NFL SPORTSBOOKS FANTASY
FOOTBALL MATCHUP OF THE WEEK
Kickoff: 1:00 p.m., RCA Dome, Indianapolis, IN.
Weather: dome Jaguars QB Byron Leftwich
(ankle, questionable) has averaged 324 yards and two total
touchdowns in his past three starts, and is a nice option
against a Colts defense that surrenders an average of
293.6 yards per game. RB Fred Taylor rushed for 126 yards
in his last regular-season road game against the Colts,
and should receive 20-25 carries. WR Jimmy Smith should
dominate Nick Harper (elbow, questionable) and find the
end zone for the third consecutive time against Indianapolis.
Colts QB Peyton Manning has thrown two touchdown passes
in each of his past three games against the Jaguars, and
will look to WRs Brandon Stokley and Reggie Wayne all
afternoon. RB Edgerrin James should thrive, but Marvin
Harrison has only averaged 35.3 yards in his past three
games against Jacksonville.
Kickoff: 1:00 p.m., Cleveland Browns Stadium,
Cleveland, OH. Weather: AM showers, high 62, low 52.
Eagles QB Donovan McNabb will have time in the pocket
against a Browns front seven that has a mere nine sacks
in six games, so expect him to hit WR Terrell Owens for
a touchdown. The Browns have also surrendered eight rushing
touchdowns, so expect a nice stat line from RB Brian Westbrook.
K David Akers averages 10.6 points per game and is a must
start. Browns QB Jeff Garcia performs well at home, but
the Eagles front seven will put on constant pressure and
keep his numbers down. RB William Green will find it difficult
to run, so look for Butch Davis to utilize Lee Suggs more
often due to his prowess as a receiver out of the backfield.
WR Andre Davis (toe, questionable) has 293 yards and two
touchdowns in his past three games.
Kickoff: 1:00 p.m., Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte,
NC. Weather: AM showers, high 70, low 49. Chargers
RB LaDainian Tomlinson will thrive against a Panthers
front seven that allows an average of 143.4 rushing yards
with seven touchdowns in five games. QB Drew Brees wont
need to throw as often as Tomlinson runs wild, but he
should still hit TE Antonio Gates in the pass attack.
WR Keenan McCardell needs time to learn the offense but
should still receive a handful of snaps. Panthers QB Jake
Delhomme might be forced to throw the ball 30-40 times
with the status of RB Stephen Davis (knee, doubtful) in
the air, which would equate to solid numbers. WR Keary
Colbert is a nice sleeper option against CB Sammy Davis
and a Chargers defensive backfield that allows an average
of 272.3 yards with nine touchdowns in six games.
Kickoff: 1:00 p.m., ProPlayer Stadium, Opa Locka,
FL. Weather: partly cloudy, high 84, low 69.
Rams QB Marc Bulger might have a difficult road against
a Dolphins defense that remains formidable against the
pass. The 'Fins have not allowed a 100-yard wide receiver
in 16 consecutive games, but WRs Torry Holt and Isaac
Bruce are too valuable to reserve. Plus, the Rams have
at least one 100-yard receiver in 13 of their past 16
games. RB Marshall Faulk should find some success, but
the emergence of Steven Jackson will limit his stat line.
Dolphins QB Jay Fiedler should have decent support from
RB Sammy Morris against a Rams defense that surrenders
an average of 131.8 rushing yards per game, so WR Chris
Chambers should have several chances to make an impact.
TE Randy McMichael has posted 50-plus yards in five of
six games this season.
Kickoff: 1 p.m., Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome,
Minneapolis, MN. Weather: dome. This game could
turn into a barnburner, so Titans QB Steve McNair (sternum,
questionable) is a nice option against a Vikings defense
that surrenders an average of 280.2 passing yards with
seven touchdowns in five games. RB Chris Brown (shoulder,
questionable) will find success on the ground and keep
the defense honest, so McNair should have time in the
pocket and find WR Derrick Mason downfield. Vikings QB
Daunte Culpepper might be without WR Randy Moss (hamstring,
questionable), so Marcus Robinson and TE Jermaine Wiggins
should receive more looks from the field general. RB Mewelde
Moore will continue to start even with the return of Michael
Bennett (knee, questionable).
Kickoff: 4:05 p.m., Gillette Stadium, Foxboro,
MA. Weather: partly cloudy, high 54, low 40.
Jets QB Chad Pennington has one touchdown and two interceptions
in his past three games, and was intercepted five times
in his last regular-season game against the Patriots.
Expect the Jets to lean on RB Curtis Martin, who has six
100-yard performances against his former team. WR Santana
Moss is expected to return from an injured hamstring,
but he had a mere 69 yards and no touchdowns in two games
against New England last season. Patriots QB Tom Brady
will have the support of RB Corey Dillon on the ground,
so expect him to utilize play action and find WRs David
Patten and David Givens downfield. TE Daniel Graham will
also be involved, especially inside the Jets' 20-yard
line.
Kickoff: 4:15 p.m., Lambeau Field, Green Bay,
WI. Weather: AM clouds/PM sun, high 62, low 43.
