Power Rankings.

On Football's 2006 NFL Power Rankings |
This week's NFL Power rankings were determined
by a poll of WageronFootball staff -- writers
Q. Smyth, D. Bachman, and M. Pool. |
The San Diego Chargers have now won seven games
in a row, and they easily retained the top spot
in this week's edition of the NFL Power Rankings.
The Chargers pounded the Denver Broncos at Qualcomm
Stadium on Sunday afternoon, getting 103 yards
and three touchdowns on the ground from LaDainian
Tomlinson in the 48-20 victory. Philip Rivers
went 16-of-23 for 279 yards in that win, throwing
two touchdown passes to Antonio Gates. Lorenzo
Neal ran for the other Chargers touchdown. A 20-point
outburst in the fourth quarter sealed the big
victory for San Diego.
And with last week's No. 2 and No. 3 teams
both losing on Sunday there's a bit of a shakeup
at the top of the rankings. The Indianapolis
Colts and the New England Patriots both fell
down the list after losing to the Jacksonville
Jaguars and the Miami Dolphins, respectively,
on the weekend. Indianapolis and New England
are both still looking like good bets to win
their divisions and make the playoffs this season
(they both have two-game leads), but the poundings
they took in Week 14 have to be concerning.
They'll be looking to bounce back with big wins
this weekend
Here is the Week 16 edition of the NFL Power
Rankings.

LaDainian Tomlinson ran
for 199 yards and two touchdowns in their

Had to
rely mostly on Kyle Boller against the Browns,
and he led them to a 27-17 home win over
the division rival. |
|
3 |
|
|
Answered some of their critics
by easily beating the Bengals on Monday
night, but they still trail the Chargers. |
|
4 |
|
|
Ugly display
by the Bears' vaunted defense on the weekend,
as they gave up 31 points and were forced
into OT. |
|
5 |
|
|
Found the Texans to be very
easy pickings on Sunday, but they still
haven't been able to clinch the AFC East
title. |
|
6 |
|
|
Only 207
yards and no TD passes for Drew Brees in
the loss to the Redskins, but they're the
NFC South champs. |
|
7 |
|
|
Terrell Owens caught five
balls for 96 yards in their win over the
Falcons, and he also caught a fine for spitting. |
|
8 |
|
|
Carson
Palmer couldn't get much going against the
Colts on Monday, and they failed to improve
their playoff shot. |
|
9 |
|
|
Who needs Donovan McNabb?
Jeff Garcia led them to another victory,
and now they're looking good for the playoffs. |
|
10 |
|
|
Jay Cutler
led them to a victory over the Cardinals,
throwing for 261 yards and two touchdowns
in the big win. |
|
11 |
|
|
The Jets are sticking around
in the AFC playoff race; after beating the
Vikings on the road they're now at 8-6. |
|
12 |
|
|
Kept turning
the ball over in their loss to the Titans
on the weekend, and they handed the Colts
the division title. |
|
13 |
|
|
Vince Young didn't do much
against the Jaguars on Sunday, but the Titans
found other ways to score in the win. |
|
14 |
|

Climbed
back up to the .500 mark with a win over
the Panthers on Sunday, despite just 140

|
15 |
|
|
Allowed three fourth-quarter
touchdowns versus the Niners on Sunday,
and failed to clinch the NFC West title. |
|

It's unlikely
that the Bills will make the playoffs, but
they still have an outside shot after blanking
Miami on Sunday. |
|
17 |

Eli Manning couldn't get
the job done again on Sunday, and now they're

passing from Michael Vick versus the Cowboys
- four TD tosses - but the loss dropped
them to .500. |

losing to the Chargers. Trent Green threw
for just 185 yards, zero TDs, and one INT. |

the Seahawks. They still have a chance at

ended with their loss to the Bills on the
weekend. Joey Harrington was picked off
twice. |

Favre threw zero touchdown passes and three
interceptions versus the Lions, but somehow
they still won. |
|
23 |
|
|
Steven Jackson ran for 127
yards and two touchdowns as they topped
the Raiders and got back into the win column. |
|
24 |
|
|
The Brad
Johnson experiment isn't going into the
books as a success; have to make a QB move
in the offseason. |
|
25 |
|
|
Got a second-quarter field
goal from John Kasay Sunday afternoon, but
nothing else in their bad loss to the Steelers. |
|
26 |
|
|
Upset
the Saints on the weekend to get their fifth
victory of the season. Ladell Betts rushed
for a game-high 119. |
|
27 |
|
|
No touchdowns and two interceptions
for Matt Leinart against the Broncos. Edgerrin
James ran for a Cards score. |
|
28 |
|

picked off twice. |
