2006 NFL Betting Stats: 12-4 SU, 10-6 ATS, 6-10

2007 NFL Odds:
-500 to win AFC East
+250 to win AFC
+300 to win Super Bowl XLII
After reaching the
AFC Championship game against the Indianapolis
Colts – and falling just
short of winning – the Patriots went out
and made so many quality free agent acquisitions
that they may have set themselves up perfectly
to win Super Bowl XLII this upcoming season.
The 2007 New England Patriots may have more talent
on the roster than any team in the Bill Belichick
era.
Here is a look at the 2007 New
England Patriots.
Offense: The Patriots have made the transition
from aging rusher Corey Dillon to the younger
Laurence Maroney on the ground and Maroney looks
like he will be the starter in New England for
years to come.
The Patriots retooled
their receiving core in a big way this past
offseason, grabbing deep threats Randy Moss
and Donte Stallworth, but I believe their best
addition will be superb slot receiver/return
man, Wes Welker, whom the Pats added from their
division rivals, the Miami Dolphins. Tom Brady
will undoubtedly have his best cast of supporting
offensive players in his entire tenure as the
Patriots’ starting
quarterback. The sky is the limit for this unit
this season.
Defense: The Patriots
were a work in progress on defense last season
and should be better with the addition of Pro
Bowl caliber linebacker Adalius Thomas from
the Baltimore Ravens, who will allow veteran
linebacker Mike Vrabel to move back to his
more natural inside position. Though veteran
safety Rodney Harrison will miss the first four
weeks of the regular season for violating the
league’s substance abuse policy, having
cornerback Asante Samuel return to camp nearly
two weeks ago after a lengthy contract holdout,
should help shore up an improving secondary immediately.
Analysis: The only
team that may be able to stop the New England
Patriots in 2007 may be the Patriots themselves.
With a roster stacked with talent and the game’s
best head coach in Bill Belichick, the Patriots
will certainly be one of the few legitimate
contenders to win Super Bowl XLII and should
be looking at a minimum of 11 regular season
wins in 2007.
Football Betting View:
The Patriots were money in the bank last season
at 10-6 ATS and there is no reason why the
Patriots can’t duplicate
those numbers in 2007. New England may also post
better O/U numbers as well with a more explosive
offensive this season with the additions of Wes
Welker, Randy Moss and Donte Stallworth.
