fantasy FOOTBALL - Week 16 hot & not players
Hot & Not Following Week
15's NFL Games...
If you are in need
of a HOT fantasy football player
these Top Hot players for the week should help
you out if they're in your lineup. If you need
to dump a lame duck on your team, these NOTS
should be them. Fantasy Football always favors
the prepared mind. The more research you do,
and the more HOT players you
have to choose from on your team, the better
your odds are of winning your fantasy football
league outright this year. We also try in this
column to bring you the "fringe" players
who you might be able to plug into your lineups,
or of course drop from your squad.

WEEK 16 FANTASY FOOTBALL HOT & NOT
PLAYERS |
1. Jeff Garcia |
HOT
QUARTERBACKS
Garcia should
keep on rolling against a Dallas secondary
in the midst of a late season collapse.
The Cowboys' once solid secondary has
been torched over the past three weeks
-- a ridiculous 924 passing yards and
11 touchdowns allowed -- and the unit
seems incapable of containing a Pop Warner
passing game let alone an Eagles team
fighting for a spot in the postseason. |
|
While Young has shown an uncanny knack
for pulling out wins, the rookie is still
far from being a viable fantasy option.
Young continues to struggle with his decision-making
in the pocket and will face consistent
pressure from an underrated Buffalo pass
rush. |
|
HOT
RUNNING BACKS
Benson's workload continues to increase,
and he now essentially has a regular red-zone
gig. That's big news, because Detroit's
run defense is in a world of hurt without
DTs Shaun Rogers and Shaun Cody, particularly
in power situations. |
|
Morris' fantasy potential rests entirely
on the health of starter RB Ronnie Brown
(hand). Early indications suggest that
Brown will return to the lineup Monday
night. If Brown does return, Morris has
no fantasy value. However, if Brown remains
in street clothes, Morris is a sneaky
fantasy option. |
3. Cedric Houston |
Firmly entrenched as the team's No.
1 back, Houston will get plenty of carries
Monday night but yards will be hard to
come by against a Miami defense surrendering
just 3.5 yards per carry. While Houston
is unlikely to gain any traction on the
ground, Eric Mangini won't abandon the
running game completely |
4. Maurice Jones-Drew |
While a matchup against an outstanding
New England run defense is daunting, Jones-Drew
should post solid numbers with starting
running back Fred Taylor limited by injury.
Taylor sat out almost all of last week's
game against Tennessee after tweaking
his hamstring and even if he is able to
play Sunday, he's unlikely to be anywhere
near 100%.
|
|
Dayne has an outstanding matchup against
a terrible Indianapolis run defense. The
Colts are giving up a remarkably bad 5.4
yards per carry and Dayne, while no superstar,
should have little problem breaking into
the second level and forcing the Colts secondary
to make tackles in the open field. |
|
HOT
WIDE RECEIVERS
In the best of times, Furrey would be
a quality flex start against a base cover
2 defense like Chicago's. Alas, these
are the worst of times in Detroit. The
run game is on life support without RB
Kevin Jones, and the offensive line isn't
giving nearly enough time to a quarterback
who is downright hapless without proper
protection. |
|
With openings among the team's wide receivers,
Hackett has emerged as one of QB Matt Hasselbeck's
favorite options in recent weeks. Hackett
has 12 catches for 191 yards and a TD over
the last two weeks and has developed a good
rapport with Hasselbeck.
|
|
Henderson is inconsistent, but his pure,
blinding speed make him a constant threat
-- more so this week than most. New York
often botches coverages, and the Giants
don't have a cover man who can run with
Henderson as it is.
|
|
HOT
TIGHT ENDS
Davis is going to be a good one, and
he's starting to show his chops. But after
two steps forward, it might be time for
one step back. TE Eric Johnson (knee)
could be healthy enough to return this
week and vulture a catch or two that otherwise
might have gone to Davis. |
|
HOT DEFENSES
No one wants to run on Minnesota's defense.
Or, more accurately, no wants to try.
The Vikings stop opposing run games in
their tracks, and Green Bay's -- which
counts on big contributions from a young
line that still is mastering a new scheme
-- figures to be no exception. |

WEEK 16 FANTASY FOOTBALL HOT & NOT
PLAYERS |
1. David Carr |
NOT
QUARTERBACKS
The erratic
Carr will serve as a game manager and
spend much of Sunday handing the ball
to RB Ron Dayne. Few teams bother to throw
against the Colts because their run defense
is so inviting which is fine with Houston
head coach Gary Kubiak who is determined
to cut down on Carr's mental mistakes
in the passing game. |
|
Don't count on Delhomme returning to help
out the Panthers. Carolina could use Delhomme
back in the lineup, but his thumb injury
easily could sideline him for another week. |
|
NOT
RUNNING BACKS
Jones has been placed on injured reserve
because of a Lisfranc-fracture dislocation
in his left foot that will require surgery
and could cause him to miss time in the
2007 season. The Lions will probably stay
in-house to replace Jones for the rest of
this season. |
|
While early indications are that Maroney
will play against Jacksonville, the banged-up
rookie -- torn rib cartilage is widely
reported though Bill Belichick obviously
refuses to confirm -- will be hard-pressed
to make a fantasy impact against an outstanding
Jacksonville run defense. |
3. Anthony Thomas |
The Bills will emphasize the run against
a terrible Tennessee run defense but with
starter RB Willis McGahee in the lineup,
Thomas will see too few carries to make
a fantasy impact. |
4. Kevan Barlow |
Barlow could re-enter the New York backfield
mix at any time, not that we're eager
to bet on his chances.
|
|
NOT WIDE
RECEIVERS
Will someone tell the rookie it's OK to
come back out and play? After scoring three
TDs and posting a couple of 100-yard performances
in his first five games, Jennings hasn't
turned either trick since. |
|
The only thing Gabriel does is prove how
bad the Raiders are. Gabriel got on the
field in his first game back with the Raiders
last week after being cut a week earlier
by the Patriots. Gabriel had two catches
for 31 yards and might be the team's second-best
receiver with Randy Moss and Alvis Whitted
injured. |
|
Williams' size could potentially pose
a problem for an undersized New England
secondary but in a scaled-back Jacksonville
passing game, the receiver is unlikely
to make a serious fantasy impact. |
|
NOT
TIGHT END
Clark (knee) could return for the final
game of the regular season, head coach
Tony Dungy told the team's official web
site.
|
|
NOT
DEFENSE
Cincinnati's dynamic offense should have
no problems racking up the points against
a disappointing Denver unit. |
|
Going against Oakland, Kansas City's defense
is a solid play. The Raiders, who have
been shut out a league-high three times,
have not scored more than 14 points in
their seven-game losing streak. The Chiefs'
defense/special teams generally doesn't
put up big fantasy numbers, but the Raiders
give this unit life.
