Coach McCollum
Entering his seventh season as the head coach at his alma
mater, Andy McCollum has stockpiled a bevy of talent across
the board that should give Middle
Tennessee its greatest depth in six previous years playing
at the Division I-A level.
Known for his exciting and unpredictable play, McCollum
has compiled a mark of 30-38 since returning to lead the
Blue Raiders. McCollum, who has a
vote on the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll for the fourth year
in a row, has not shied away from college football’s
heavy weights as evidenced by contests
against 19 teams from the power conferences during his six
years at the helm.
McCollum, the 2000 and 2001 Tennessee Sports Writers Association
Coach of the Year, is coming off a 5-6 season that saw his
team go 4-1 at home and
upset MAC foe Akron on the road.
Floyd Stadium
Floyd Stadium was originally constructed in 1933, and first
enlarged in 1950. The stadium was modified again in 1968,
increasing the seating capacity to 15,000. Upon its initial
construction, the field was named in honor of Horace Jones,
the head of the math department. Jones had been interested
in the Blue Raiders athletic department and was a one-man
athletic committee for years until the faculty athletic
committee was formed.
In the 1960s, it was renamed Horace Jones Field in order
to clarify, which Jones the school was honoring. Though
the playing area still remains Jones Field to this day,
the stadium itself became Johnny "Red" Floyd Stadium
on November 3, 1979 when they named it after the former
head coach.
Who We Are
The MT "Lightning" Dance Teams embody 5 key elements
necessary for success in collegiate dance: a champion work
ethic, self-discipline, flexibility, perseverance, and dedication
to quality. These five characteristics are the bedrock of
the MTSU Dance Team program. By utilizing grace, strength,
and ability, this team represents the nation's most up-and-coming
university in the collegiate dance team arena.
The “Blue Lightning” perform at all home Blue
Raider football games. During these games they can be seen
on the sidelines cheering with the Blue Raider Fans and
at halftime with the 6th largest collegiate marching “Band
of Blue”. These ladies can also be seen at school
pep rallies and parades.
With all this hard work behind them, there is always room
for fun! Parties, drum line mixers, community work, “Junior
Lightning” Clinic and team road trips are just the
beginning. The MTSU Dance Teams are a great way to shape
up, improve your dancing, meet new people and make memories
that will last a lifetime.
