The Seattle Seahawks
incredibly finished #1 in the NFL West last season,
they had just 9 wins next to 7 losses but because
of their crappy divisional opponents St. Louis, Arizona
& San Francisco, the Seahawks were able to walk
away with the top spot in the division. Matt Hasselbeck
passed for 3382yds, he threw 22 TDs on the season.
Shaun Alexander was a workhorse as he carried 353
times for a total of 1696yds, Alexander reached the
endzone 16 times last year. Seattle has improved steadily
over the last few seasons, I expect the Seahawks will
improve on last years mediocre record.

St. Louis finished last
season just 8-8, they put up phenomenal numbers on
an individual level but their team chemistry just
wasn't there. QB Marc Bulger passed for almost 4000yds
and 21 TDs, Marshall Faulk got the bulk of the carries
last season and finished with 774yds to lead the team
but Steven Jackson averaged 5yds per carry as the
backup and he finished with just 101yds less then
Faulk. The receiving game was from another planet,
Torry Hold led the team with 1372yds on 94 catches
and 10 TDs, Isaac Bruce had 89 catches for 1292yds
and 6 TDs, there is no reason this team had to finish
at the .500 mark. With all the talent that this Rams
team has there is no reason they can't improve on
last years boring season, St. Louis has the ability
to make some serious noise this year.

The Arizona Cardinals
went just 6-10 last season, they were abysmal on the
road where they won just 1 of 8 contests. Josh McCown
would not be a starting QB on any other team in the
entire league but he makes the Cardinals lineup, he
led the team last season with 2511yds through the
air, only 11 TD strikes. Emmitt Smith, a player who
otherwise would have retired, led this team with 937yds
on the ground, even so, that was off of 267 carries
which amounted to an average of just over 3yds per
carry, those are not what a starters numbers should
be. The leading receiver for this team last season
was Larry Fitzgerald who had just 58 catches for 780yds,
he made just 8 endzone appearances. The near future
looks bright for this team stacked with youngsters
but at the present time they are still one of the
worst outfits in the league. This season is where
Arizona will start to discover itself, we will find
out what this team is made of in 2005.

No team was uglier in 2004 then the San
Francisco 49ers, a team that used to be known
for their classiness & their ability to find victory
is now the poster-team for turnovers and inability
to win. The 49ers found just 2 wins through 16 games
last season, they have done some shuffling since then
but nothing to suggest their season will look much
better this time around. This team needs some veteran
talent, they need voices in the locker-room that can
speak from experience, they also need to keep more
starters on the field. This team was stung hard with
injuries last season but they have to prove they can
overcome that adversity just like the rest of the
teams in the league.

The Pittsburgh Steelers
were an incredible show to watch last season, they
finished 15-1 and a perfect 8-0 showing at home. Ben
Roethlisberger led the team with 2621yds through the
air, he threw 17 TDs on the season. Jerome Bettis
and Duce Staley, two veteran workhorses, both worked
the ground to combine for almost 1800yds on the season,
Bettis scored a staggering 13 TDs while Staley added
one TD on the year. The Steelers used an equal balance
of ground and air attack to defeat their opponents
last season, they still have the support beams on
their roster to carry this team through another season
of success. I expect the Steelers to be just as tough
through the 2005 season.

The Baltimore Ravens
that won the SuperBowl only years back have officially
died. The Ravens finished last year 9-7 but that is
a far cry from how dominant this team used to be on
the field. Jamal Lewis put up most of the offense
for the team last year, he carried 235 times for a
total of 1006yds, he only saw the endzone 7 times.
The passing game was a joke at the best of times,
Kyle Boller threw only 13 TDs all season, his best
receiver turned out to be Travis Taylor who had 34
catches for just 421yds, Taylor never made one of
his catches count as he finished the season with 0
TDs. The Ravens will need a serious overhaul before
they are ready to compete on a consistent basis.

The Cincinnati Bengals
best years were when they had Jon Kitna leading their
offense, that is how bad things are for this team
.... again. The Bengals surprised a lot of watchers
last year as they finished the season 8-8, they even
gave their supporters something to get excited about
as they went 5-3 at home. Carson Palmer looked good
behind the snap, he passed for 2897yds and hit the
endzone 18 times. Rudi Johnson was a workhorse on
the ground carrying 361 times for a total of 1454yds,
Johnson reached the endzone 12 times. Chad Johnson
and T.J Houshmandzadeh combined for over 200yds receiving
last year, they combined to score 13 TDs on the season.
Cincinnati is in constant transition, they never seem
to be happy with their personal no matter how powerful
the number they put up. A constant work in progress,
expect the Bengals to slip a little as they try once
again to work in some new faces to this ever-changing
lineup.

The Cleveland Browns
need to stop the internal fighting that has been going
on for years now. The Browns players and coaches were
constantly bickering in the media last season and
it really reflected itself in the fact the team won
just 4 of 16 games last year. The Browns were self-destructive
on the road where they won just 1 of 8 last year.
Jeff Garcia only passed for 1731yds and 10 TDs, their
leading rusher had just 744yds and saw the endzone
just twice, their leading receiver was Dennis Northcutt
who had just 55 catches for 806yds hitting the endzone
only twice as well. There is not much for Browns fans
to get excited about this season, there is much work
to be done on this franchise that pretty much self-destructed
over the last two seasons.

