Blog and Wager On Football Sportsbook Review
(New York, NY) January 24th, 2007 –
Out of the 40 Super Bowls ever played, the MVP
of the game has been a quarterback on 20 occasions.
With the Colts and Bears ready to square off in
a week and a half, the two starting QB’s
couldn’t be more of a contrast.
This season, Manning led
the NFL in touchdown passes (31), passer rating
(101.0) and was only 21 yards behind Drew Brees
in passing yardage. The Bears’ Rex Grossman,
on the other hand, was the weak spot for the Bears
much of the season. He ended the regular season
as the NFL’s 24th ranked passer.
Something that sticks out
when you look at Grossman’s stats is how
inconsistent he was. During the regular season,
Grossman had eight games where his passer rating
was 98 or higher. Unfortunately he had six performances
where his rating was below 65, including games
where his ratings were a pathetic 10.2, 23.6,
1.3, 0.0.
During the postseason, neither
QB has played very well. Grossman has completed
just 50% of his passes while Manning has thrown
6 interceptions and only 2 touchdowns.
Given the 50% rate at which
a QB wins the Super Bowl MVP award, it isn’t
surprising that the two signal callers are Sportsbook.com’s
favorites to be named Super Bowl XLI MVP. Despite
being the top two favorites, there is a huge discrepancy
in odds, due to their respective performances
this season.
