Previews
The college football
season has ended, but there’s
no reason to cry yourself to sleep even if you’re
the biggest fan around.
That’s because
Sportsbook.com has already released their 2009
BCS Championship odds, giving you the chance
to back your favorite team while others are
still standing on the sidelines.
Here is a brief synopsis of the favorites:
USC
(3:1)
The Trojans are the favored team and should
remain that way even if some juniors decide to
make themselves available for the NFL draft.
Talented quarterback Mark Sanchez is the favorite
to replace John David Booty.
Ohio
State (6:1)
The Buckeyes were
blown out in the last two national title games
so most fans are cringing at the thought of
them making another. However, most of the offense
will be back including running back Chris Wells,
and the defense will reload even with some
big defections.
Florida
(6:1)
Quarterback Tim
Tebow returns as the only sophomore to win
the Heisman and receiver Percy Harvin is coming
back with him. Don’t forget that
this squad was the national champion two years
ago and they can be one again if the defense
steps up.
Georgia
(8:1)
No team ended the 2007 season hotter than Georgia,
winning seven straight including a 41-10 trouncing
over Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl. Most of the starters
return and they get SEC East foes Florida and
Tennessee at home next year. No wonder these
odds are so low.
Oklahoma
(8:1)
This team is loaded
next year on both sides of the ball and they
are already a favorite to win another Big 12
title. However, Coach Bob Stoops’ team
has lost four straight BCS bowls, including
two championship games.
LSU
(10:1)
The national champs
proved that the Big Ten elite is no match for
the SEC, but it will be a challenge just to
repeat as conference champion. The defense
will be the big issue as the majority of the
starters will likely need replacing.
West
Virginia (15:1)
Nobody predicted
West Virginia’s spanking
of Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl, and now the coaching
reigns have been passed to Bill Stewart. With
quarterback Pat White and running back Steve
Slaton returning, the Mountaineers should remain
the class of the Big East.
Texas
(20:1)
Quarterback Colt
McCoy should be a lot better after suffering
through the dreaded “sophomore
slump”. The bad news is that running back
Jamaal Charles is taking his 1,619 rushing yards
with him to the NFL.
Virginia
Tech (30:1)
Cornerback Brandon Flowers has decided to make
himself eligible for the NFL draft, but the Hokies
will still compete in the ACC. Also watch out
for Clemson to make some noise in the conference.
Missouri
(30:1)
Missouri finished the season at 12-2 after getting
snubbed for a BCS Bowl game. With quarterback
Chase Daniels returning for another Heisman Trophy
run, this team appears to be overlooked once
again in these very enticing odds.
Auburn
(30:1)
Another talented SEC team should not surprise
anyone, and Auburn has a lot of the pieces in
place to make a run at the SEC West crown with
LSU. That said, there is a question mark at quarterback
with the departure of Brandon Cox.
