This NFL Top 10 will be based on a bettor's
perspective, rating teams not on their record,
but their current strength.
1) NEW ENGLAND: Are the Pats running out of
gas? After winning their first four games by
an average score of 37-12, they "only" beat
Buffalo 34-17! New England became just the
fourth team in NFL history to open the season
with five wins by at least 17 points.
2) INDIANAPOLIS: Even with Hall of Famer to
be Marvin Harrison and leading rusher Joseph
Addai both sidelined, the Colts put 33 points
on the board vs a Tampa Bay stop unit that
had previously allowed just 44 points total
the first four weeks!
3) DALLAS: It wasn't pretty but it's an instant
Monday night classic. Six turnovers for Tony
Romo but, more importantly, two 4th quarter
drives resulting in Cowboy touchdowns then
Nick Folk hits not one, but two 53 yard field
goals for the win!
4) PITTSBURGH: It was total domination as
the Steelers shutout Seattle 21-0. Pittsburgh
played without Pro Bowlers Troy Palamalu and
Casey Hampton, yet limited the Seahawks to
8 first downs and just 144 total yards! Time
of possession in the 2nd half...an incredible
24:53 to 5:07 in favor of the Steelers.
5) JACKSONVILLE: Three consecutive wins for
the Jaguars since an opening-season loss to
Tennessee. Jacksonville, allowing just 10 points
per game on the year, held Larry Johnson to
12 yards on 9 carries, 126 fewer than he had
on this same field last year in a 35-30 win
over the Jaguars.
6) TENNESSEE: Despite a 5-turnover afternoon,
the Titans moved to 3-1 for the fourth time
under Jeff Fisher, and they made the postseason
the three previous times.
7) BALTIMORE: Ravens out first downed the
49ers 19-6, outgained them 315-163 and out
clocked them 38 minutes to 22 minutes, yet
only won 9-7.
8) SEATTLE: Seahawks absorbed their first
shutout in 118 games as Shaun Alexander had
just 25 yards on 11 bruising carries and Matt
Hasselbeck went 13 of 27 for 116 yards.
9) GREEN BAY: Pack had a chance to blow out
the Bears early, but two James Jones' fumbles
in the red zone allowed Chicago to only trail
17-7 at the half.
10) SAN DIEGO: With their 41-3 drubbing of
Denver, the 2-3 Chargers are now just a 1/2
game of out first place in the soft AFC West
chase. San Diego amassed 484 yards of offense
and limited the Broncos to a field goal in
11 possessions, handing Denver it's worse home
loss since 1966.
