NOTRE DAME @ PITTSBURGH #23, -3 PTS
8:00 PM ABC

Two new head coaches lead their new teams in an early season feature game. Both coaches are coming from the professional ranks Notre Dame’s Charlie Weiss coming from the New England Patriots with Pitt’ Dave Wanstedt coming home after coaching the Dolphins. While an underdog on paper, Notre Dame is an amazing 98-14-5 in season openers lifetime and have won 17 of their last 20 openers.

TEXAS A&M #17, -1 ½ PTS @ CLEMSON
8:00 PM ABC

Clemson, a team who thinks of themselves as an elite team but hasn’t been for a while has some talent and an ambitious schedule. They will find out how good they are right out of the gate when they host #17 Texas A&M. Dennis Franchione's is led by QB Reggie McNeal and RB Courtney Lewis and both have NFL potential. The defense looks the the ‘wrecking crew’ of old. But it all comes down to McNeal staying healthy but McNeal makes this good team great.

GEORGIA TECH @ AUBURN #16, -7 1/2PTS
8:45 PM ESPN

Georgia Tech has a high powered offense and plays as tough a schedule as anyone in the nation with non conference games at Auburn and UConn. Tech has the talent to win the ACC this year and this game should be a great barometer for them. As for Auburn, well you don't get better by losing QB Jason Campbell, RBs Ronnie Brown and Carnell Williams and CB Carlos Rogers. The cupboard is not dry however as their wide receivers are very good and the linebackers will probably the best in the SEC.

Sunday:
VIRGINIA TECH #8, -3PTS @ N.C. STATE
7:15 PM ESPN

The Hokies won’t sneak up on anyone this year. Tech returns just about everyone of note on both sides of the ball and superstar Marcus Vick is back and ready to have people think of his talent, not troubles. Imagine this…Having the number one ranked defense in all of college football and not making a bowl game or even having a winning record! N.C. State’s defense is loaded with future pro’s but their offense has to pull their weight for them to have a shot at the ACC title.

Monday:
MIAMI FLA .#9, -3PTS @ FLORIDA ST. #14
8:00 PM ABC

This is a Monday night spotlight game and should be a great one! Miami hasn’t won a National Championship in two years which is unacceptable by their standards. They lose QB Brock Berlin but have super prep Kyle Wright ready to switch on.They return everyone on defense except Antrel Rolle. The Seminoles were decimated by injuries last year, quarterback was a mess and the defense was inexperienced and they still came within three plays of going 11-10!
