Philadelphia would be
doing themselves a world of good if they would just
rid themselves of that cancerous Owens, but we all
know that will not happen. Love him or hate him the
Eagles are just going to have to put up with Mr.Rich
for the time being, the offensive unit is better with
Owens on the field but the overall team is NOT. One
thing you can't knock Owens about, he makes every
off-season an interesting one.

The NY Giants still
have an all-star look to their lineup but what they
don't have is that all-star "finish". What
the Giants need to do is open up their offense, this
is a team that has been gaining their yards 2-3 at
a time for almost a decade now. The Giants are always
one of the lowest scoring teams in the league, they
have so much offensive power to work with yet it rarely
comes to fruition. If the Giants are going to have
success this season they are going to have use their
outside receivers more, they are also going to have
to get creative with their running game which for
the last 6 years has been the same almost every touch
- straight up the gut.

The Dallas Cowboys have
sure fallen a long way from the late 80's pillar of
grace they once occupied. This team does not have
a proven superstar anywhere near the team complex,
their running game is one of the worst in the league
and their passing game is one of the most ineffective
ever witnessed. There will be all sorts of new faces
on the Cowboys squad this season, it will take them
quite some time to gel as a complete unit on the field.

Washington has been
a team in turmoil for many years now, management fighting
publicly with their players has been a big problem
for this team and things have not gotten any better
over this last year. The Redskins are expecting a
whole lot of offense from RB Curtis Portis, while
he is a great ball-carrier we have learned in the
past what can happen when teams depend too much on
just one player - failure. Washington is not a team
with any real chemistry, they come to play for their
cheques but most of the players on this team could
easily be replaced with a practice squad member and
observers would not notice a difference. There are
way too many mediocre players on this Redskins team
to actually consider them a contender for anything
this season, I expect Washington to lose a ton of
games in 2005.

San Diego got career
years out of QB Drew Brees (3159yds + 27 TDs) &
RB Ladainian Tomlinson (1335yds + 17 TDs), Antonio
Gates was a great presence as well with 81 catches
for 964yds - he also contributed 13 scores on the
season. The Chargers were 12-4 last season and they
did very well at home where they lost just 1/8 on
the year. Expect the dynamic duo of Brees and Tomlinson
to burn up the field once again this season, with
more then a few years playing together now under their
belts, these two are capable of anything.

Denver is the team that
always seems to be just out of the reach of the promised
land. Great team, great players, great chemistry,
just not much finish. The Broncos finished last season
10-6 but with some of the numbers they put up, this
team should have had a much better record. Jake Plummer
led the offense with over 4000yds passing and he stayed
healthy enough to throw a staggering 27 TDs, WRs Lelie
& Smith combined for over 2200yds receiving alone,
this team has star-power. The team is a little revamped
this season, overall they still have their core players
intact and should look much the same as last season.
With Plummer familiar with his surroundings and knowing
what his team-mates are capable of, this team might
just do some serious damage this season.

Kansas City finished
last season with just 7 wins next to 9 losses, quite
frankly - they stunk. They still do because Dick Vermeil
is still the coach. A good guy, a great person, a
fantastic role model but when it comes to coaching,
Vermeil is kraft dinner. He's been in the league now
for 14 years and his coaching record sits at 110-103,
that's only 7 games over the .500 mark. He came from
St. Louis where he won the SB with a Marshall Faulk
who was in his prime and a much younger Kurt Warner
who was staking his territory and making a new name
for himself with the Rams, oh yeh, and Warner was
working with a couple guys named Bruce and Hakim as
well. Vermeil has Priest Holmes (892yds rushing 14
TDs on the ground alone) Tony Gonzalez (1258yds receiving
7TDs in the air alone) and Trent Green who passed
for 4591yds and 27TDs last season, this guy has gold
in his hands yet is producing lemon-seasons. Until
the brass for the Chiefs understand they need a coaching
change, this team will continue to hang around the
.500 mark.

Oakland was the worst
team in the AFL West last season with a record of
just 5-11. Their ground game was atrocious, Amos Zereoue
(?) was their leading rusher with 425yds and only
3 scores, THAT is how bad their ground game was. Overall
the team was crap and their hasn't been enough change
on their roster at this point to suggest this season
will be any different then last.

NFC North Preview
Even with a graying Brett Favre at the helms last
season the Green Bay Packers
still managed 1st place in the NFC North, they finished
the season 10-6 overall but impressed most on the
road where they won 6 of 8 on the year. WRs Javon
Walker and Donald Driver both finished the season
with over 1200yds, Driver had 84 catches while Walker
hauled in 89. Favre is ignoring father time and this
season will eclipse the 50,000 yard passing mark for
his career, it will happen sometime over the course
of the first two regular season games. Green Bay has
their core players in camp so they are ready to go,
it should be another challenging season for Favre
and company but there is no reason this team can't
challenge for first in the NFC North.

