The Vikings cannot
be taken seriously by anyone who know anything
about NFL betting until two things are proven.
First, Tarvaris Jackson has to evolve into
more then a poor man’s Michael
Vick. Secondly, they have to stop the pass.
Jackson has the tools
to be a fun quarterback to watch, but that
has to coincide with an inherent ability to
put up good numbers and win games. He is already
winning people, fans included, in Minnesota
because of his freakish speed and athleticism.
But, as is always the problem in Minnesota,
he has nobody to throw to. I won’t
even bother naming these guys off.

The Vikings will run
the ball like crazy in 2007 because, if for
no other reason than they have no choice. Adrian
Peterson joins 1000-yard rusher Chester Taylor
behind pro-bowl fullback Tony Richardson. The
problem is that defenders will stuff eight
in the box knowing Minny can’t
throw the damn ball.
So about that defense.
Everyone was raving mid-season about the Vikes
number one ranked rush defense…until
they realized that they had the worst passing
defense in the league. It wasn’t that the
Vikings were incredible against the run; it was
that they were atrocious against the pass so
everyone just threw on them.
The same thing occurred
with the Oakland Raiders and the Indianapolis
Colts last year. They were ranked as the top
two best defenses against the pass. That is
misleading, however, as those rankings are
based upon total yardage allowed. If not one
team even tried to throw a ball against your
defense, you would, by default, rank #1 against
the pass, and this is what happened with last
season’s rankings. The Raiders and Colts
were so atrocious against the run that teams
rarely attempted to pass against them, opting
instead to play it safer and eat more time off
the clock with their ground games.
Looking deeper, one will soon see that, when
teams actually did attempt to pass against the
Raiders and Colts, those two teams were not very
good at all at stopping them.
Well, nothing has changed in the secondary for
the Lions, so expect that to continue. This team
has been awful for years, and has refused to
take the proper steps in restoring it to the
glory of seasons past. No wonder my Dad jumped
ship on these guys eight years ago.
