NFL
Week 10 Picks - November 10, 2006
by: VIP.com
Week 10 has four selections, plus another three
games that just missed the cut. There are a lot
of big spreads in the games ultimately picked,
with Green Bay (+5.5) at Minnesota being the closest
contest. Enjoy this weekend’s action.
Editor’s Note:
The selections in this column are purely the opinion
of the writer, and are not being endorsed by any
or all parties.
Games Considered But Not Picked
San Francisco (+6) at Detroit:
Considered picking Detroit. Detroit is just 2-6
on the year, but they are coming off a very impressive
home win over Atlanta. That win was a great momentum
builder, and this team is finally starting to
click with the Mike Martz offense.
The 49ers have the better
record at 3-5, but they have been dreadful (0-3)
on the road, losing their last two games by a
combined score of 82-10. I see at least a touchdown
win for Detroit, but it is hard to feel totally
confidant about this Lions team.
Kansas City (E) at Miami:
Considered picking Kansas City. The Chiefs (5-3)
are coming off an impressive win at St. Louis,
and they are red-hot, winning five of their last
six games. Quarterback, Damon Huard has played
very steady, but it is the running of Larry Johnson
that has made the difference.
Miami (2-6) is getting a
lot of respect here because of their win last
week at Chicago, and their second half run last
year. Kansas City should win this game, but the
Miami run defense is good enough to cause some
concern.
St. Louis (+3.5) at Seattle.
Considered picking St. Louis. Seattle (5-3) was
supposed to get running back, Shaun Alexander
back this week, but that looks doubtful. Quarterback,
Seneca Wallace has played pretty well in replacing
Matt Hasselbeck, but now he matches up against
one of the NFL’s best in Marc Bulger.
St. Louis (4-4) is on a three
game losing streak as the turnovers have stopped
coming their way. They also can’t stop the
run. Alexander being out helps in that regard,
and the Rams can win this game outright by getting
into an old-fashioned shoot-out.
NFL Week 10 Selections
Green
Bay (+5.5) at Minnesota: Minnesota (4-4)
is really struggling right now after a blowout
loss versus New England and a woeful road defeat
at San Francisco. The Vikings’ offense scored
just 10 points total in those games, and there
is no reason to think they can explode this week,
even at home.
Green Bay is 3-5 on the year
and 2-2 on the road. The Packers did lose 24-10
at Buffalo last week, but they dug their own grave
by losing the turnover battle, 4-0. Everyone talks
about the problems Brett Favre has in domes, but
he has played excellent in the Metrodome the last
two years. Green Bay has a chance at an upset
here. NFL Free Pick:
Green Bay
Washington
(+7) at Philadelphia: Philadelphia (4-4)
is coming off the bye week, and still trying to
figure out how they went from one of the best
teams in the NFL, to a team on a three-game slide.
Philadelphia is still too one-dimensional (passing)
on offense, and they are also failing to stop
the run.
Washington (3-5) got a fortunate,
but big win over Dallas last week, and the momentum
should carry over. Wide receiver, Santana Moss
is questionable with his hamstring injury, and
that means the Redskins will rely on Clinton Portis
more than ever. Look for this to be a very close
game. NFL Free Pick:
Washington
Buffalo
(+12) at Indianapolis: Buffalo is 3-5 on
the year, but just 1-3 on the road. The Bills
are without Willis McGahee for this game, but
they need to keep running the ball so that quarterback
J.P. Losman is not forced to carry the offense.
If he has to, it could be a three interception
day.
Indianapolis is coming off
an emotional Sunday night win at New England,
so you have to be a little concerned about a letdown.
However, they beat Houston by two touchdowns last
year after a huge win over the Patriots. The Colts
are also shooting for an undefeated season. NFL
Free Pick: Indianapolis
Dallas
(-7) at Arizona: Arizona is the worst team
in the league at 1-7. Their coach, Dennis Green
seems to have lost his squad, and even the bye-week
might not have helped that cause. The return of
wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald will help, but
their problems are much deeper than that.
The Cowboys are in desperation
mode at 4-4, and coming off that disastrous loss
at Washington. The good news is that Tony Romo
is looking like a huge upgrade over Drew Bledsoe,
and Coach Bill Parcells is one of the best at
getting his team to focus on the task at hand.
The Cowboys should easily handle this inferior
Cardinals team. NFL
Free Pick: Dallas
