INTRO
I have absolutely no "tips"
to offer this week. Other than the fact that you
can return unopened DVDs, CDs, computer games, and
other electronics items to Best Buy for store credit.
So if Grandma got you that new Ashlee Simpson CD
because that's what all the kids are listening to,
you can stop trying to figure out who you are going
to re-gift it to.
The Grab Bag will rejoin you sometime in the next
couple months....this guy is taking a well deserved
siesta for a couple months. NO MORE FANTASY FOOTBALL
FOR ME........... depending on how New Year's Eve
goes.
I'm not kidding....but here is the last instalment
of the Grab Bag Week 17 NFL Fantasy Waiver Wire.
Some Tuesday Thoughts
Greg Jones, RB,
Jaguars (9 carries, 38 yards): He didn't get a whole
lot of work in place of the injured Fred Taylor,
but he did get the start. Jacksonville hurt its
playoff hopes with the loss, so Jones may get even
more looks next week.
Shaud Williams, RB, Bills (17
carries, 93 yards, 1 TD; 1 catch, -1 yards): He
was expected to start for Buffalo, but Willis McGahee
was healthy enough to go and put up huge stats.
However, there were still plenty of touches to go
around, especially after Buffalo put up a huge lead,
giving Williams a chance to make an impact.
Eric Parker, WR, Chargers (7 catches,
103 yards, 1 TD): With Keenan McCardell out, someone
other than Antonio Gates had to catch some passes,
so in comes Parker, who had his way with the Colts'
spotty defense.
Jon Kitna, QB, Bengals (20-32,
186 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT; 2 carries, 14 yards): He
played decently enough in place of the injured Carson
Palmer, just as many expected.
1. Patrick Ramsey, Redskins
Last Week’s Stats
19 comp.
29 att.
158 yds.
1 TD
2 rush yds.
Breakout Performer
Many fantasy leagues schedule a “loser bowl”
or “toilet bowl” in Week 17, in which
the two worst teams face each other. If you have
the unfortunate obligation to play in such a game,
consider acquiring Ramsey this week. He could be
a guy who can help you avoid being tagged with the
title of the worst team in your league. Ramsey will
face the Minnesota Vikings this week – a team
that’s allowed 11 passing touchdowns in the
last four games. He’s a lock for two touchdowns
this week. If you can live with that, you can live
with Ramsey.
1. Ladell Betts, Redskins
Last Week’s Stats
13 car.
43 yds.
0 rec.
0 yds.
0 TDs
Breakout Performer
Redskins starting RB Clinton Portis will miss the
final game of the regular season with a chest injury.
It’s a tough end to a tough season for the
former Broncos standout. While Portis starts healing
up for 2005, Washington will turn to backup Ladell
Betts to close out the 2004 season. Betts is likely
available on your waiver wire and could be poised
for a big performance in Week 17. He’ll face
a Minnesota Vikings defense that gives up about
126 yards on the ground per game.
Oh My Head Hurts -- Pass The Beer
Nuts
RAIDERS:If the Chiefs and the
Raiders would pool their defenses together they
might have enough talent to field an NFL level squad.
Nah, probably not. After losing the AFC Championship
game to the Patriots on the famous "tuck"
rule, getting jacked up by the coach he let go in
the Superbowl, and subsequent horrible seasons,
I just wonder how long before Al Davis goes Howard
Hughes on us.
JAGUARS: The Jags had a tough
schedule this season. I'm guessing they never envisioned
the Houston Texans as the team on that schedule
that would rip their hearts out and stomp on their
playoff dreams.
DREW BENNETT / BILLY VOLEK OWNERS:
Surprise! Jumping on these guys was a wild high
speed ride there for a few weeks. But the week 16
disappearing act was like somebody throwing a log
across the roller coaster track. A brutal end to
a thrilling ride.
DOLPHINS: The masses in Miami
are probably pretty happy to get Nick Saban, and
the owners weren't going to accept anybody else.
I'm always suspicious of a college coach making
the jump. I know Saban has NFL experience, but he
is a defensive guy taking over a team that already
has a decent defense but an offense that resembles
a waste water treatment plant sludge pool. A somewhat
curious move from where I stand. We shall see.
Reggie White
When the news
on ESPN broke Sunday morning of the death of Reggie
White, it was shocking. But even more shocking was
ESPN's ability to go into a lengthy coverage of
the story involving several people on the ESPN staff,
and pulled it off like they had rehearsed it. I
kick ESPN around pretty good most of the time but
that was a tasteful, fitting, tribute to one of
the all time greats.
