week 10 2006 power rankings
Each week during the heart
of the NFL season, and once or twice during
the NFL Preseason, we'll gather the troops around
the roundtable and hash out the NFL Power rankings.
We check out the stats, looks at the records,
and, most importantly, we take a close, close
look at the heart of each team. We encourage
you to come back each week and see how the NFL
Power Rankings have changed. NFL Power Rankings
will be updated by Wednesday every week. Be
sure to visit our home page for more articles
and NFL analysis. Its with this knowledge that
we can then deliver to you The
NFL Power Rankings!
With the NFL week 9 behind
us, it's time to check in with the Week 10 NFL
Power Rankings.

On Football's 2006 NFL Power Rankings |
This week's NFL Power rankings were determined
by a poll of WageronFootball staff -- writers
Q. Smyth, D. Bachman, and M. Pool. |
The top four teams in the NFL Power Rankings have
all been mixed around this week, with the Indianapolis
Colts taking over the top spot on the list from
the Chicago Bears. The Colts, of course, staked
their claim on the No. 1 ranking by beating the
New England Patriots on Sunday night. The Bears,
meanwhile, fell out of the ranks of the unbeaten
by getting pounded by the weakling Miami Dolphins
in Sunday's biggest upset. Chicago now slips to
No. 2 in this week's edition of the rankings,
but a second straight loss could see them fall
completely out of the Top 5.
The Denver Broncos move up to spot No. 2 this
week, while the New England Patriots drop to
No. 4. Four other 6-2 teams take up the next
four positions on the list, with the New York
Giants, San Diego Chargers, Baltimore Ravens,
and New Orleans Saints all still in the hunt
for one of the top two seeds in their respective
conferences. Of those teams, the Giants have
the best chance to jump up the rankings next
week, but their defense is going to have to
get healthy really fast; they have a home game
against the Bears coming up on Sunday night,
and a win in that contest could move them up
the rankings.
Here is the Week 9 edition of the NFL Power
Rankings.

Could be due for a letdown
game this week, but it'd have to be a pretty
big letdown for them to lose to the Bills. |
2 |
Bounced
back from a loss by taking care of the Steelers
on the weekend. Jake Plummer threw three
TD passes. |
3 |
Is Rex Grossman going to
be their weak link? The QB went just 18-of-42
for 210 yards (and three INTs) in their
loss. |
4 |
Beating
the Colts (and moving up in the conference)
would've been nice, but they're still in
charge of the AFC East. |
5 |
LaDainian Tomlinson carried
them to a win over Cleveland on Sunday,
picking up 172 yards and three touchdowns. |
6 |
Needed
a fourth-quarter touchdown to get past the
Texans. Were they looking ahead to the big
Bears matchup? |
7 |
Not only did they take care
of the Bengals 26-20 on the weekend, but
the Steelers have imploded this season. |
8 |
The Saints
kept marching with an easy 31-14 road win
over the Buccaneers last week. Are now 5-1
in the NFC. |
9 |
Michael Vick ran for 80
yards versus the Lions, but he threw for
just 163 yards and was picked off twice
in the loss. |
10 |
Pounded
the visiting Titans 37-7 at home Sunday
afternoon, with David Garrard throwing three
touchdown passes. |
11 |
Damon Huard completed only
10 passes for 148 yards on the weekend,
but the three TD tosses gave them the win. |
12 |
Replacements
got the job done against Oakland: Maurice
Morris ran for 138 yards, Seneca Wallace
had a TD pass. |
13 |
A 10-point fourth quarter
made the final score respectable, but losing
to the Ravens really hurt their division
chances. |
14 |
They're
still in the thick of things in a weak NFC,
but they can't afford a MNF loss to the
Bucs this week. |
15 |
Terrell Owens had a key
dropped pass as the Cowboys were beaten
by the 'Skins. Tony Romo had two TD strikes. |
16 |
Will drop
below the .500 mark if they can't get past
the Redskins on Sunday. Are coming off a
bye week. |
17 |
Dropped to the .500 mark
with their loss to the Chiefs on Sunday.
Marc Bulger threw for 354 yards in the defeat. |
18 |
Shut down
on the weekend by the vaunted defense of
the . . . 49ers? A Ryan Longwell FG was
their only score. |
19 |
If they have any designs
on winning the AFC East, beating the Patriots
this week would be a good start. |
20 |
Scored
10 points in the fourth quarter to get past
the Cowboys on Sunday, with a Nick Novak
FG sealing the win. |
21 |
Can you pick up a win when
your quarterback throws for only 102 yards?
The Bills managed to do it on Sunday. |
22 |
Brett
Favre threw for almost 200 more yards than
J.P. Losman on the weekend, but the Packers
still got the loss. |
23 |
Alex Smith versus the Vikings:
13-of-21 for 105 yards, with no touchdowns
and one interception. And a victory. |
24 |
Ben Roethlisberger
actually had a huge passing day versus Denver
(433 yards), but was picked off three times. |
25 |
Shocked everyone by pounding
the (previously undefeated) Bears on Sunday,
but their season is still in the tank. |
26 |
Who woke
up the Lions? Kevin Jones rushed for 110
yards and scored two touchdowns in their
win over Atlanta. |
27 |
Two straight losses has
them back down in these depths. Have yet
to win a game versus a division opponent
in '06. |
28 |
Dropped
back down with their loss to the Giants
on the weekend. Another wasted year in Houston. |
29 |
Vince Young had one (fourth
quarter) TD strike against the Jags last
week, but was also intercepted three times. |
30 |
Kudos
to Phil Dawson for kicking six field goals
Sunday. Now about the rest of the Cleveland
Browns offense . . . |
31 |
So much for the winning
streak. Andrew Walter went just 16-of-35
for 166 yards in their Monday Night Football
loss. |
32 |
Coming
off a bye week to play the Cowboys in their
own stadium. Only team with under two victories
this season. |
