What an up and down week we endured
here at www.betcris.com. Things got off to a
very, very bad start for us last Monday with
the heavily supported New England beating the
Jets by 10 points in a high scoring match. Considering
the bad Sunday we also had last week (Xmas day)
we were really hurting and plenty of our customers
had lots of money to spend going into the New
Year. Many College Bowls concluded this past
week, and while we did have a lot of anxious
moments, in general the week was good for us
in the Bowl games. NBA was a week where many
of our customers found some winners, but for
us College basketball returned a few bettor
results.
The last week of NFL is always
very difficult for bookmakers, and this week
was no different with many results going as
expected. It is always difficult to handicap
games when good teams have nothing to play for
and rest some of their key players. But how
long will they play? It seems every year, the
general bettor seems better at working that
out than we are. The worst result for us happened
with two teams which had only 5 wins between
them, Houston at San Francisco. San Francisco
was by far our worst ‘Teaser’ result
with nearly all our bettors banking on them
to win the ‘Reggie Bush’ bowl. Mainly
the thinking was Houston would lose to ensure
the worst record and therefore claim the number
1 daft pick in 2006. They didn’t disappoint
either, even though at one stage they were winning
10-0!! One day I am sure the NFL will look into
its draft order as games where teams want to
lose just cant be good for the sport.
Best College Bowls for
the public.. Rutgers was a popular
bet against Arizona State in the Insight Bowl
receiving anywhere between 13.5 points when
we opened to 9 points at kick off. Our worst
College result for the week with Arizona winning
by only 5, 45-40.
Missouri receiving 3.5 points
was just enough to sway the public to bet another
upset in the Independence Bowl. Straight up
win bettors also got their cash with Missouri
winning on the floor 38-31.
Best College Bowls for
the house.. Utah’s upset victory
over Georgia Tech was our best College result
by far for the week. Georgia Tech was well supported
to win the Emerald Bowl pushing the opening
line of 7, all the way to 9 at kick off. They
were never in the hunt though and Utah cruised
to a big victory, Utah 38-10
NFL Games of note…
Like I explained above, San Francisco was probably
our worst result of the week. It’s the
first time this year that I’ve ever seen
a teaser bet on San Francisco, let alone San
Francisco being the most bet for the week by
our customers!
Green Bay was another
bad result for us. We opened Seattle
a 2 point favorite and immediately we were swamped
with Green Bay bets. It wasn’t until we
got to +6.5 before we could find any serious
money for Seattle. We of course were not too
happy with a Green Bay 6 point win.
Washington was a great
public result as well. They needed
to win to ensure a place in the playoffs, and
the public bet them like hey would do it. They
came from behind and eventually covered the
7- 7.5 point spread and won 31-20
Thank god the final silly
week of NFL is finished, and the Playoffs
begin. I hope all of our customer enjoyed a
great 2005 and New Years party, and from all
of us here at Betcris, we hope 2006 is even
better.
Until next week, Good Luck.
Regards,
Shane Catford
