NCAA College Football Betting
- 2007 Nebraska Preview

Articles
Nebraska is the popular
college football betting favorite, even with
the BetUS NCAA football lines. They return
a bevy of talented offensive linemen and several
effective receivers (Terrance Nunn, Nate Swift
and Todd Peterson) as well as tailbacks Marlon
Lucky (6-0, 210; 728 yds, 6 TD’s)
and Cody Glenn (6-0, 230; 370 yds, 8 TD’s
in ‘06).
Arizona State-transfer
Sam Keller (6-4, 230) is likely to lead the
offense, though he was challenged all spring
by junior Joe Ganz (6-1, 200). Maurice Purify
was the Huskers’ most
dangerous deep threat but his June arrest (second
law problem in five weeks) caused Coach Bill
Callahan to suspend him from the team, indefinitely.
**Update: Senior Maurice
Purify (6-4, 220; is the Huskers’ most dangerous deep threat
but his two summer arrests placed him in Coach
Bill Callahan’s dog-house. He was reinstated
on July 20th and will miss the opener against
Nevada (as well as suffering undisclosed in-house
penalties). His presence from week two on will
be a great relief to the remaining receivers
(Terrance Nunn, Nate Swift and Todd Peterson),
who will benefit from coverage packages designed
to contain Purify.
Tailbacks Marlon Lucky
(6-0, 210; 728 yds, 6 TD’s) and Cody Glenn (6-0, 230; 370 yds,
8 TD’s in ‘06) are both quite talented
and their running styles present a varied threat.
Still, this unit was four deep last season and
things seem thin heading into 2007 (Brandon Jackson
declared early for the NFL Draft and Kenny Wilson
broke his leg this off-season allegedly while
moving a television).**
Defensively, the Huskers
have to replace three linemen, including newly-minted
NFL ends Jay Moore and Adam Carriker. Zachary
Bowman’s
coverage expertise was due to release the Black
Shirt linebackers to increase their blitzing
in ’07. His re-injury in early spring will
be setback.
The linebackers are
the unit strength, but the inexperience and
average talent in front and behind them could
restrict their effect. Still, the North is
not a strong division and Nebraska is the odd’s-on favorite (-120) to be its
champion at season’s end. The Huskers’ were
assigned the third-highest odds (+275) to win
the Big 12 outright.
