Bet On Football - Week 14 Preview

This week's NFL
betting action kicks off Thursday
evening, when the Chicago Bears roar into the
nation's capital to face the Washington Redskins,
and like a lot of Week 14 games it puts both
clubs in a must win situation as postseason emerges.
Both teams take the field at 5-7 SU (straight
up) and a defeat will all but eliminate the loser
from the playoff picture. The Redskins were unable
to hold off the Buffalo Bills in an emotional
17-16 home loss as the 6-point favorites last
week to now be 3-7-2 ATS (against the spread).
The Bears are also
coming off a money-dropping loss with a 21-16
home defeat to the New York Giants as the 1½-point
underdogs to put them in the red at the ticket
counter at 4-8 ATS.
The Bears are 3-3 SU and ATS away from home
and have failed to cover the number in two of
their last three games overall. A majority of
the defending NFC champions money-dropping habits
are due-in-part to an offense that's generating
just 19.8 points per game and 301.0 yards. They
aren't making much noise defensively either having
given up 22.7 points and 355.9 yards.
The Redskins are 3-3 SU and a money-shredding
1-4-1 ATS when playing in front of the home folks.
They are even more stagnant offensively than
the Bears, as they post only 19.1 points per
game and 330.0 yards. Defensively, Washington
is slightly better allowing 21.4 points and 314.6
yards.
With numbers like this, it's no wonder why the
Bears and Redskins will be playing for their
playoff lives in a great NFL wagering contest
on Thursday.
Washington has dropped the cash in six of their
last seven games and that gives bettors the edge
to Chicago in this NFC showdown. But the Redskins
have lost four straight and is fading quickly
from the postseason picture as they're in dire
needs of a win making them a solid selection
as the early 3-point favorites.
Another game featured in Week 14 being played
Sunday that has major importance and playoff
implications is between the San Diego Chargers
and hosting Tennessee Titans as both are 7-5
SU.
The AFC West-leading Chargers are playing much
better following a sluggish start. Last week,
the Chargers beat Kansas City 24-10 as the 6-point
chalk for their sixth SU win in eight games and
third cover in their last four.
The Chargers are getting the job done on both
sides of the ball. Offensively, San Diego is
putting up a solid 23.8 points per game and 308.3
yards, while surrendering just 19.4 points and
334.6 yards on defense.
Reigning MVP running back LaDainian Tomlinson
of San Diego, who's third in the league in rushing
with 1049 yards, will be facing a Tennessee defense
that's good against the run, giving up only 93.9
yards per game.
Overall, the Titans are allowing a respectable
20.1 points and 294.0 yards defensively, and
on offense they're posting a sour 19.3 points
and 315.9 yards.
Tennessee quarterback
Vince Young had a dazzling game in last week's
28-20 victory over his hometown Houston Texans
as the 3½-point favorites,
snapping a three-game skid SU and ATS for a team
that hadn't even held a lead in a month.
Young threw for 248 yards and two touchdowns
in the bankroll building win, but it'll be tough
to showcase another strong outing against a San
Diego team who's passing defense that's giving
up a decent 222.8 yards per game.
These two clubs most recently met last season
in Week 2 when the Chargers routed the Titans
40-7 in an easy cover win as the double-digit
favorites at home. But don't expect the same
type of outcome versus an improved Tennessee
club that's 4-2 SU and 3-3 ATS at home.
Sunday's marquee matchup is between the Pittsburgh
Steelers and New England Patriots. The Patriots
have already been crowned division champs and
have secured a playoff berth, as have the Steelers
barring a complete melt down in Pittsburgh.
A Pittsburgh win and a loss by the Cleveland
Browns would hand the Steelers the AFC North
title and definite postseason spot, meanwhile,
a Patriots victory would go a long way towards
home-field advantage making this a big game for
both sides.
As the season winds down, there's many games
filled with importance and playoff implications
in Week 14 which makes for dynamic betting action.
Including Sunday's night cap between the Indianapolis
Colts and Baltimore Ravens, with the week concluding
on Monday Night when the New Orleans Saints visits
Atlanta to battle the Falcons. Be sure to checkout
