Batch went 15-of-25 for 209
yards passing in the Steelers' 28-17 home win
over the Miami Dolphins last Thursday, tossing
three touchdown strikes and avoiding any interceptions.
Hines Ward, Nate Washington, and Heath Miller
all had TD catches for Pittsburgh, while Joey
Porter returned an interception for a score in
the fourth quarter. Steelers RB Willie Parker
had a good game as well, with 115 rush yards on
29 carries.
Roethlisberger reportedly
looked good in practice this week, although he's
bound to feel some ill effects from his recent
appendectomy on Monday night. But barring another
setback (and we're pretty sure he won't be riding
a motorcycle down to Florida), he'll be the Steelers'
starting quarterback on Monday, with Batch sent
back to clipboard duties.
And Big Ben's positive report
has bettors flocking to the Steelers in this one.
The Monday nighter opened as a pick'em, but that
line has moved to Pittsburgh -2.5 or even Pittsburgh
-3 at various books. The contest's total has been
pegged around 37.5 points.
Jaguars faithful won't like
seeing their team pegged as a home underdog on
Monday night - but picking up a win over the defending
Super Bowl champs would probably take much of
the sting out of that slight. And a win in Week
2 would run their record to 2-0.
The Jags pulled out a 24-17
home win over the Cowboys in their opener last
week, with only a late TD catch by Terrell Owens
making the score respectable for Dallas. Jacksonville's
defense gave Drew Bledsoe fits in the game, and
the Cowboys QB ended up going just 16-of-33 for
246 yards passing, with the one TD strike and
3 INTs.
Byron Leftwich, on the other
hand, went 23-of-34 for 237 yards in the air,
with one passing touchdown, one rushing touchdown,
and one interception. Fred Taylor ran for 74 yards
on 21 attempts for the Jaguars, and scored a touchdown
in the fourth quarter. Reggie Williams hauled
in a pass in the end zone from Leftwich in the
second quarter.
Jacksonville and Pittsburgh
met once in 2005 (in October), with the Jaguars
picking up a 23-17 road victory. The Steelers
had been favored by 3 points at home in that contest,
making it an ATS win for the Jaguars as well.
The combined score turned out to be an OVER play.
In December of 2004 the Steelers edged the Jaguars
by a score of 17-16 down in Jacksonville, with
the result an UNDER play; Pittsburgh was a 3-point
favorite.
Here is the official
Week 2 injury report for the Steelers:

Jerame Tuman TE Probable Week 2 (Hamstring)
Troy Polamalu S Probable Week 2 (Shoulder)
Max Starks T Probable Week 2 (Knee)
Hines Ward WR Probable Week 2 (Hamstring)
Nate Washington WR Probable Week 2 (Knee)
Here is the official
Week 2 injury report for the Jaguars:

Mike Peterson LB Questionable Week 2 (Knee)
Gerald Sensabaugh S Questionable Week 2 (Ankle)
Paul Spicer DE Questionable Week 2 (Groin)

The Jaguars hit the
road for their Week 3 contest, and they won't
be going to friendly confines; Jacksonville plays
the division-rival Indianapolis Colts next week
at the RCA Dome. Meanwhile, the Steelers also
play against a division opponent next week, as
the Cincinnati Bengals will be traveling to Heinz
Field. Both games will start at 1:00 PM ET.
