NFL
week 8 2006 power rankings
Each week during the heart
of the NFL season, and once or twice during
the NFL Preseason, we'll gather the troops around
the roundtable and hash out the NFL Power rankings.
We check out the stats, looks at the records,
and, most importantly, we take a close, close
look at the heart of each team. We encourage
you to come back each week and see how the NFL
Power Rankings have changed. NFL Power Rankings
will be updated by Wednesday every week. Be
sure to visit our home page for more articles
and NFL analysis. Its with this knowledge that
we can then deliver to you The
NFL Power Rankings!
With the NFL week 7 behind
us, it's time to check in with the Week 8 NFL
Power Rankings.

On Football's 2006 NFL Power Rankings |
This week's NFL Power rankings were determined
by a poll of WageronFootball staff -- writers
Q. Smyth, D. Bachman, and M. Pool. |
There aren't any changes at the very top of the
NFL Power Rankings this week, as the Chicago Bears
and the Indianapolis Colts continue to hold down
the top two positions on the list. The Bears are
coming off a bye week (and all reports indicate
that they were impressive during their week off),
while the Colts had no trouble dispatching the
Washington Redskins 36-22 on Sunday. These last
two unbeaten teams will both be in action this
weekend, with the Bears taking on the San Francisco
49ers at home, and the Colts travelling west for
a road game against the Broncos.
If the Broncos can find a way to get past
Peyton Manning and the Colts this weekend at
Invesco Field, they'll be able to move even
further up the list. And who knows, if the Bears
somehow get upset by the lowly 49ers as well,
we could see Denver in the No. 1 position at
this point next week.
Here is the Week 8 edition of the NFL Power
Rankings.

Was that Monday night squeaker
against the Cards supposed to be their letdown
game, but they won anyway? |
2 |
Peyton
Manning had a field day against the Redskins
on Sunday: 25-of-35 for 342 yards and four
touchdowns. |
3 |
Didn't do that much against
the Browns on Sunday, but didn't really
have to. Will need to score to beat the
Colts. |
4 |
Tom Brady
was held under 200 yards passing by the
Bills on Sunday, but he still threw two
touchdown strikes. |
5 |
How far up the list are
the Saints going to go? Beating Baltimore
at home this weekend keeps them in the Top
5. |
6 |
Jump up
two more notches on the list after beating
Dallas on Monday night. Will host Tampa
Bay this weekend. |
7 |
Managed to stay over the
.500 mark by beating the Panthers in Cincinnati,
but the defense did the heavy lifting. |
8 |
LaDainian
Tomlinson tossed a touchdown pass in the
fourth quarter Sunday, but their late rally
came up too short. |
9 |
Is Michael Vick a passer
now? He threw for 232 yards and a big four
touchdowns versus Pittsburgh on Sunday. |
10 |
Fell to
4-3 after getting shut out by the Bengals
in the second half on Sunday. DeShaun Foster
ran for just 59 yards. |
11 |
Not only was their loss
last week bad news for the Seahawks, but
Matt Hasselbeck is out with a sprained MCL. |
12 |
Beat up
the Seahawks 31-13 last week, with Chester
Taylor rushing for 169 yards and a touchdown
in the victory. |
13 |
Lost to the Panthers just
prior to their Week 7 bye. Will be looking
to bounce back in New Orleans this weekend. |
14 |
Losing
to the Seahawks two weeks ago was a disappointment.
Return from a bye week to play the Chargers. |
15 |
Were blanked in the first
half against the Buccaneers last week, and
21-point second half wasn't enough to win. |
16 |
Byron
Leftwich went just 14-of-28 for 125 yards
in their loss to the Texans. We still don't
believe that it happened. |
17 |
Drew Bledsoe was yanked
at halftime against the Giants on Monday.
Get ready for the Tony Romo era in Dallas. |
18 |
Ben Roethlisberger
suffered a concussion in the Steelers' Week
7 loss to Atlanta. What's next for Big Ben,
scurvy? |
19 |
Damon Huard got the job
done in their win over the Chargers: 15-of-27
for 232 yards passing, with two touchdowns. |
20 |
Moved
over the .500 mark by beating the Lions
at home Sunday. Leon Washington ran for
129 yards and two scores. |
21 |
Bruce Gradkowski threw for
just 104 yards (and zero touchdowns) against
Philly, but they still got the victory. |
22 |
Scored
17 points in the fourth quarter on Sunday
in their upset of the Jaguars. David Carr
had two TD passes. |
23 |
Scored two touchdowns in
each of the final two quarters to get past
the Dolphins last week. Cardinals up next. |
24 |
Actually
led the Colts 14-13 at halftime on Sunday,
but then someone must've reminded them they're
no good. |
25 |
They're a huge underdog
against the Bears this week (at Soldier
Field no less). Are looking to play the
spoiler. |
26 |
Not a
great week for J.P. Losman in their loss
to the Patriots: 16-of-25 for 193 yards,
zero touchdowns, one INT. |
27 |
The Titans come of a bye
week to host the Texans on Sunday. Why isn't
that one the featured Sunday nighter? |
28 |
Still
stuck on one win after losing on the road
to the Jets last week. Jon Kitna threw three
TD passes, and two INTs. |
29 |
Another week, another loss
for the Dolphins, who are the year's biggest
disaster. Also have failed to cover in '06. |
30 |
Fired
their offensive coordinator after Sunday's
loss to Denver. Next on the chopping block:
the entire offense. |
31 |
Time to break up the Raiders?
Somehow got a victory on Sunday, holding
the Cardinals to just three field goals. |
32 |
A big
drop for one loss? Yes it is, but the Cards
deserve it after robbing us of a chance
for a team to reach 0-16. |
