First, the Cleveland Browns are a favorite.
Now, after a bye week, they are a road favorite.
This is not a role this team is accustomed to
and backing them is playing with fire. Yes, theRams
are garbage. Yes, their head coach is stepping
up to the guillotine. But they are at home and
should get Steven Jackson back this week. The
Browns defense is garbage and the main problem
for the Rams has been protecting quarterback
Marc Bulger. The Browns only have six sacks this
season, which doesn't bode well for them as they
head on the road.
Cleveland Browns @ St. Louis Rams (+4)
NFL Free Pick: St. Louis +4
The Colts are on a short week after a physical
Monday Night tilt, while the Carolina Panthers
are off of their bye week. With a full week of
preparation, David Carr or Vinny Testaverde,
should be able to run this offense more functionally.
Even so, the Carolina Panthers have the fewest
sacks in the NFL, which doesn't project well
facing the Colts high-octane offense. Tough call
here but with the Colts on back-to-back road
games, I'd lean to the Panthers.
Indianapolis Colts @ Carolina Panthers (+7.5)
NFL Free Pick: Carolina +7.5
This is a tough spot for both teams, particularly
the Miami Dolphins, who will now be without their
top quarterback, running back or wide receiver
that they entered the season with. The Giants
offense struggled last week through the air and
even though they ran the ball well, 24 of the
team's 33 points came off of gift turnovers from
Trent Dilfer and the 49ers offense. It's worth
noting that Eli Manning looks like he might be
hitting his mid-season slump.
New York Giants @ Miami Dolphins (+10.5)
NFL Free Pick: Miami +10.5
The Philadelphia Eagles have been giving up
yards on the ground, as usual, which might not
work so well against Adrian Peterson and the
Minnesota Vikings. The bottom line is that the
Vikings don't have much confidence in Tarvaris
Jackson right now and they can't win games unless
he can, at the very least, move the chains. He
can't right now and he's got a broken finger
on his throwing hand.
Philadelphia Eagles @ Minnesota Vikings (+1)
NFL Free Pick: Philadelphia -1
Although I wouldn't take the points in this
matchup, look for the San Francisco 49ers to
have a good offensive showing. Frank Gore, along
with others, ripped the offensive play-calling
and usually the offense plays fairly well the
week after public criticism. The Saints still
aren't right, but they are gaining confidence
with back-to-back wins. Still, I wouldn't lay
points with them in any scenario right now.
New Orleans Saints @ San Francisco 49ers (+3)
NFL Free Pick:: San Francisco +3
