Eight weeks into the 2005 season
and we've most likely lost yet another bigtime top
10 fantasy stuf to season ending injury. Duante
Culpepper will undergo and MRI today sometime and
we'll know his fate. Mike Tice has openly talked
about how he fears the worse on what looks like
a season ending knee injury, on a brutal hit at
the knees by the Carolina D. While Culpepper's injury
topped the headlines for Week 8, there was plenty
more to talk about. Namely, Steve Smith, Tiki Barber,
Steven Jackson, Antonio Gates, Jake Plummer, Joey
Porter, and Marion Barber III. In my opinion though
these injuries are dominating the fantasy landscapes
this year. For tailbacks, we've seen McAllister,
Dillon, Julius Jones, Green and Carnell Williams
already miss time if in fact they are not already
on injured reserve. And just because the injuries
are historically extensive doesn't mean it hurts
any less. Oh yes, and this just in - we have over
half the NFL season left to play. In other news
Priest Holmes had his bell rung by rookie linebacker
Shawn Merriman in the third quarter on Sunday and
did not return to the game. He hadn't done anything
to write home about on the field up that point –
14 carries, 38 rushing yards and three catches for
15 yards. Larry Johnson, on the other hand, handled
six carries for 55 yards, including a 46-yard run.
For the season, Johnson has outrushed Holmes in
four of seven games. Who'd a thunk it?
Terrell Owens only had three catches
against Denver, but he appeased his fantasy owners
with 154 yards and a TD. Give Owens credit for always
finding his way into the end zone. Cheeseheads off
to Mr. Favre who has now assumed second place for
all-time career passes and yards in the NFL. Favre
has thrown 7264 times for 51,754 yards. That's over
29 miles worth of passes in his professional career.
Favre now trails only Dan Marino who set the bar
very high with 61,361 yards. Lastly, Steven Jackson
owners should be bowing at the feet of St. Louis
head coach Joe Vitt. Since Vitt took over for Mike
Martz, Jackson is averaging 20.7 carries a game,
an increase of 5.5 carries per week compared to
his workload average under Martz (15.2 carries).
Jackson finished with 200 yards from scrimmage (179
rushing yards) and a TD reception on Sunday. Here
are the studs and duds for NFL fantasy football
week 8:

FANTASY FOOTBALL STUDS - WEEK 8
J. Plummer, DEN
309 yds, 4 TD, 0 Int
J. Delhomme, CAR
341 yds, 3 TD, 0 Int
D. Brees, SDG
324 yds, 3 TD, 1 Int
K. Collins, OAK
238 yds, 3 TD, 1 Int
C. Palmer, CIN
237 yds, 3 TD, 1 Int
QB Reports:Fantasy Stud of the Week
- Our top QB of the week is definatly Jake
The Snake. Plummer completed 22-of-35 passes
for 309 yards and four TDs in Sunday's 49-21
win over the Eagles. He also scrambled once
for 22 yards. Plummer now has 12 TDs and three
INTs on the season and remains a solid Fantasy
QB and should remain a starter for owners
when the Broncos return from a bye week in
Week 10 at Oakland.
Does Jake Delhomme look for anyone else on
the field besides Steve Smith? Well only on
50% of the plays, the rest go to Smith the
top fantasy wideout this week. Delhomme and
Smith were in a zone all afternoon, as the
duo connected for over 150 yards and a touchdown
in the first half to build an insurmountable
lead. Delhomme is a solid play in Week 9 at
Tampa Bay unless your other option has a much
more favorable matchup.
Brees now has 13 TD passes on the season
and should now be considered among the upper
echelon of signal callers in Fantasy. Consider
him a solid starting option for Week 9 at
the Jets. As for his AFC west counterpart
Kerry Collins well he was the 11th rated fantasy
QB coming into week 8, well he's in the top
10 now with two TD passes to Porter. The Raiders
aren't to shabby a team after all.

