Round 2 Coverage - NFL Draft Pick By Pick

2007 NFL Season

The 2007 NFL Draft - Complete Draft Tracker and Round 1 and 2 Analysis. The 2007 NFL Draft is finally here and that means it's time for Quin Smyth and Mike Pool to to check in with their NFL draft day pick by pick analysis. Why watch ESPN, and the NFL network when all you need is right here? Ok we don't mind, put the TV on, and keep the laptop close ok? Lets Go!

Round: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7

Round 2 Pick By Pick - 2007 NFL Draft - April 28th New York, NY
Player College Team Analysis
33.Alan Branch DT Michigan Cardinals (from Raiders)

QS - A heck of a pick for the cards to start off the 2nd round. Good trade.
MP - Solid pick for the Cards to help stuff the top RB's in the NFC West

34. Paul Posluszny OLB Penn State Bills (from Detroit) QS - BUffalo gets the guy they want to replace the departed Takeo Spikes.
MP - Score for the Bills after missing out on Willis in round 1...Great trade up by the Bills
35. Aaron Sears OLT Tennessee Buccaneers QS - The third player of the day to be drafted from Tennessee.
MP - Gruden goes offensive T in round 2 and paves the way for the Caddy. A nice pick.
36. Kevin Kolb QB Houston Eagles (from Browns) QS - Self-starter who has been a great program player and unquestioned leader ever since first stepping into the huddle as a freshmane.
MP - Insurance policy for McNabb and a good pick for Andy Reid’s version of the west coast offense. Is McNabb OK? Kolb moved up draft boards fast.
37. Eric Weddle SS Utah Chargers (from Redskins) QS - A good player who I think is a bit overhyped in an easy conference. Wants to play CB, but will be a backup.
MP - This guy is the steal of the draft playing any position you want. After a questionable 1st pick Smith redeems himself
38. Zach Miller TE Arizona St. Raiders (from Cardinals) QS - The second best tight end in the draft, will fill a need in Oakland, and Russell has his first weapon.
MP - I like this kid and Russell needs a lot of help so it is a good pick. That said O-line makes more sense to me…Blalock?
39. Justin Blalock Texas Atlanta (from Houston) QS - Great young talent and yes a guy who should have been drafted in the first round.
MP - I love this guy because of his versatility. He is a 1st round talent and makes ATL rushing attack that much better
40. John Beck QB BYU Miami QS - 70% passer. He put up numbers against competition that's not that strong. He's a respected team leader, can come thru in the clutch.
MP - They pass on Quinn to take Beck? Does this make sense to anyone? Miami fans I feel your pain…Quinn and Jarrett/Smith seems better than Beck and Ginn.
41. Chris Houston CB Arkansas Falcons (from Vikings) QS - Could struggle to be anything more than a #2 CB in the Pros. I'm not high on him.
MP - Maybe the pick of the draft here. Houston is a great corner and maybe better than any CB in the draft Falcons Schaub trade pays off big time.
42. Tony Ugoh G Arkansas Colts (from 49ers) QS - If a team bulks him up and puts him inside at guard, he will be more productive, much like former Razorback Shawn Andrews (Eagles)
MP - Indy steals a guard in the second thru a trade with SF. SF is making noise but Indy gets a guy to protect Manning and plow for Addai
43. Drew Stanton QB Michigan St. Lions (from Bills) QS - My #4 rated QB in the draft goes to the Lions. He has NFL caliber tools, but his lack of poise and toughness bug me a little. He'll learn behind Kitna.
MP - Detroit looks in-state for QB help and I think they get a good one to groom behind Kitna. Millen is surprisingly good today
44. Sidney Rice WR South Carolina Vikings (from Falcons) QS - Should of stayed in school for another year, but he'll help out the Vikings pass attack.
MP - Great pick and maybe an admission Williamson isn’t the guy they thought they got last year. Superb ability if a little raw
45. Dwayne Jarrett WR USC Panthers QS - I flat out love this guy, but it could be because I'm a USC fan. He's physically ready to contribute at the pro level. Watch out NFC south.
MP - Drops to his skill level but can learn from Keyshawn and should produce at the next level
46. LaMarr Woodley DE Michigan Steelers QS - Woodley became the first Wolverine to win the Lombardi Award (top lineman) and Ted Hendricks Award (top defensive end) in 2006.
MP - Solid LB pick for the Steelers. I like this guy as much as I like Timmons in the first. The Steelers rebuild the Steel curtain
47. David Harris ILB Michigan Jets (from Packers) QS - Big and fast, the kid can fly. One of the best square up LB's in the draft. Jets will have a 3-4 scheme on D now. Vilma and Harris in the middle.
MP - Trade up for a man at LB. Good in either 3-4 or 4-3 and the Jets score with the move up. Mangini has only a few picks today and makes the most of them.
48. Justin Durant ILB Hampton Jaguars QS - At the very least Durant who reminds me of Seahawks Leroy Hill could develop into a great ST's player, and make a living covering kicks.
MP - I had to look this guy up…not a good sign but Del Rio knows defense and Durant had 98 tackles at Hampton…Hmmmm Nelson = great pick Durant = stretch
49. Kenny Irons RB Auburn Bengals QS - He can make people miss in the open field. Great upside and ability, could have been a late 1st rd. pick in my opinion. Rudi's successor?
MP - Solid pick but what does this say for Rudi Johnson and Chris Perry…the Cincy backfield is getting crowded. Irons is a young Rudi
50. Chris Henry RB Arizona Titans QS - Another good Pac 10 Running back. Career 4 year starter who came on late in his senior season. This is a stretch pick by Tennessee.
