Kansas
State (7-6
in ’06) commonly receives
credit from the college football betting community
as the third-ranked team in the North. As a freshman
last year, Josh Freeman had four games of more
than 240 yds passing (including 269 vs. Texas).
However, the team was awful at red-zone scoring
and third-down conversions and Freeman showed
plenty of flashes of inexperience.
Moreover, Yamon Figurs
was the deep threat, as well as one of the
nation’s top punt-returners,
and he has graduated. There is no clear threat
to replace him.
With 11.5 sacks last
year, Ian Campbell was the team’s most
important defender. Under new coordinator Tim
Tibesar, KSU will switch to a 3-4 base-front,
and will turn Campbell into an outside linebacker.
Increasing the number
of linebackers in the scheme is curious since
KSU lost two of its best to graduation (Zack
Diles and Brandon Archer), while all of last
year’s starters, and
seven of the two-deep on the defensive line,
return. The Wildcats are at +300 college football
odds to take the North.
NCAA FOOTBALL ODDS TO WIN: North Division:

Missouri (+175)
Kansas State (+300)
