fantasy FOOTBALL - Fantasy Sleepers - June 29, 2006
2006
Fantasy Football Sleepers - Fantasy Sleepers
and Busts are the latest to be profiled in VIP.com
Edge's fantasy draft guide.
Sleepers are
players that VIP.com Edge has rated higher than most
other fantasy football sites. Busts
are players ranked lower by VIP.com Edge on average.
Sleepers
QB Jon Kitna - Detroit
Kitna is battling Josh McCown for the starting job,
and he appears to be well ahead. The winner gets the
keys to the new Porsche, which is Mike Martz’s
high powered offense. With Roy Williams at receiver
and a solid runner in Kevin Jones, Kitna can put up
big numbers.
RB Corey Dillon - New England
Dillon rushed for 1,600 yards in 2004, but was limited
to 733 yards in 12 games last year. Dillon battled
ankle injuries for a lot of 2005, and he is already
angry that some in the media think rookie Laurence
Maroney has surpassed him. An angry Dillon is a productive
Dillon.
WR Reggie Wayne - Indianapolis
Wayne signed a mammoth free agent contract in the
off-season and he now has the security he wanted.
Last year, he led the team in receptions over Marvin
Harrison for the first time in his career, and this
year the margin should increase. All signs point to
a big 2006 season.
WR Lee Evans - Buffalo
Evans has all the tools of a 1,000 yard receiver,
unfortunately the Bills passing attack is way below
average. However, with Eric Moulds gone, Evans is
the only wide-out on the team who is proven, and he
will be thrown to again and again this year.
TE Dallas Clark - Indianapolis
Clark’s fantasy numbers were supposed to increase
last year with Marcus Pollard leaving for Detroit.
Instead, they were up only slightly year over year.
This will be Clark’s best season as the Colts’
passing offense is going to have to makeup for the
loss of Edgerrin James.
Busts
QB Ben Roethlisberger –
Pittsburgh
Roethlisberger recently suffered a horrific motorcycle
accident and his playing status is not fully known
yet. Knowing Big Ben’s toughness, he will push
himself to come back too soon. Roethlisberger was
not a great fantasy option before the accident, so
just stay away.
RB Joseph Addai – Indianapolis
Addai is a first round pick out of LSU and he will
try to fill the void left by Edgerrin James. The problem
with Addai is that he will be splitting time with
veteran Dominic Rhodes. Addai should have a good rookie
year, but he is not a surefire 1,000 yard rusher as
some suggest.
RB Ron Dayne - Denver
Dayne is battling Tatum Bell for the featured back
role, but Bell will eventually win out. Dayne did
have some good moments as a Bronco last year, but
it is not smart to think he can replace Mike Anderson’s
rushing production. Dayne is also not great at getting
in the end-zone.
WR Antwaan Randle El - Washington
Randle El comes over from Pittsburgh where he was
the number two receiver. Here in Washington, he will
be the number three and a return man. With tight end
Chris Cooley also catching a lot of balls, and Clinton
Portis running it a ton, Randle El’s opportunities
are limited.
WR Terry Glenn - Dallas
Glenn had 1,136 yards receiving last year, but those
numbers will decrease with Terrell Owens as the new
number one guy. Glenn is a favorite of Drew Bledsoe
going back to their New England days, but those expecting
another 1,000 yard season are sure to be disappointed.
TE Jerramy Stevens - Seattle
Stevens had his best season as a pro in 2005 with
554 receiving yards and five touchdowns. However,
Stevens is coming off arthroscopic knee surgery and
Seattle’s wide receivers will get more looks
this year with a healthy Darrell Jackson and the newly
acquired Nate Burleson.
