Five weeks into the 2005 season
and we started out the day with only the Buccaneers,
Bengals, Redskins and Colts with undefeated records.
By the end of the day, it's just the Colts all alone
now with a 5-0 record. With the next two games against
the Rams and then at the Texans, the Colts should
be bringing a 7-0 record into their bye in week
eight. Well onto the week 5 Studs and Duds of NFL
Fantasy Football.

QB Reports:
Fantasy Stud of the Week - Tom Brady, QB,
Patriots (22-27, 350 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT).
He's going to the hall of fame, so lets just
induct him now ok? (Jim More Jr. Comments
after sunday's game).
Drew Bledsoe had a great day – 24-for-35,
289 yards, three TDs – against Philly.
The Eagles have been one of the toughest defenses
to throw on, and they employ two of the top
cornerbacks in the league in Lito Sheppard
and Sheldon Brown. But Bledsoe and company
attacked Philadelphia's secondary instead
of shying away from it. Minus their two injured
starting receivers, the Seattle passing game
looked very shaky heading into Week 5. But
Matt Hasselbeck stepped forth and was very
efficient and proved he can get the ball regularly
to secondary targets in a 37-31 victory at
St. Louis. Brett Favre remains a top-notch
fantasy QB. Seven TD passes in his past two
games says anyone who doubted Favre during
Green Bay's bad start were certainly wrong.
He remains a must-start fantasy QB in most
cases.
The numbers weren't there necessarily for
Kelly Holcomb (169 yards, 1 TD), but he did
get both Lee Evans and Eric Moulds involved
in the offense again, which means those receivers
are slightly safer to start in upcoming weeks.
Holcomb himself could make it into a lineup
if your in deep trouble at the QB position.
I won't sit here and try to waste a lot
of time explaining Josh McCown's second straight
near-400 yard passing day. I think it's as
simple as this: he has two great receivers
in Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona
struggles to run the football, and the team
was allowing 27.5 points per game coming into
Week 5.

Running Backs
Key
Stats
T. Bell, DEN
132 yds, 2 TD
S. Alexander, SEA
135 yds, 2 TD
N. Davenport, GNB
56 yds, 2 TD
C. Martin, NYJ
59 yds, 2 TD
K. Jones, DET
58 yds, 2 TD
S. Jackson, STL
139 yds, 1 TD
E. James, IND
147 yds, 1 TD
W. McGahee, BUF
91 yds, 1 TD
J. Lewis, BAL
112 yds, 1 TD
Running Backs Report:
Tatum Bell stepped up this week with
2 amazing runs for Denver. Did he just suplant
Anderson as the Denver Starting RB? We've
got to wait and see unfortunatly. Alexander
also had his usual big game for the Seahawks
who broke their 3 game losing streak versus
the Rams.
Damage Control: Deuce's MRI came back today
and its bad news for Deuce owners. He's out
for the year. Blaylock is out for the year
in New York as well, as is Najeh Davenport
who scored twice before leaving late in the
first half with a broken ankle, which likely
ends his season. Davenport definitely ran
with more authority than Ahman Green.
It's becoming very apparent that Kevin Jones
might never live up to the great preseason
hype that had some fantasy owners taking him
as early as the first round. Jones has yet
to reach the 90-yard mark in a game this year,
and he averaged just 2.2 yards per carry against
Baltimore on Sunday. But Jones did manage
to score twice against the Ravens. Fred Taylor
opened the game with a 41 yard touchdown run
on his first play but it was called back on
a holding penalty. Not to worry - Fred still
ended the game with 132 yards and of course
no score.
It has taken some time, but Jamal Lewis is
finally looking like a very good fantasy starter
again. Lewis rushed for a TD in Week 4, and
he averaged five yards per carry in a loss
at Detroit. Domanick Davis finally rekindled
last year when he gained 173 total yards AKA
"the entire offense". The Titans
had no real stars in the game outside of Bennett
(99 yards, 1 TD) and their best advantage
in the game was that they were not the Texans.

