Six weeks into the 2005 season and
we started out the day with only the Colts left
as an undefeated team. We'll find out how they do
tonight when they host the pass happy Rams on MNF.
(Preview).
2 overtime games in the morning and one (Atlanta/NO)
that was almost an overtime game. This week's action
was polluted with injured players and crazy finishes.
It was the kind of week and weekend that pushes
a fantasy football player's blood pressure way up.
Submitting a starting lineup this week was, for
many, a form of Russian roulette. With so many big-name
players on the injury report, deciding who to play
was a spin of the chamber. Of course one week after
I dump Stallworth from one league and Brooks from
another what do they do? Yup, that's right, make
my Studs and Duds list. Doh!

FANTASY FOOTBALL STUDS - WEEK 6
M. Brunell, WAS

J. Plummer, DEN

C. Palmer, CIN
272 yds, 2 TD, 0 Int
A. Brooks, NOR

T. Green, KAN

T. Brady, NWE

QB Reports:
The Redskins got an absolute MONSTER game
from Santana Moss this week: 10 catches for
173 yards and 2 td's. Moss has some cartoonish
jets. He and Mark Brunell are getting very
comfortable with each other and it is giving
the Redskins a nice weapon to add to Clinton
Portis. This Redskin squad is going to be
in the playoff mix and I really didn't expect
that. Mark Brunell could quite possibly be
up for NFL comeback player of the year at
this rate. With the 49ers and sometimes-leaky
Giants defenses ahead, Moss and Brunell should
continue to roll in the next two weeks.
Just when you expect Shanahan to come out
running the ball with his new 2 headed RB
monster Anderson and Bell, what does he do?
Yup you guessed it, he aired it out against
the beat up New England secondary. They suck
so bad they made The Snake look like John
Elway. New England basically are now a good,
not great team. Injuries have crushed them.
Denver on the other hand is the real deal.
They aren't Indianapolis good, but they are
easily a playoff team. If Jake keeps getting
great play calling from Shanahan this team
could go far. Shanahan calls the 2nd best
game in the NFL, right behind the Walrus in
Seattle.
Palmer (272, 2 TD) continues to be the magic
that had been missing for years. This guy
is flat out coming into his own, and should
be an AFC all star when the season is all
said and done. At this rate he gets the Bungles
into the playoffs to boot. Brooks - I hate
him. He's the now you see him now you don't
of the NFL, and so is his buddy Stallworth.
I dumped all Saints and won't pick up any
on a waiver wire ever again. Green can't find
Gonzo anymore and his stats were padded nicely
by 47 year old Priest Holmes' only good play
of the day, and as for Joe Montana...err Brady,
well he was decent in defeat.

Running Backs Report:
You could call this week the week of
the running backs. Subsitutes at the beginning
of the year, Bell, Pittman, Morris, Smith,
Pass all had huge games this week. Now while
they won't all be starters in Week 7 its worth
noting that you have to keep your fantasy
eye on all of the above RB's now that they've
posted some great stats in week 6. Great stats
show a coach that he can have confidence in
this or that player should the STUD go down
for a team.
Without a doubt the Fantasy Stud
of the Week is Shaun Alexander of
the Seahawks. He probably didn't get drafted
in to many leagues before Tomlinson, but,
he's making a case for it next year thats
for sure. Fantasy Stud of the Week numbers....
(22 carries, 141 yards, 4 TD): Alexander is
on a tear this year and 20 TD's is looking
like a piece of cake. I guess Seattle doesn't
really need any WR's, they can just run Shaun
into the dirt. Plus with the news that Engram
and Jackson will most likely be lost until
after the Hawks Bye week, expect Alexander
to carry the load in Week 7 versus the Cowboys
at Qwest Field. Alexander loves playing in
spotlight games. Kudos also to Maurice Morris,
who made it a two-some topping 100 yards rushing
on only 8 carries. Houston's D is just as
bad as their offense now. Or...is Seattle
O-Line just the best in the NFL??
For the last five seasons, there have been
no players more consistent than LaDainian
Tomlinson and Shaun Alexander. After the four
touchdown explosion on Sunday evening, Alexander
joined Tomlinson as the only two NFL running
backs that have ever rushed for 10 or more
touchdowns in five consecutive seasons. It's
no surprise that the duo went as the first
two picks in almost every draft that didn't
try to get slick with Peyton Manning. Tomlinson
was the first pick for most leagues and while
Alexander is an obvious great pick as well,
Tomlinson scored touchdowns rushing, receiving
and passing in the same game yesterday. He
also scored a touchdown for the 18th straight
game.
All week we read that Cedric Benson was going
to start for Thomas Jones. Assuredly, many
owners benched Jones and looked elsewhere.
But there was Jones on Sunday rolling up 89
yards and a couple touchdowns on the hapless
Minnesota Vikings. Just a side note. Atlanta:
This team is a gold mine of points for opposing
running backs. And a bad situation was made
worse this past week when run-stuffing linebacker
Edgerton Hartwell was lost for the season.
Curtis Martin will get his chance at this
group next week. Martin owners rejoice!
The Ricky Williams-Ronnie Brown debate will
go on another week. Williams had just five
carries for eight yards but six catches for
22. Brown had nine carries for 22 yards and
a score, along with two catches for 44. ...
Chris Chambers, of all people, led the Dolphins
with 25 rushing yards.