MP - Dumps a Henry and replaces with a Henry. A good pick even with limited college playing time…sleeper pick on a team that can hardly afford one. Titans could have used a WR
51. Steve Smith WR USC Giants QS - A great pick by the Giants. A talented WR core in NY now. Burress, Toomer, Moss, Carter and now Smith. He's a dependable receiver who will stick with the Giants and do well.
MP - This guy is better than the last 4 receivers on my board so the Giants steal one. Great pick and a reliable option for Eli.
52. Bryan Leonard FB Rutgers Rams QS - He looks like a fullback but is ideally suited to be in a 1 back set. A real throwback player. Big, smart, and tough. Good pick Rams.
MP - A hybrid FB/RB to share the load and block for Jackson. I think the Rams have drafted wisely although Leonard may be a reach here
53. Eric Wright CB UNLV Browns (from Cowboys) QS - My #16 rated DB. He's an immature kid, and I hope the Browns know what they're getting with this kid. He is a natural athlete with upside. But a big red flag beside his name.
MP - Drops because of character but Wright may be a 1st round talent. A CB who can cover with speed. Baxter isn’t always healthy so a double cover with Wright is a great deal.
54. Turk McBride DE Tennessee Chiefs QS - Generates a quick surge off the snap, showing the first step to gain advantage on the blockers … Has a good feel for blocking schemes. Good depth for the Chiefs.
MP - I guess Sims hasn’t worked out to Herm’s liking but McBride will help even if only to share time and push the former number one pick. I thought Tank Tyler was better but Herm knows defense
55. Josh Wilson CB Maryland Seahawks QS - My #7 rated CB on my rankings. Has rare speed and good acceleration. He could double as a kickoff return man. Should improve with coaching and experience.
MP - A nickel guy who can return and getting a decent return guy is always a bonus from a player who should contibute right away. Maybe a stretch but SEA first pick since 2006 so maybe rusty?
56. Tim Crowder DE Texas Broncos QS - Good sized base end. Has shown the ability to dominate. Has the physical tools to be a solid pro. Good pick. I'm surprised Seattle didn't grab.
MP - Another DE so Shanahan obviously wants to make Jamarcus Russell’s first year a tough one. Denver needed defense though so maybe two is better than one
57. Victor Abiamiri DE Notre Dame Eagles QS - Has the change of direction and agility to make plays along the perimeter and neutralize the cutback lanes … Avid weight lifter who does the little extras in the training room
MP - Quinn’s first playmate in the draft goes to Philly to help out from the edge along with Kearse. Not too scary but Victor could develop into a sack machine groomed under ‘the Freak’
58. Ikaika Alama-Francis DE Hawaii Detroit (from Saints) QS - A lean 6-5, 220-pounder with limited football playing time, Warriors head coach June Jones still did not hesitate to offer the youngster a football scholarship based on potential alone.
MP - I like this DE and pick. What is wrong with the world today. Has Matt Millen been abducted by aliens? Three straight decent picks…Eerie…and I don't mean the lake
59. Ryan Kalil C USC Panthers (from Jets) QS - The #1 center on all draft boards, and 3 year starter on a national championship team. Can get stronger but will start from Day 1. Good pick Carolina.
MP - The USC center dropped out of sight but went to a good home in Carolina. A solid player but may need some work to be a starter…Delhomme and Carr like the pick and is great value here.
60. Samson Satele C Hawaii Dolphins (from Patriots) QS - Experienced 4 year starter. Natural strength to be effective at center or at guard. Good pick for the Dolphins who need offensive line help, and get it with this pick.
MP - Very athletic center who switched from guard so has versatility but has Matt Millen started drafting for Miami? This may be the first pick based on need. Miami's O-line was awful last year.
61. Gerald Alexander FS Boise St. Lions (from Ravens) QS - My #14 rated Safety. Moved from CB to SS last year. Best suited to play corner in a Cover 2 in my opinion. Brings a ton of versatility to the Lions.
MP - This is a good pick…again. Alexander has good range and starting potential although in Detroit that doesn’t say much. Detroit is having a very good draft.
62. Dan Bezuin DE Central Michigan Bears (from Chargers) QS - Great effort guy with a motor that doesn't stop. (Ala Grant Wistrom). Solid tackler, smart, and a team leader, good pick for the Bears.
MP - Another DE that projects to be an LB in the NFL but some wonder about his speed. Strong and athletic so gaining some weight and playing DE may not be out of the question…DE or LB, both good picks for the Bears
63. Brandon Jackson RB Nebraska Packers (from Bears) QS - Good size and good vision. A good pick by the Packers to work with Favre and that offense. Will battle it out for a starting job.
MP - I love this kid. A RB from Nebraska is never a bad pick and this guy has some speed and decent hands. GB needed a top pick in the backfield and got one here.
64. Sabby Piscitelli SS Oregon State Buccaneers (from Colts) QS - His quickness and ability to take proper angles allows him to close on the ball and string plays wide in run support. Foot speed, size and playing strength, he can match up
MP - I am surprised that Piscitelli lasted this long with so many safeties going. He is a good pick and going this late he is a steal. Gruden scores again, big fast SS or LB with a few pounds if he adds weight.
