WEEK 6 NFL Power Rankings

The three other teams that went into Week 5 with perfect records all lost - the Washington Redskins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Cincinnati Bengals. That means the Colts stay atop the list this week, and they can improve their mark to 6-0 (and ensure they keep the No. 1 ranking) by defeating the St. Louis Rams at the RCA Dome on the next edition of Monday Night Football.

The Redskins, Bucs, and Bengals all slip this week, but not as much as they might have if the teams around them in the rankings were winning. The Philadelphia Eagles suffered a bad loss to the Dallas Cowboys, the Atlanta Falcons played without Michael Vick and fell to the New England Patriots, and the San Diego Chargers were dropped by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football. In fact, with most teams at or within a game of the .500 mark about two-thirds of the Power Rankings has become a toss-up; basically, outside of a few standouts we still don't really know who is going to be good this season.

Against-the-spread the standings aren't any more clear. Although the Colts are 5-0 on the season, they're a more mediocre 3-2 ATS. The league's top ATS team has been the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are 4-1, while the New York Giants, Washington Redskins, Detroit Lions, Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns are all 3-1 ATS on the season. At the other end of the scale, picking the St. Louis Rams (1-4), Arizona Cardinals (1-4), Baltimore Ravens (1-3), Houston Texans (1-3), or Minnesota Vikings (1-3) to win ATS has been a money-losing venture to this point.

Why do we do this? Why do the NFL power rankings even matter? Well let me tell you!!! They don't! But we still love NFL power rankings anyways. Here is the Week 6 edition of the NFL Power Rankings.

3-2-0	4	Patriots		Tom Brady was good in their win against the Falcons, but the defense didn't look so hot versus a second-string QB.
4-1-0	5	Bengals		Failed in their effort to bump their record to 5-0; will be looking to rebound next week with a game in Tennessee.
4-1-0	6	Buccaneers		We knew it couldn't last forever, but falling from the ranks of the unbeaten by scoring only field goals is still ugly.
3-2-0	7	Falcons		Michael Vick's late scratch from Sunday's game must've caused some distress for those with cash on the Falcons.
3-2-0	8	Eagles		Completely outplayed by the Cowboys last week, with QB Donovan McNabb throwing for only 131 yards.
3-2-0	9	Jaguars		Contained the Bengals' attack enough to pick up a win on Sunday night; next get to face the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
3-1-0	10	Giants		We're beginning to see the family resemblance with Eli; come off their bye week to take on the Cowboys in Dallas.
3-2-0	11	Panthers		Had to rally to defeat the Cardinals last week; Steve Smith had two touchdown catches in the 24-20 victory.
3-1-0	12	Redskins		A failed two-point conversion attempt late in last week's game versus Denver sent them to their first loss of the year.
3-2-0	13	Seahawks		Got a monkey off their back with that win against the Rams, and now have a lead in the NFC West division.
2-3-0	14	Chargers		Couldn't hold onto a lead in the fourth quarter on Monday night, as the Steelers booted a late field goal for the win.
3-2-0	15	Cowboys		Drew Bledsoe had a good game against the Eagles: 24-of-35 for 289 yards passing and three touchdown strikes.
2-2-0	16	Chiefs		Had a week to stew about that loss to the Eagles, and will return to the field to play the Redskins on Sunday.
2-3-0	17	Rams		Losing at home to the Seahawks was a blow, especially with Seattle's top two receivers out for the contest.
2-2-0	18	Lions		Joey Harrington threw for only 97 yards last week, but the Lions' running game led them to a win over the Ravens.
2-3-0	19	Jets		Vinny Testaverde could only lead the offense to a 14-point effort, but it was enough for them to beat the Bucs.
2-3-0	20	Bills		Kelly Holcomb led them to a win over the rival Dolphins on the weekend, and the job should continue to be his.
2-2-0	21	Browns		Trent Dilfer found Antonio Bryant in the end zone twice late in the game last week to give the Browns the win.
1-3-0	22	Vikings		Held the Falcons to only 88 passing yards in Week 4, but were still routed 30-10. Troubling times in Minnesota.
2-2-0	23	Dolphins		Gus Frerotte tossed two touchdown passes last week, but the three interceptions didn't help them versus the Bills.
1-3-0	24	Ravens		Doesn't much matter who your quarterback is if you're going to allow the opposition to score 35 points in a game.
2-3-0	25	Saints		The loss that dropped them under the .500 mark was a bad one - the Packers scored 52 unanswered points Sunday.
2-3-0	26	Titans		No one's going to give them a medal for topping the Texans, but it did inch their record closer to the .500 mark.
1-3-0	27	Raiders		Momentum from their win over the Cowboys was halted by their bye week; get the Chargers this weekend.
1-4-0	28	Packers		Looks like Brett Favre wasn't happy about that winless mark, as evidenced by the beating they gave to the Saints.
1-3-0	29	Bears		Kyle Orton threw for only 117 yards (plus a touchdown) in their loss to the Browns. The job isn't getting done.
1-4-0	30	Cardinals		Were up 17-10 on the Panthers at halftime in last week's game, but they couldn't make that lead hold up.
1-4-0	31	49ers		Rookie QB Alex Smith's line versus the Colts: 9-of23 passing, 74 yards, zero touchdowns, four interceptions.
0-4-0	32	Texans		Playing the Titans at home was a great chance for them to pick up that first victory. Too bad they blew it.
