company getting completely shut down. |
24 |
Can extend
their winning streak to a lofty two games
by getting past the Cowboys on the road
this weekend. |
25 |
Joey Harrington went 26-of-41
for 232 yards, zero TDs, two INTs versus
the Pats. He could start again Sunday. |
26 |
No touchdown
passes, two interceptions for Charlie Frye
vs. the Panthers as the Browns stayed in
the cellar. |
27 |
Matt Leinart was good (a
lot of the time) in his debut as the Cards'
starter, although he couldn't get them a
win. |
28 |
Could've
gotten back on track with a win over the
Saints, but instead they're way down in
the NFC South cellar. |
29 |
Tried to stage a comeback
versus the Rams on Sunday, but they couldn't
get the field goal to tie up the contest. |
30 |
Vince
Young went 10-of-21 for 63 yards passing,
zero TDs, and one INT versus Indy, but he
did run for a score. |
31 |
Jon Kitna was picked off
three times in their loss to the Vikings
last week. Have a fighting chance vs. the
Bills. |
32 |
Andrew
Walter and Marques Tuiasosopo were each
picked off twice as the Raiders remain winless
on the year. |