Wide Receivers
Key
Stats
T. Glenn, DAL
118 yds, 2 TD
S. Smith, CAR
119 yds, 2 TD
A. Bryant, CLE
83 yds, 2 TD
J. Jurevicius, SEA
137 yds, 1 TD
L. Fitzgerald, ARI
136 yds, 1 TD
T. Holt, STL
126 yds, 1 TD
A. Boldin, ARI
165 yds, 1 TD
Wideouts Report:
By the time Sunday rolled around, most leagues
had clued into Joe Jurevicius getting the
start in Seattle and had picked him up off
waivers. He didn't disappoint those teams
that decided to throw him into the starting
lineup, catching nine passes for 137 yards
and a TD. With word that WR Darrell Jackson
could be out for several weeks with a knee
injury, and Bobby Engram's status (ribs) still
in question, Jurevicius is going to continue
to be a factor. Jurevicius got through this
business trip to the most difficult city he
is forced to visit. He got past the sight
of the hospital where his son died. He caught
a touchdown pass and tossed the ball in Michael's
direction. He played this game like he plays
all games, with great dignity and professionalism.
With Braylon Edwards out the door opened
for Antonio Bryant to grab a couple of scores
against a supposedly good Bears defense. The
Falcons passing game actually looks to have
more zip with Matt Schaub under center instead
of the injured Michael Vick. That definitely
meant good thing for Alge Crumpler, but it
was also a boon to Brian Finneran, who had
a couple of long gains. Steve Smith is an
uber-stud that's all I have to say about him.
Josh McCown likely owns the starting job for
a while with a 394 yard, 2 TD game where he
only threw to Boldin (10-158, 1 TD) and Larry
Fitzgerald (9-136, 1 TD) and no one else.
Since there is virtually no rushing game for
the Cards, Fitzgerald and Boldin make wonderfully
consistent fantasy starters
TIGHT
ENDS
Key
Stats
D. Graham, NWE
119 yds, 1 TD
A. Crumpler, ATL
99 yds, 1 TD
C. Cooley, WAS
82 yds, 1 TD
B. Troupe, TEN
67 yds, 1 TD
J. Stevens, SEA
65 yds, 1 TD
Tight Ends Report
- Week 5 - The week of the Tight
End. The above 5 guys all showed up big in
their matchups this week, and I'm really liking
this Troupe guy. McNair looks to him first
in the red zone, that's just waaay to easy
to see. His numbers haven't quite thrilled
anyone yet, but Ben Troupe is quietly becoming
one of fantasy football's better tight ends.
Troupe caught a 10-yard TD pass on Sunday,
and now has three overall. It's also quite
evident that come redzone Brunell is looking
TE first in the Gibbs Offense.

& Duds Week 5
NFL
FANTASY FOOTBALL WEEKLY DUDS - WEEK 5
Fantasy Dud News: Duds Of
the Week : Donovan McNabb couldn't rebound
after some early struggles connecting with
receivers. However, with a bye week upcoming,
McNabb can get himself better and get his
game together for Week 7. It was an even worse
fantasy week for Brian Westbrook, who managed
just 36 total yards.
1. LT2 - What does LT have
up his sleeve in PrimeTime?? This guy has
all the talent to be the top fantasy points
producer for years to come.
2. Antonio Gates - With
the Steeler defense looking to shut down LT
perhaps Gates can take one to the house on
playaction. Troy Palamalou matches up pretty
well with Gatest though IMO.
3. Big Ben - With a balanced
attack featuring the 3 headed monster of Slick
Willie Parker, Duce Staley and Bettis, plus
wideouts Hines Ward and Randell El Big Ben
could see a high scoring game ahead of him.
He may have to win this game with his arm.
Have we seen that yet this year?
4. Matchup - Chargers defenders
are expected to be busy with the Steelers'
running game. Willie Parker carried the load
while Duce Staley and Jerome Bettis were injured.
With Staley and Bettis healthy, the backfield
is so crowded that Bettis could be inactive
Monday night. "They just beat the defending
champs and, conversely, they watched the film
of us losing to that same football team,"
Bettis said. "So they're going to have
a lot of confidence saying, 'We just smacked
around the team that just beat this team.'
You've got to think they'll have some confidence."
FAST FACTS: Cowher is 4-1
against Schottenheimer, with the loss coming
in the playoffs in 1993 while Schottenheimer
was with Kansas City. Cowher is 6-2 against
the Chargers, including a loss in the AFC
championship game following the 1994 season.
