December 20, 2005 NEW ORLEANS BOWL Southern Miss (6-5) NEW ORLEANS BOWL December 20, 2005 8:00 pm EST- ESPN Lafayette, LA Arkansas State (6-5) It's the first bowl game of the season with Southern Miss looking to win its second straight New Orleans Bowl. Arkansas State is in its first bowl game led by Antonio Warren and a solid running game. You'll have gone 17 days without a college football game. You need this. It's a New Orleans Bowl that isn't in New Orleans, and also without North Texas. The Indians provide some new blood and some new excitement to the game. He'll throw interceptions and make some bad plays, but he'll also connect on a few deep passes. The last time Houston was in a bowl game was against Hawaii two years ago in a classic 54-48 loss. Kansas is third in the nation in run defense and 19th in total D, while UH is 14th in total offense. If Nevada plays like it did against Fresno State, and UCF plays like it did in the first half against Tulsa, this will be fun. It's UCF's first bowl ever. It's a battle between the coach's coaches. UCF's George O'Leary might be the national coach of the year after taking a winless team to the Conference USA title game. The Zips have the MAC's best defense, and a balanced, occasionally exciting offense with good playmakers. It's the final game for Memphis RB DeAngelo Williams as he closes out his College Football Hall of Fame career. This is a very, very important game for the MAC. After missing out on a bowl game last year thanks to a kitten fight with South Carolina, the Tigers will be fired up. Colorado is much, much better than it looked over the last few weeks of the season. After getting outscored 100-6 in its last two games, and 130-22 in its last three, Colorado needs a good performance. When Rutgers gets on a roll, it can throw some big points on the board, the team is about defense allowing an impressive 344 yards per game. How jacked up will Rutgers be to be in its first bowl since the 1978 Garden State bowl. Who did the Scarlet Knights play? Arizona State in a 34-18 Sun Devil win.