Wide Receivers
Key
Stats
S. Moss, WAS
173 yds, 2 TD
R. Smith, DEN
123 yds, 1 TD
S. Smith, CAR
123 yds, 1 TD
C. Johnson, CIN
135 yds, 1 TD
J. Galloway, TAM
96 yds, 1 TD
D. Stallworth, NOR
83 yds, 1 TD
E. Moulds, BUF
63 yds, 1 TD
Wideouts Report:
Are you starting to notice the same trend
I am? Santana Moss, and Steve Smith are making
the Studs list every week, oh don't forget
Chad Johnson either, who had his dance with
the goalpost Endzone celebration nullified
by a penalty call. He later felt the moment
was lost.
Moss has some cartoonish jets. He and Mark
Brunell are getting very comfortable with
each other and it is giving the Redskins a
nice weapon to add to Clinton Portis. Rod
Smith...one of my favorite players had a huge
game with 6 grabs for 123 yards and a score
and the Broncos beat down the Pats. This game
wasn't nearly as close as the score. Tampa
Bay head coach Jon Gruden said this week that
Michael Clayton would be more involved in
the offense. But he caught just two passes
as Joey Galloway continues to see major looks
from Brian Griese – and Chris Simms,
who entered the game late after Griese left
with a sprained knee. Galloway caught nine
passes for 96 yards and a TD, and was thrown
to 14 times.
Brooks hit Donte Stallworth for a 27-yard
touchdown pass with 7:02 left to play versus
Atlanta. Tied 24-24, Atlanta took their next
drive only three and out and the Saints were
kind enough to throw an interception on their
first play that ended on the NO 11-yard line.
Exactly the reason why I hate the Saints,
and will never again pick anyone on this team
but Deuce.
Buffalo's Eric Moulds was practically lobbying
for the move to Holcomb in Buffalo, and has
found pay dirt in each of the past two weeks
with Holcomb at the helm. Moulds also hauled
in a season-high seven catches on Sunday.
TIGHT
ENDS
Key
Stats
D. Clark, CHI
19 yds, 2 TD
J. Shockey, NYG
129 yds, 1 TD
T. Heap, BAL
79 yds, 1 TD
H. Miller, PIT
72 yds, 1 TD
C. Cooley, WAS
54 yds, 1 TD
Tight Ends Report
- Week 6 - Last year the three main
tight ends to draft were Gonzo, Shockey and
Heap. This year it was Gonzo, Gates, Shockey
and Dallas Clark. Well I'm noticing that Shockey
is doing his best to remain consistent with
another stellar game. He is the must start
tight end we've all been waiting for. I'm
almost ready to say bench Gonzo, but it is
tough. As for Gates well he was just non existant
yesterday versus the Raida's. Wright is starting
to find Heap with more regularity as the Baltimore
offense actually aired it out versus Cleveland,
this is good news for Heap owners.

FANTASY FOOTBALL WEEKLY DUDS - WEEK 6
Fantasy Dud News: Dud Of
the Week : Tommy Maddox finally had his moment
of glory. Again. And after throwing an incompletion
to Heath Miller, he tried to hit Quincy Morgan
but NOOOOOO - He throws it into the waiting
arms of Rashean Mathis of the Jaguars who
slashes in front and streaks down the left
sideline for a 36-yard, game winning touchdown
in overtime. Touchdown Tommy lives. Just on
the other side of the street this week. His
final stats a respectable (NOT) 11-28, 154
yards, 1 TD, 3 INTs; 3 carries, 15 yards,
1 lost fumble.
WR/TE
Michael Clayton, Buccaneers: 2 catches, 27
yards
Keenan McCardell, Chargers: 2 catches, 20
yards
Randy Moss, Raiders: 0 catches, 0 yards
Jimmy Smith, Jaguars: 3 catches, 32 yards
Reasons to watch the Monday Night
Game:
1. The lone unbeaten team
in the National Football League puts that
perfect record on the line Monday night as
the Indianapolis Colts host the St. Louis
Rams at the RCA Dome. The Colts ran their
record to 5-0 last week by trouncing the San
Francisco 49ers by a 28-3 score. Peyton Manning
was good on 23-of-31 pass attempts for 255
yards and a touchdown in that win, although
he was picked off twice by the 49ers' secondary.
Edgerrin James rushed for 105 yards and a
touchdown for Indianapolis in the game.
The last time a Colts team started 6-0 Johnny
Unitas led Baltimore to the NFL title.
