NFL
week 2 2006 power rankings
Each week during the heart
of the NFL season, and once or twice during
the NFL Preseason, we'll gather the troops around
the roundtable and hash out the NFL Power rankings.
We check out the stats, looks at the records,
and, most importantly, we take a close, close
look at the heart of each team. We encourage
you to come back each week and see how the NFL
Power Rankings have changed. NFL Power Rankings
will be updated by Wednesday every week. Be
sure to visit our home page for more articles
and NFL analysis. Its with this knowledge that
we can then deliver to you The
NFL Power Rankings!
With the NFL week 1 behind
us, it's time to check in with the Week 2 NFL
Power Rankings.

On Football's 2006 NFL Power Rankings |
This week's NFL Power rankings were determined
by a poll of WageronFootball staff -- writers
Q. Smyth, D. Bachman, and M. Pool. |
It was no Ben Roethlisberger, no problem for the
Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1, as a solid performance
from Charlie Batch guided them to a 28-17 victory
over the Miami Dolphins. Whether Batch will get
another shot as the starter for the Steelers this
week remains to be seen, but for now his efforts
have kept Pittsburgh atop the NFL Power Rankings.
Moving up to No. 2 this week are the Indianapolis
Colts, who won last week's Manning Bowl by a final
score of 26-21.
The Seattle Seahawks remain at No. 3 this week,
after an unimpressive 9-6 road victory over
the Detroit Lions in their season opener. Matt
Hasselbeck went a solid 25-of-30 for 210 yards
for the Seahawks in that win, but kicker Josh
Brown accounted for all the team's points in
the contest. The Cincinnati Bengals and the
Jaguars round out the Top 5, while the Carolina
Panthers fall bigtime in this edition after
getting bounced by the Atlanta Falcons.
Here is the Week 2 edition of the NFL Power
Rankings.

1 |
Big Ben wants to return
on Monday night, but whether he'll play
in Week 2 won't be decided until later in
the week. |
2 |
Jumped
up two spots on the list this week after
the elder Manning topped the younger one
in their Sunday battle. |
3 |
Offense wasn't expected
to be a problem in Seattle, but they went
out and traded for WR Deion Branch anyway. |
4 |
Carson
Palmer only threw for 127 yards in their
Week 1 contest, but Rudi Johnson ran for
96 yards and a score. |
5 |
Scored a couple of fourth-quarter
touchdowns to get past the Cowboys last
week. Might have started out too low. |
6 |
Steve
McNair's Baltimore debut was a non-story;
the Ravens' defense did all the work in
their win over Tampa Bay. |
7 |
Warrick Dunn rushed for
132 yards in their win over the Panthers,
and their defense only allowed two field
goals. |
8 |
Blanked
the Packers at Lambeau Field in their opener,
so the solid performance from Rex Grossman
was just icing. |
9 |
LaDainian Tomlinson carried
them over the Raiders last week: 131 rush
yards on 31 attempts, with a touchdown. |
10 |
Won their
opener - although they needed a fourth-quarter
safety to win. |
11 |
Donovan McNabb was solid
versus the Texans in Week 1: 24-of-35 for
314 yards passing, with three TD strikes. |
12 |
Pounded
by the Falcons 20-6 at home in Week 1. Another
outing like that, and the bandwaggoners
will get antsy. |
13 |
Cut-ler. Cut-ler. Jake Plummer
was intercepted three times in their loss
to the Rams, throwing for just 138 yards. |
14 |
Yes, they
lost in Week 1, but no one really expected
them to top the Colts |
15 |
Terrell Owens had a touchdown
for the Cowboys in Week 1, but it came at
the very end of their loss to Jacksonville. |
16 |
Time to
start worrying in Miami? Daunte Culpepper
went 18-of-37 for 262 yards with two interceptions
in Week 1. |
17 |
Brad Johnson barely completed
50% of his passes against the Redskins,
but the Vikings still started the year 1-0. |
18 |
Were the
beneficiaries of a poor Jake Plummer performance
in Week 1 - and got 121 yards from Steven
Jackson. |
19 |
Kurt Warner must like the
desert air - the veteran QB went 23-of-37
for 301 yards and three touchdowns in Week
1. |
20 |
Maybe
the preseason results meant something after
all? Will be better once Clinton Portis
is back to full health. |
21 |
Chris Simms couldn't get
anything going against the Ravens in Week
1 - throwing for three INTs and 133 yards. |
22 |
Trent
Green's nasty head injury has him out of
the lineup indefinitely. Can Damon Huard
perform as the top guy? |
23 |
Chad Pennington's job is
safe: 24-of-33 for 319 yards and two touchdowns
in their Week 1 win over the Titans. |
24 |
Yes, they
only beat Cleveland, but they're still 1-0.
And Reggie Bush looks like he'll have no
trouble in the NFL. |
25 |
Only gave up three fields
goals versus Seattle, but only scored two
field goals themselves to start the year
0-1. |
26 |
Almost
pulled off an upset versus the Patriots
in their season opener, but were held scoreless
in the second half. |
27 |
Lost their opener to the
Eagles. Andre Johnson was the team's lone
bright spot, picking up 101 receiving yards. |
28 |
Quarterback
Charlie Frye was their top rusher on Sunday
- want any other reasons why they started
out 0-1? |
29 |
Vince Young saw a bit of
action in their Week 1 loss, and tossed
one INT. Kerry Collins was picked off twice. |
30 |
Alex Smith
wasn't bad at all in their Week 1 loss to
the Cards; the 49ers' defense, though, blew
the game early. |
31 |
Are they regretting the
Aaron Brooks signing yet? Threw for 68 yards
and was sacked seven times on Monday. |
32 |
Wait,
did Brett Favre retire after all? Veteran
QB went 15-of-29 for 170 yards, no TDs,
and two INTs in Week 1. |