The Indianapolis Colts
set career records last season, they finished the
year 12-4 including winning 7 of 8 on their own field.
Peyton Manning broke records with his 4557yds and
49 TDs in 2004, Edgerrin James burned up the league
with 1548yds and 9 TDs on the ground, Reggie Wayne
and Marvin Harrison led the way in the receiving corps
combining for over 2300yds and 27 TDs. Expect more
fireworks from this seasons Colts, they have lost
a few players from last year but the body of this
team is still together. Indianapolis should find the
#1 spot in the AFC South pretty easy to grab against
the likes of Jacksonville, Houston and Tennessee.
The Colts might even break some more NFL records this
coming season. Click

The Jacksonville Jaguars
started last season very strong but they were unable
to keep the momentum going as injuries eventually
took their toll. Byron Leftwich led the way with 2941yds
through the air, he also threw 15 TDs on the season.
Fred Taylor was a giant to watch as he ground out
1224yds for the Jags. Jimmy Smith was the teams leading
receiver with 74 catches for 1172yds, he managed 6
endzone catches. The Jaguars have all the personal
to reach that next level, what they really need to
do is keep away from the longterm injuries. The Jaguars
are capable of big things if they can stay healthy
this season.

After last season it is very apparent that David Carr
is not the problem for Houston.
The Texans QB passed for 3531yds last season including
16 TDs, he helped Andre Johnson reach 1142yds receiving
on the year. Carr even made headlines last year as
he put his running game into motion, he finished second
on the team with 299yds on just 73 carries. Domanick
Davis led the team in rushing with 1188yds, he saw
the endzone 13 times in 2004. The Texans have their
ground game, the team has a solid air-attack as well,
with less turnovers and more attention to defense,
this team is capable of delivering a very successful
season.

The Tennessee Titans
had a terrible season in 2004, they finished last
in the AFC South with record of just 5-11, that includes
winning just 2 of 8 at home. Billy Volek led the team
with 2486yds passing, he did manage to throw 18 TDs
along the way but their record certainly does not
indicate it. Chris Brown was a workhorse with 1067yds
on the ground, he only saw the endzone 6 times rushing.
The receiving corps was led by Drew Bennett and Derrick
Mason who combined for over 2400yds receiving, consider
that's almost the entire amount Volek put up all year
and you can see why the Titans brass must be panicked
about their options in the passing game. You cover
those two players and the Titans don't have a whole
lot of options on the field. The Titans picked up
RB Travis Henry in the off-season but chances are
that he won't be able to top what Brown is already
doing for this team. Tennessee has a lot of work to
do before they will even get close to the .500 mark
again. Click

The New England Patriots finished
off another huge season in 2004-2005 as they went
14-2 in the regular season then rolled through the
playoffs and won the big prize. The Patriots went
8-0 at home and only lost 2 of 8 on the road, they
were #1 in the AFC East, they scored 437pts and they
allowed a total of just 260pts. We all know what this
team can do, we have been watching them do it for
the last 4 years. New England will be the favorite
to win the SB this season again but I do not believe
they will be able to carry that momentum through another
entire season. They will be good again, but they won't
win it all.

The NY Jets had a decent
season last year, they finished #2 in the AFC East
at 10-6, they put on a real show at home where they
went 6-2 last season. The passing show wasn't that
great with Pennington putting up just 2673yds including
16 TDs, but the ground game was pretty solid with
Curtis Martin leading the way on 1697yds and 12 TDs.
The Jets watched several players leave and even retire
over the off-season, it will be interesting to see
the opening day lineup of this team. New England will
win this division again but with only Buffalo and
Miami left on board, the NY Jets should stay very
competitive for that second place spot all season.

Buffalo had some great
moments last season and other days they looked like
they should be charged with impersonation of a professional
athlete. The Bills finished the season 9-7 but they
looked more like a 3-16 team all year. Drew Bledsoe
fit in very well as the leading pivot with 2932yds
on the season, Bledsoe threw 20 TDs over the year.
Willis McGahee led the rushing attack with 1128yds
and 13 TDs, it was a very impressive year for McGahee.
Eric Moulds once again led receivers with 88 catches
for 1043yds, it was great to see Lee Evans giving
great support on the outside with 48 catches for 843yds,
Evans had 9 TDs while Moulds contributed 5 TDs on
the year. Buffalo has rid themselves of the troubled
Travis Henry, there is no reason this team can't improve
on what was an average season for an above average
team.

The Miami Dolphins finished
last in their division last season, they had just
4 wins next to 12 losses, they had the worst offense
in the AFC East and they had the worst defense in
the AFC East as well. Ricky Williams returning this
season will immediately help their running game, it
will also help their passing game as well as Williams
forces defenders to crowd him at the line, this allows
other receivers to find open spots that otherwise
might not be there. I expect the Dolphins to improve
on last seasons record but they might find it hard
even reaching the .500 mark at this stage of the game.
