The Steelers continue to make history,
becoming not only the first team since the 1985 Patriots
to win three road games en route to the Super Bowl
but the first sixth seed to advance to the Big Dance.
They did it with a resounding 34-17 triumph over the
Broncos, who lost for the first time this year at
Invesco Field at Mile High. Ben Roethlisberger threw
for two touchdowns and ran for another, while an opportunistic
defense came up with four takeaways. The Steelers
entered the contest having played five AFC title games
since 1994, all at home, and managed only one victory.
The Seahawks are on their way to their
very first Super Bowl after routing the visiting Panthers
34-14 in the NFC Championship Game. Seattle scored
10 first-quarter points and never looked back as Shaun
Alexander returned from last week's concussion to
rush for a team playoff-record 132 yards and two touchdowns,
while Matt Hasselbeck threw for 219 yards and two
scores. The Seahawks picked off three passes in winning
their 12th straight home game. It's Mike Holmgren's
third trip to the Super Bowl, where he was 1-1 as
head coach of the Packers in the 1990s.
