NFL Betting - Winning Super Bowl Strategies
by: Betus.com
The Super Bowl is the biggest
bet on sporting event in North America. Major
dollars will be wagered on the game and, if you're
planning on investing, there's a lot of strategies
that should be utilized.
Often bettors make decisions
based on a team's ability to score, while forgetting
about defense. It's so tempting to concentrate
on touchdown passes and rushing yards that bettors
can sometimes forget about what each team brings
to the field on defense. This can be a crucial
error.
A look at past Super Bowls
shows only three of the last eight champions have
allowed the opposition to score more than 20 points
and no winner in the past 27 years has given up
as many as 30 points.
Doing your homework is vital
in the world of sports betting. Past performance
is important, but doesn't always have an impact
on a game's line. Therefore, using against the
spread (ATS) trends can be much more helpful.
Here are several ATS trends that may build your
bankroll:
- Bears are 1-4 ATS in their
last 5 games after scoring more than 30 points
in their previous game.
- Bears are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following
a ATS win.
- Bears are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
- Colts are 4-0 ATS vs. a team with a winning
record.
- Colts are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 postseason
games as a favorite.
- Colts are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games.
- Colts are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games as a
road favorite.
Playing favoritism isn't
wise, because betting with your heart will kill
you in this business. If you're a Bears or Colts
fan it will be hard to bet against your team,
but don't let your heart keep you from cashing.
It is much smarter to select a club whose stats
are stronger versus wagering on a team because
they're your favorite.
The pointspread has closed
at a touchdown seven times in the history of the
Super Bowl and, in the majority of those cases,
the underdog has cashed. Teams favored by seven
points are 1-5-1 ATS in seven Super Bowls.
If you find the first half
line compelling, here's some things to consider:
history has proven selecting the favorite to cover
the first half line is profitable, but that may
not always be the case. Take a look at each team's
past performance in the first halves. Some teams
come out of the gate strong but fade, while others
struggle to turn it on until later in the game.
Bettors should compare the
agendas of each respective team, whether they
throw or run more in the first half, and their
defenses. Some teams are more conservative than
others and could opt for a field goal instead
of taking a chance at the end zone, which could
mean the difference between a 3-point or 7-point
lead.
If you decide on playing
the total, keep in mind: Six of the last ten Super
Bowls have played over. Defense may win championships
but it certainly hasn't stuffed the wallets of
under players.