Running Backs
Key
Stats
M. Barber, DAL
142 yds, 2 TD
T. Bell, DEN
107 yds, 2 TD
T. Barber, NYG
211 yds, 1 TD
C. Dillon, NWE
72 yds, 2 TD
S. Jackson, STL
200 yds, 1 TD
S. Davis, CAR
47 yds, 2 TD
F. Taylor, JAC
164 yds, 1 TD
Running Backs Report:Not one fantasy owner in the land
likes the dreaded phrase "running back
by committee". In fantasy football, who
wants sharing, especially in such a valuable
position? We want one guy to get the ball
all the time and get all the numbers. There's
no need for some backup or 1a starter to steal
the yards, or even worse, touchdowns. Yet
somehow there are a few teams where the committee
situation is working out: We've seen it in
Kansas City this year with Larry Johnson having
some nice days along with Priest Holmes. Stephen
Davis and DeShaun Foster have gone after it
this year, and now its Mike Anderson and Tatum
Bell. Both by the way are on pace for 1000
yd rushing campaigns. Now that I've depressed
you enough what do you think about the other
tandum or RBBC that is no longer a RBBC. Steven
Jackson has blown his up and missed the memo
about Marshall still getting on the field.
Jackson finished with 200 yards from scrimmage
(179 rushing yards) and a TD reception on
Sunday, made all the more impressive because
it came against a staunch Jacksonville defense.
Marion Barber III is trying to make Parcells
think carefully about whether or not he wants
to platoon the oft injured Julius Jones and
himself after his huge breakout game versus
the Cardinals. The Cowboys now head to the
bye week, which will give Jones an extra week
to recuperate. However, one has to wonder
how Marion Barber will fit into the mix going
forward after his second straight solid performance
(27 carries, 127 yards and two scores). In
New York the amped up Tiki Barber had two
huge touchdown runs escape him with last ditch
tackles otherwise he'd of surely been our
Stud of the Week. Having said that look for
Tiki to keep this up. Washington has a good
Defense. Tiki was just ON.
Lastly, and least importantly Fragile Fred
had a great day against the Rams Run-D, but
who doesn't have a great day against them.
In 2 weeks Alexander gets this mish-mash of
a horrible Defense in Seattle. Watch Out!
Fantasy
Wide Receivers
Key
Stats
J. Porter, OAK
123 yds, 2 TD
S. Smith, CAR
201 yds, 1 TD
E. Wilford, JAC
145 yds, 1 TD
T. Owens, PHI
156 yds, 1 TD
J. Galloway, TAM
149 yds, 1 TD
E. Moulds, BUF
125 yds, 1 TD
K. Curtis, STL
105 yds, 1 TD
E. Kennison, KAN
115 yds, 1 TD
Wideouts Report: My
two favorite plays of the day had to be Galloways
long TD run, and on what looks an ankle breaker
vs Champ Bailey - TO's long run vs the Broncos.
Mad skill is all I can say. You can hate TO,
but he's getting it done, this week on 3 catches.
Porter stepped up for the Raiders with Randy
Moss being injured again, and well he was
the only guy Collins had to throw to on some
plays, since Gabriel forgot to get off the
plane.
Wilford was open regularly against the Rams,
who managed to shut down primary receiver
Jimmy Smith. Someone had to step forward to
catch important passes for Leftwich, and it
was Wilford. He was the sixth-highest scoring
receiver in most leagues for Week 8.
Note: Anquan Boldin may miss significant
time after he re-injured the knee that kept
him out of six games a year ago. Boldin said
that his knee had been bothering him all week,
but that he experienced significant pain on
Sunday. An MRI is scheduled for Monday, and
Dennis Green hopes that his fears are not
confirmed with a full tear.
TIGHT
ENDS
Key
Stats
A. Gates, SDG
145 yds, 3 TD
T. Gonzalez, KAN
97 yds, 1 TD
B. Franks, GNB
73 yds, 1 TD
Tight Ends Report
- Week 8 - Battle of the Tight Ends
Part I was definatly won by Gates on Sunday.
He ran thru Chiefs, over Chiefs, and around
Chiefs. It was almost laughable. Gonzo did
his best to look decent and finally caught
a TD pass, his first of the year, but man,
is this ever getting ugly for KC. I don't
think they have a better D than last year
now. Gates, who caught three TD passes against
the Chiefs, overshadowed Gonzalez as the Chargers
beat the Chiefs. But even though Gates is
clearly the top tight end in fantasy football,
Gonzalez showed he is still one of the best.
Bubba Franks in my opinion is now a weekly
starter as well. Don't expect the Pack to
be having to many leads from here on out their
schedule only gets tougher, and Brett will
be slingin it.

FANTASY FOOTBALL WEEKLY DUDS - WEEK 8
Fantasy Dud News: Dud Of the Week:
Carnell Williams, Buccaneers: 13 carries,
20 yards; 1 catch, 5 yards. I put him in as
my #2 RB this week with the news that "he's
feeling better than ever" or so he said.
THANKS A LOT YOU MORON. You lost me my week.
If i'd known you were going to suck so bad
I'd a put in Mewelde Moore and won my week.
You suck Pinto Williams.
WR/TE
Nate Burleson, Vikings: 1 catch, 6 yards
Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Cardinals: 4 catches,
36 yards
Randy Moss, Raiders: 3 catches, 26 yards
Santana Moss, Redskins: 4 catches, 34 yards,
1 lost fumble
Jimmy Smith, Jaguars: 2 catches, 27 yards
Reasons to watch the Monday Night
Game:
Bill Cowher knows the Baltimore Ravens are
still dangerous even without injured defensive
stars Ray Lewis and Ed Reed.
Cowher and the Pittsburgh Steelers will try
not to underestimate the injury-depleted Ravens
when the teams meet for the first time this
season at Heinz Field.
The Steelers are coming off their biggest
victory of the season, beating AFC North-leading
Cincinnati on the road 27-13 on Oct. 23, while
the shorthanded Ravens lost to Chicago 10-6.
"We have to come in every time respecting
everybody we play," Cowher said. "Don't
worry about too much more than the opponent
we have this week."
Baltimore will be without Lewis and Reed,
two former NFL defensive players of the year,
from the defense that has allowed the second-fewest
yards in the NFL. Lewis aggravated a thigh
injury last week against the Bears and Reed
will miss his second successive game with
an ankle injury.
