The NFL preseason kicks off
August 6th this year and if you haven't been
tracking the off-season moves, now is definitely
the time to start. Professional handicappers
worth their salt have been staying on top of
all the off-season moves and preparing for the
new year for the past few months. I take this
prep work one step further because the NFL Preseason
is a BIG part of my program and it's allowed
me to be quite successful and produce documented
results of 40-19-1 the past 3 years (12-8-0
60% in 2005, 14-5-0 in 2004 74% and 14-6-1 in
2003 70%). My Featured ProCapper Preseason plays
are also a perfect 4-0 after last season. The
bottom line is early prep can pay big dividends!
There is one situation that has jumped out
at me this off-season and that's head coaching
changes. WOW! A whopping 10 new head coaches
in 2006 and more than half of them are rookies.
This isn't very common and it will definitely
create some beautiful spots to cash in this
August. Here's a quick look at the list:
Buffalo Bills (Dick Jauron)
Detroit Lions (Rod Marinelli)
Green Bay Packers (Mike McCarthy)
Houston Texans (Gary Kubiak)
Kansas City Chiefs (Herm Edwards)
Minnesota Vikings (Brad Childress)
New Orleans Saints (Sean Payton)
New York Jets (Eric Mangini)
Oakland Raiders (Art Shell)
St. Louis Rams (Scott Linehan)

Remember though coaching motivation can be
a huge factor but it's only one piece of the
puzzle. I've written before about how important
it is to have multiple advantages in the preseason
before pulling the trigger and that still applies.
Don't automatically assume all new coaches will
be great play-ons, especially early. I use approx.
20 systems involving new coaches and a handful
are absolute gems when things line up. Most
are play-on but some are actually play-against.
Motivations can vary and some coaches will need
time to iron out concerns with their teams.
But after an opening loss or two, even the most
tactically sound coach starts to feel the pressure
to grab their 1st win. Plan ahead for these
potential spots and be ready to read between
the lines during those week 2, 3 and 4 preseason
press conferences. In fact, some of my best
wins have come from coaches comments in the
2 months leading up to the preseason so don't
be shy about making notes now to use down the
road. The coach's attitude and overall team
mentality can be extremely important in cashing
lopsided winners.
If you do your homework you can get a real
edge and know what to expect when the situation
lines up. That's what the successful Pro Cappers
do!