Cowboys QB Vinny Testaverde is a nice sleeper option against
a Packers defense that has allowed the second-most passing
touchdowns (13) in the league. That bodes well for WRs
Keyshawn Johnson and especially Terry Glenn, who will
look to stretch the field against CB Al Harris. Packers
QB Brett Favre should be active against the Cowboys and
their vulnerable pass defense, which is without SS Darren
Woodson and CB Pete Hunter. The veteran will look to WR
Javon Walker often against inexperienced CB Jacques Reeves.
RB Ahman Green will no longer wear protective sleeves
on his arms to avoid fumbles, and should thrive against
a Cowboys front seven that surrenders an average of 123.3
rushing yards per game.
Kickoff: 1:00 p.m., M & T Bank Stadium, Baltimore,
MD. Weather: showers, high 59, low 51. Bills
QB Drew Bledsoe will feel constant pressure from the Ravens
front seven, and will receive little support from RB Travis
Henry (foot, questionable), who is expected to start.
WR Eric Moulds has a difficult task against CB Chris McAlister,
so the veteran's numbers could be less than impressive.
TE Mark Campbell has a touchdown in each if his past two
games. Ravens QB Kyle Boller has two games with fewer
than 100 passing yards, and will continue to be mediocre
unless TE Todd Heap (ankle, doubtful) can make a miraculous
return to the field. RB Chester Taylor will start in the
absence of Jamal Lewis (suspension), so consider him a
decent flex option in leagues with 12-plus teams.
Kickoff: 4:15 p.m., Network Associates Coliseum,
Oakland, CA. Weather: partly cloudy, high 67, low 51.
This contest has the potential to produce a ton of points,
so expect Saints QB Aaron Brooks to find success through
the air. RB Deuce McAllister should run wild against a
Raiders defense that surrenders an average of 138 rushing
yards per game, and will keep the silver and black honest.
WR Joe Horn has scored a touchdown in four of his past
five games and can use his experience to get open against
CB Phillip Buchanon. Raiders QB Kerry Collins has been
awful, but the Saints defense surrenders an average of
263 passing yards per game. When allowed time in the pocket,
the veteran will look to WR Ronald Curry (hamstring, questionable)
downfield. The Saints struggle against the run, so RB
Amos Zereoue is a nice No. 2 back or flex option.
Kickoff: 1 p.m., Raymond James Stadium, Tampa
Bay, FL. Weather: sunny, high 83, low 67. The
Bears won't name a starting quarterback until right before
kickoff, but neither Jonathan Quinn nor Craig Krenzel
warrant much consideration in Fantasy Football. With little
support from the pass, RB Thomas Jones could be in for
a difficult afternoon. WR David Terrell will also have
a hard time against CB Ronde Barber, who is one of the
more talented corners in the league. Buccaneers QB Brian
Griese has been impressive in his past two starts, and
will look to rookie WR Michael Clayton downfield on a
regular basis. Charles Lee (knee, doubtful) could be on
the sidelines, so Joe Jurevicius is expected to start
in his season debut. The Bears defense allows 139.6 rushing
yards per game, which makes RB Michael Pittman a decent
flex option in leagues with 12-plus teams.
Kickoff: 1:00 p.m., Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas
City, MO. Weather: sunny, high 71, low 52. Falcons
QB Michael Vick should have his second consecutive solid
performance this week against a Chiefs defense that has
surrendered 16 total touchdowns in five games. RB Warrick
Dunn should find success on the ground against a questionable
Chiefs front seven, which will create play-action chances
for Vick and his receivers. The status of WR Peerless
Price (hamstring, questionable) is up in the air, so WR
Brian Finneran might start and TE Alge Crumpler could
be even more involved in the offense. Chiefs QB Trent
Green will have the support of RB Priest Holmes on the
ground, which will allow time in the pocket to find WR
Eddie Kennison and TE Tony Gonzalez in the intermediate
and vertical pass attack.
Kickoff: 1 p.m., Giants Stadium, East Rutherford,
NJ. Weather: mostly cloudy, high 57, low 46. Giants
QB Kurt Warner should find success against the Lions defense,
which allows 258.6 passing yards with seven touchdowns
in five games. WR Amani Toomer will be his first option
and should dominate CB Fernando Bryant (groin, questionable).
RB Tiki Barber has rushed for 100-plus yards in three
of his past four games, so expect him to receive 20-25
carries. Lions QB Joey Harrington could have a difficult
time in the pass attack with the status of WRs Roy Williams
(ankle, questionable) and Az-Zahir Hakim (ankle, questionable)
up in the air. The Giants defense hasn't surrendered a
rushing touchdown in five games, so don't expect much
statistical success from rookie RB Kevin Jones in this
NFC contest.
Kickoff: 4:15 p.m., Sun Devil Stadium at Arizona
State University, Tempe AZ. Weather: sunny, high 82, low
60. Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck threw two touchdown
passes in his last regular-season road game against the
Cardinals, and will find similar success with the support
of RB Shaun Alexander. WRs Darrell Jackson and Koren Robinson
are good options against Dennis Green's defense, which
allows an average of 253 receiving yards per game. Cardinals
RB Emmitt Smith will have a difficult time against a formidable
Seahawks front seven, so expect QB Josh McCown to feel
constant pressure and have little time to find his receivers
downfield. FS Ken Hamlin and CB Marcus Trufant will look
to bounce back from consecutive bad performances, so WR
Larry Fitzgerald could be in for a tough afternoon.
