                               The Super Bowl
odds have been released and to no one’s
surprise, the New England Patriots are big
                              favorites once again.
                               Now, Sportsbook.com
takes its first look at the biggest single
                                game on the planet.
                                 NY
                                    Giants (+12.5) vs. New England
The Giants are the team that was not expected
to be here, storming through the NFC playoffs
as the fifth seed and winning three straight
                                road games.
                               Their playoff
wins over Tampa Bay, Dallas and Green Bay matched
the feat set by Pittsburgh two years ago when
they won Super Bowl 40 over Seattle, 21-10.
It also gave the G-Men an NFL record of 10
                                straight victories away from home.
                               Ironically, the
Giants magical run started in the last week
of the regular season when they lost to the
Patriots, 38-35. New York could have sat their
starters with nothing to play for before the
playoffs. Instead, Coach Tom Coughlin played
the game like it was the Super Bowl and almost
                                ruined New England’s perfect season.
New England (18-0) is the squad that was supposed
to be here, the team that had to be here after
marching through the regular season undefeated.
                               One more win and
they surpass the 1972 Miami Dolphins who finished
a perfect 17-0. While many of the Dolphins’ contingent seem less than
                                gracious about New England’s accomplishments,
there will be no denying the historical achievements
of this team that is shooting for its’ fourth
                                Super Bowl in seven seasons.
The Patriots had two workmanlike victories
in the playoffs over Jacksonville and San Diego.
The wins were by 11 and nine points respectively,
failing to cover the spread in either contest.
New England will now try to cover almost a two-touchdown
spread against a team with a ton of momentum.
The one mark about this Patriots team has been
resilience. They can beat you with the number
one rated passing attack that helped put up 38
or more points eight times. If you focus on taking
away their outside threats, they will beat you
with short passing and a running game that suddenly
has new life with Laurence Maroney.
Even the often-maligned Patriots defense rose
to the occasion against the Chargers, stopping
them three times in the red-zone without a touchdown.
That was the single biggest factor in ensuring
                                another New England win.
The Giants have also showed they will back
down from no team, even the Patriots. The offense
has been balanced, and the great postseason play
of Eli Manning has surprised even his big supporters.
The defense has also been playing at a high level,
showing the ability to pressure the quarterback
no matter what the weather conditions are.
You can expect another maximum effort for the
Giants who are trying to atone for a 34-7 Super
Bowl loss to Baltimore in the 2000 season. While
only defensive end Michael Strahan and wide receiver
Amani Toomer remain from that team, it still
leaves a bitter taste in the mouth of this proud
                                organization.
The Over/Under for this game has been set at 54
points , showing what the bookmakers
think the score will look like without freezing
                                    temperatures.
