A weekly look at
which fantasy football players are on the rise,
and which ones are on the decline. There are many
players to choose from, but we will concentrate
on a select few. Remember, the much read “Start
or Bench” column comes out every Thursday
Dallas’ Terry
Glenn has always been a favorite target
of quarterback, Drew Bledsoe. He proved that again
in their Sunday night win over Washington with
94 yards receiving and one touchdown. Now, with
Terrell Owens likely to miss some games due to
a broken finger, Glenn is going to get plenty
of more looks.
The Jets’ Jerricho
Cotchery is souring up fantasy lists after
nailing down the number two receiver role with
the Jets. New York really has no running game,
which means that quarterback Chad Pennington will
continue to throw the ball 35 times per game.
Both Cotchery and Laveranues
Coles are big recipients of that offensive
philosophy.
Frank
Gore of the 49ers was thought of as an
up-and-comer heading into this season, and he
is not disappointing. San Francisco’s offense
has come along faster than expected, and Gore
is lighting it up running the ball and catching
it out of the backfield.
In New England, Patriots
fans got their first look at potential replacements
for Deion Branch, Doug Gabriel and rookie, Chad
Jackson. Gabriel did not have a catch against
the Jets, while Jackson had two catches for 42
yards, including a touchdown. So far though, the
biggest fantasy beneficiary from Branch leaving
has been tight end, Ben
Watson.
With Branch playing this
week in Seattle, it is interesting to ponder which
Seahawks’ wide receiver will be affected
the most. The thought here is that it will be
Nate Burleson, who has already been missing in
action for most of the first two weeks.
Miami quarterback, Daunte
Culpepper was thought to be the missing
piece in the Dolphins’ quest to win a Super
Bowl. Now, it looks like he is just missing. Culpepper
had a terrible start against Buffalo last weekend,
and his confidence appears to be shrinking each
week. We could see Joey Harrington as his replacement
sooner rather than later.
Cleveland running back,
Reuben Droughns
has rushed for over 1,200 yards in each of the
last two seasons. It would be shocking if that
happened again this year. Droughns is averaging
only 12.5 carries and under 30 rushing yards per
game. The Brown offensive line is in shambles
and now Droughns has a hurt shoulder that warranted
an MRI. Droughns may warrant a fantasy benching
this week against Baltimore.
