week 4 2006 power rankings
Each week during the heart
of the NFL season, and once or twice during
the NFL Preseason, we'll gather the troops around
the roundtable and hash out the NFL Power rankings.
We check out the stats, looks at the records,
and, most importantly, we take a close, close
look at the heart of each team. We encourage
you to come back each week and see how the NFL
Power Rankings have changed. NFL Power Rankings
will be updated by Wednesday every week. Be
sure to visit our home page for more articles
and NFL analysis. Its with this knowledge that
we can then deliver to you The
NFL Power Rankings!
With the NFL week 3 behind
us, it's time to check in with the Week 4 NFL
Power Rankings.

On Football's 2006 NFL Power Rankings |
This week's NFL Power rankings were determined
by a poll of WageronFootball staff -- writers
Q. Smyth, D. Bachman, and M. Pool. |
The Indianapolis Colts took care of the division
rival Jacksonville Jaguars last week to stay atop
the NFL Power Rankings for Week 4. Indy is one
of seven unbeaten teams in the league after three
weeks - and six of them make up the top six spots
in the current edition of the rankings. The seventh,
the New Orleans Saints, still have something to
prove, and they're back. If the Saints remain
undefeated after Week 4's action, they'll then
make a case for a Top 10 berth.
Not only are the Colts 3-0 straight up on the
season, but they're also 3-0 against the spread.
Only four other teams are currently unbeaten
ATS this year - the Cincinnati Bengals, the
San Diego Chargers, the Minnesota Vikings, and
the Saints. On the flip side, five teams have
yet to pick up an ATS win for their supporters
in 2006 - the Carolina Panthers, the Miami Dolphins,
the Arizona Cardinals, the Oakland Raiders,
and the Houston Texans. So if you have been
placing bets on any of those five teams so far
this season, your bankroll has probably been
taking a bit of a hit.
Here is the Week 4 edition of the NFL Power
Rankings.

Peyton Manning didn't have
great passing numbers in their win over
the Jags, but he did manage to run for a
score. |
2 |
Carson
Palmer threw for under 200 yards versus
the Steelers, but his four TD passes gave
them the victory. |
3 |
Scored 42 points in a win
over the Giants on Sunday, but will now
be without Shaun Alexander for a few weeks. |
4 |
Not only
did they run their mark to 3-0 last week,
but they get to play the Seahawks minus
Alexander this week. |
5 |
Come off a bye week to play
a game in Baltimore, which will be by far
the best team they've played this year. |
6 |
Scored
12 points in the fourth quarter Sunday to
top the Browns 15-14, and remain one of
the unbeaten teams. |
7 |
Late TD against the Colts
made it interesting, but they still came
up short. Byron Leftwich needed to be better. |
8 |
Jake Plummer
got the job done versus the Pats (15-of-30
for 256 yards, two TDs, no INTs) to calm
Broncos fans. |
9 |
Managed only a field goal
in their Monday loss to the Saints, as their
running game was pretty much shut down. |
10 |
Had little
trouble beating the 49ers last week, with
Donovan McNabb going 18-of-33 for 296 yards
and two TDs. |
11 |
Tom Brady threw an incredible
55 passes versus Denver on Sunday. Too bad
only one was for a TD in the loss. |
12 |
Have a
bye in Week 4, so they should be able to
hold onto their position in the Top 10 through
the next rankings. |
13 |
Will probably be without
Terrell Owens when they play this week,
but against the lowly Titans that might
not matter. |
14 |
Their
win over the Falcons was their best yet,
but they'll be in tough on the road against
the Panthers this week. |
15 |
Ran into the Bears last
week, and came away with a loss. Should
have an easier time this week against the
Bills. |
16 |
Eli Manning
threw three TD passes in the fourth quarter
against Seattle Sunday. Unfortunately, they
were down 42-3. |
17 |
Held on for a 16-14 road
win over the Cardinals last week, with Torry
Holt picking up 120 yards and a touchdown. |
18 |
It wasn't
easy, but they finally picked up their first
win of the season by topping the Bucs last
week. Saints up next. |
19 |
How'd they get to be 2-1
after three games? Easy - they've already
played the Titans and the Bills this season. |
20 |
Managed
to beat Houston for their first win last
week. Clinton Portis had two TDs, and Ladell
Betts ran for 124 yards. |
21 |
Daunte Culpepper threw for
only 168 yards (with no TDs) against the
Titans last week, but they still got the
win. |
22 |
Three
INTs by Kurt Warner in last week's loss
started up the QB controversy, but don't
expect Matt Leinart just yet. |
23 |
Buffalo's key offensive
players all had good games on Sunday versus
the Jets, but they still ended up with a
loss. |
24 |
Come off
a bye week to take on the 49ers. Starting
QB Trent Green will be sidelined with his
concussion again. |
25 |
Alex Smith threw for 293
yards and a touchdown (with no INTs) versus
the Eagles, but they still fell well short. |
26 |
It took
a game versus Detroit to finally get them
into the win column. Brett Favre threw for
340 yards and three TDs. |
27 |
Still winless, and Chris
Simms could be lost for the year after having
his spleen removed. Have a bye in Week 4. |
28 |
Charlie
Frye engineered two TD drives against the
Ravens in the second quarter Sunday, but
was otherwise blanked. |
29 |
Jon Kitna wasn't bad in
their loss to the Packers - 25-of-40 for
342 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. |
30 |
Fell to
0-3 with their loss to the Dolphins on Sunday.
Kerry Collins went 19-of-33 for 269 yards,
one TD, two INTs. |
31 |
Will need to win at some
point if they want to get out of the basement.
Could they get past the Dolphins this week? |
32 |
Dropped
a spot in the rankings on a bye week, thanks
to the Packers' win. Have the Browns coming
up this week. |
