Turmoil
appears to have caused the Vikings to jel rather
than fall apart and their win over the Packers
made it clear they are a very dangerous team.
If they expect to move on they'll need a balanced
offensive attack and a strong game from QB Daunte
Culpepper working against an aggressive Philadelphia
defense. There is no question the loss of WR
Terrell Owens hurts the Eagles' chances of finally
getting to the Super Bowl, but don't feel too
bad for them. They have gone to the last three
NFC Championship Games without Owens and they
made it to the penultimate game without RB Brian
Westbrook, who missed the postseason with a
torn triceps, last year. While Westbrook and
QB Donovan McNabb will have to carry the offense
on their shoulders without Owens in the lineup,
they are more than capable of rising to the
challenge. Minnesota are 1-7-0 ATS in their
last 8 games against Philadelphia.
I'm taking the Eagles 31 Vikings 27

Pittsburgh Steelers

Heinz Field
will once again be the forum for this divisional
matchup. As the Steelers look to fend off a
Jets team that built momentum with an upset
win at San Diego in the wild-card round last
week.
The goal will be similar for the Jets this
week, as they need to combat a stout run defense
by opening things up and being more creative.
If Chad Pennington and his receivers –
particularly speedster Santana Moss –
can get on the same page early on it will put
a lot of pressure on rookie QB Ben Roethlisberger.
If not, the Steelers should be able to successfully
defend their home turf with a strong commitment
to Jerome Bettis and the running attack, which
will take much of the pressure off of Big Ben
in his first NFL postseason action. Pittsburgh
are 6-2-0 SU in their last 8 games after being
7.5 to 10 point underdogs
I'm taking the Steelers 24 Jets 21

(14-2,

This is
the matchup that all true NFL fans have been
waiting for since last January, as the Colts
travel to Foxboro to take on the defending Super
Bowl champion Patriots in a rematch of last
year's AFC Championship Game. The game-within-the-game
is the psychological matchup between QB Peyton
Manning and head coach Bill Belichick, as Manning
is just 4-7 in 11 previous meetings versus Belichick-coached
teams.
However, without star cornerback Ty Law and
with standout DE Richard Seymour hobbled, will
Belichick have enough weapons to pull yet another
rabbit out of his hat? If the Patriots are to
overcome an ailing defense, their offense will
have to control the clock and field position
battles in this game. New England are 7-0-1
ATS in their last 8 games against Indianapolis
and Indianapolis are 6-3-0 ATS in their last
9 games.
I'm picking an upset here though and taking
Indy 35 New England 27

Atlanta
beat St. Louis 34-17 when these two teams met
on Sept. 19. But the Rams appear to have some
momentum with three straight wins, including
last week's victory over Seattle. St. Louis
will rely heavily on the arm of QB Marc Bulger,
and his success early on will play a critical
role in the outcome, as it needs to take the
crowd out of the game. However, staying balanced
is the key when working against the Falcons'
outstanding defense.
The Rams will need to mix in the run early
and often. Atlanta will counter with a strong
commitment to the running game in the hopes
of taking pressure off QB Michael Vick and keeping
its talented but undersized defense well rested.
The challenge for St. Louis will be slowing
that ground game down and forcing Vick, who
has been inconsistent as a passer, to make plays
with his arm. St Louis are 1-5-0 ATS in their
last 6 away games
Sorry Rams but you're overachieving stops in
the Georgia Dome. I'm taking The Falcons to
win this game. Falcons 30 Rams 20
