The college football bowl season
continues tonight with Notre Dame at Ohio State
in the Fiesta Bowl. This is the best game of
the entire Bowl schedule outside of USC and
Texas in the national championship game. Check

bowl coverage.
Bet
Now: Notre Dame (+4.5) at Ohio State
Note: There
are six Bowl games being played today. Alabama
(+3.5) plays Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl,
Iowa (+1) vs. Florida in the Outback Bowl, Louisville
(+9) against Virginia Tech in the Gator Bowl,
Wisconsin (+10) and Auburn in the Capital One
Bowl, and West Virginia (+6.5) vs. Georgia in
the Sugar Bowl.
Notre Dame is 9-2 on the year,
and has emerged as one of the nation’s
premier programs under first year coach, Charlie
Weis. Notre Dame’s two losses on the year
were to Michigan State 44-41, and USC 34-31,
in a game that they easily could have won.
The Fighting Irish have been
winning games on offense, pure and simple. They
score more than 38 points per game, good enough
for 6th in the country. Quarterback Brady Quinn
has been a sponge in soaking up Weis’
system.
Quinn has 32 touchdown passes
versus just seven interceptions. They also spread
the ball around with four players having more
than 35 receptions. The running game is mediocre
statistically, but they do have an 1,100 yard
rusher in Darius Walker.
Ohio State is 27th in the nation
in scoring at 32.5 points per game. The Buckeyes
have a couple of big play receivers in Santonio
Holmes and Ted Ginn Jr, and a running game led
by the tough Antonio Pittman. Quarterback, Troy
Smith is not the pocket passer that Quinn is,
but he ran for 545 yards this year, and he will
keep the Irish defense on their toes all game.
Defensively is where Ohio State
has a sizable advantage with the top ranked
rushing defense in the country. The linebacking
core is led by A.J Hawk and Bobby Carpenter,
a unit so good that it makes a lot of NFL teams
jealous.
Notre Dame will not be able to
run the ball effectively, so the pass defense
is where this game will be won or lost. Notre
Dame will spread the field and try to find the
weakness in the OSU secondary. The Buckeyes
have a talented back four, but this is the most
explosive offense they have played this year
by far.
Coach Weis is an offensive genius,
there is no other way to say it. As offensive
coordinator for the New England Patriots, he
helped them win three Super Bowls in four years.
Ohio State’s Jim Tressel is no slouch
himself. He has a national title, and is a top
college coach. That being said, if this game
comes down to X’s and O’s, the advantage
goes to the Fighting Irish.