Minnesota was one of
the most inconsistent teams of last season, they did
finish 8-8 but the Vikings looked like a real bad
team more then they ever did a good one. Now with
their leading ball-carrier in Onterrio Smith gone
for the year because of drug problems, their star-player
in Randy Moss gone to Oakland, this Vikings team will
look even more dysfunctional. It was QB Daunte Culpepper
who was the second leading rusher on this team last
season with 406yds on 88 carries, Culpepper averaged
4.6yds per carry, who is this team going to hand the
ball to?? Randy Moss may have been a distraction to
this team, he may have been the biggest goofball to
ever put on the purple uniform but who is going to
fill his shoes from last seasons 767yds + 13 endzone
strikes?? There are many questions to be answered
on this team, the biggest one of them all has to be
"does Culpepper even want to be one this team
anymore"? Minnesota will struggle to reach .500
this season.

The Detroit Lions had
a dreadful season in 2004, they went just 6-10 and
had mirror-image records of 3-5 both at home and on
the road. It did not help the team one bit when they
lost all-star receiver Charles Rogers to an early
season-ending injury. The one shining light out of
last season was the fact that RB Kevin Jones had 1133yds
on just 241 carries, he averaged almost 5yds per carry
and he saw the endzone 5 times. Their two leading
receivers combined had only 1350yds, that is going
to have to improve bigtime if they are going to be
better then they were last season, Rogers return to
the lineup should give Harrington more options and
confidence then he had last year.

The Chicago Bears had
one of their worst seasons in franchise history in
2004, they finished with just 5 wins next to 11 losses.
Worst of all the Bears won just 2 of 8 at home, they
gave their fans nothing to cheer about and they shuffled
their lineup so often that even their head coach needed
a media guide to figure out who was on the field.
Chad Hutchinson was the leading pivot with a total
of just 903yds through the air, he threw a grand total
of 4 TDs. Thomas Jones was their leading rusher with
only 948yds, he barely averaged 4yds per carry and
he only managed 7 TDs on the year. The leading receiver
on this team had only 699yds on the season, it was
David Terrell and he caught only 1 TD marker on the
season, it WAS ugly. Chicago has not made enough off-season
noise to suggest this season will be any different
then last.

The Atlanta Falcons
finally got more then a couple games out of their
star quarterback, Michael Vick led his team to an
11-5 record last season and they challenged every
opponent they met. Atlanta was an incredible 7-1 at
home, there was big money to be made on the Falcons
on their own turf. Vick passed for 2313yds last season
and he did throw 14 TD strikes, but his feet were
his strongest weapon as he piled up over 900yds on
the ground including 3 endzone markers. Atlanta will
find it hard to repeat last seasons incredible run,
RB Warrick Dunn is more prone to injury and their
receivers aren't giving Vick the support he needs
to reach that next level.

The New Orleans Saints
have all the makings of a contender but they just
can't seem to get past that annoying .500 mark. Aaron
Brooks passed for 3810yds last season, he threw 21
TDs, RB Deuce McAllister rushed for 1074yds and he
saw the endzone 9 times last year, Aaron Stecker was
a solid backup averaging over 4yds per carry and marking
up 2 TDs on the season. Joe Horn had a very solid
year with 1399yds and 11 TDs. The Saints have all
the tools they need to get to that next level but
they need to keep their players healthy, they have
had 2 or 3 of their star players on the shelf for
almost every game over the last few seasons. I expect
the Saints to do better then .500 this season, this
could be their year. Click

Its difficult to fathom how Carolina
QB Jake Delhomme could pass for almost 4000yds last
season, throw 29 TD strikes and still the team didn't
even make the .500 mark. Last year the Panthers went
just 7-9, they were just 3-5 at home and that really
hurt them down the stretch. Muhsin Muhammad had a
monster year with 93 catches for 1405yds, he also
hauled in 16 TD markers. Their ground game was questionable
more days then not, Nick Goings led the team with
821yds but only 6 TDs on the season. Carolina hasn't
made many moves since the season ended, I don't expect
they will do much better this season then they did
last.

It's hard to believe it was only a few years back
that the Tampa Bay Bucs
were dancing around our television screens holding
the SuperBowl. Time goes fast and so does talent if
you let it get away on you which the Bucs certainly
have. Long gone are stalwarts from that Bucs defense
that won the SB, Warren Sapp - John Lynch just to
name a few have left for greener pastures and it is
showing very clearly at this stage of the game. The
Bucs finished last season just 5-11, good for last
place in the NFC South, the only bright spot from
last year is that the Bucs did all their losing on
the road (1-7) so their fans did get a little bit
back for their investment. This is a very unbalanced
team and it has not helped one bit that the Bucs have
been completely unable to develop their own QB over
the last decade, they continue to bring in leaders
from other clubs and then get impatient when they
do not see immediate results. Bucs are in a serious
transition period but until management recognizes
it and addresses it, the problems on this team will
continue.
